Chapter Text
Being Captain America brings a lot with it. Like happy people, that their loved ones are saved. A whole country that feels like their save. Fangirls everywhere. A whole own section in a museum. But unfortunately, it also brings boring meetings, like today.
Steve isn’t a meeting person. That’s more a Tony or a Bruce thing. No even better! A Natasha thing! She knows what to say in a meeting that makes it less boring. Steve would’ve sent Natasha to this meeting, but she is on a week off. She needed some time to recover after the last mission. Now he has to listen to the hours long talk of secretary Ross. That sounds like a mosquito in Steve’s ear. Maybe needs a vacation too, to Spain or something. Maybe a vacation on Costa rica. No he doesn’t think he likes that. Being a tourist on a beach. Maybe he needs to visit a city like London or Amsterdam.
“Rogers…. Rogers….. Rogers!” The voice of Thunderbolt Ross wakes Steve from his daydreams. “Yes?” “Rogers I asked you what you think about the new rules regarding training new recruits?” “New recruits need to be trained, it doesn’t matter if they have experience in the field or not. They need a proper training from people who know what they are doing. If you’ll excuse me I have more work to do.” He get’s up from his uncomfortable office chair and walks out of the room. “That’s not what I meant” sounds Ross voice after him.
His phone buzzes in the back of his pants. A new message from Natasha. A picture of a cozy blanket on her couch. Under the picture written: “How your holding up?” He stops walking to wherever he was going to escape the meeting and calls her. It doesn’t take Natasha long to pick up the phone. “That looks like a cozy blanket you’ve got.” “It is, but that’s not why you called is it?” “You know me to well.” Steve let’s out a deep sigh “Clint called, he was worried because you were so absent.” “I maybe need a vacation too. Traveling a bit or something.” “That doesn’t sound like you. I mean the traveling does, but vacation. You are always busy even when you don’t have any work to do. What are you going to do? Sit on the couch and read a book or watch a movie?” “Maybe, that was what I was thinking about.” Natasha makes a sound of disbelief. “I know you longer than today. I don’t want my friend to sit sad on the couch all alone.” “I’m not sad.” “Not yet. You know what you need? A date!” “Nat we talked about this.” “I know we did, you think it’s difficult to find somebody with the same experience and mind set. You don’t need to have the same experience to have the same mind set. Don’t worry I’m going to fix that date for you because this can’t go on like this.” “Nat, really you don’t have to.” “too late, talk to you later.” And with that she ends the phone call leaving Steve stunned and a bit confused. Natasha can be a bit impulsive.
So does this mean he is going on date with a girl that he doesn’t know and hasn’t asked to go on a date? He’s going to need to ask Sam how he needs to handle this situation, because it became very weird, really fast.

“So…. do you have a hobby?” A blonde girl with waves in her hair sits opposites of Steve. She looks friendly. “I sport a bit, but I’m busy with work and everything so I don’t have a lot of hobbies.” Natasha told Steve that Sharon also works at S.H.I.E.L.D. so that she may have the same way of thinking Steve is looking for. “Okay, sounds like a busy life. I sport a bit myself too.” What are you doing Steve? That’s the stupidest response you can give! Sharon is clearly going to think he doesn’t have any braincells. “I’m busy with work too. Saving some cities and people.” He gives an awkward smile. “I think it’s interesting that you do a lot for S.H.I.E.L.D. You know Peggy would be proud. She always talked a lot about you.” “You knew Peggy?” Sharon nods. “She was my aunt.” Steve’s brain mechanics are turning like hell. Sharon’s aunt is Peggy, his Peggy. “I need to go, I’ll pay the bill, I promise.” He gets up from his chair and leaves some money on the table for the bill. Then he walks quickly out of the café where they were having lunch.
He walks across the sidewalk with long strides. Did Natasha know Sharon was family of Peggy? Did she know when she asked Sharon? She definitely knows that Sharon works at S.H.I.E.L.D., so why didn’t she tell him who Sharon is.
Steve, lost in his own thoughts bumps against somebody. The coffee of the man spilling over Steve and the man himself. “I am so sorry, I should’ve looked where I was walking.” Steve feels terrible, this is like the worst day ever. Could this get any worse? “No it’s alright. I wasn’t looking too.” The man’s voice is deep, but friendly. Steve looks up at the man. He has long brown hair that is pushed back into a bun and glasses on his nose. Behind his glasses are two beautiful blue eyes. But sadly, the shirt he is sporting is now white with a bit of brown from the coffee, not to mention Steve’s own shirt. “I’m sorry, I fee terrible. Can I make it up to you?” “No, it’s fine. I was on my way home, so it doesn’t matter.” “That doesn’t make it better.” Steve gives an awkward chuckle. “You know what. Here is my phone number.” He scrabbles a few numbers on a piece of paper he has in his jacket and holds it out for the man. “I will pay for a new shirt, just give me a call how much it is going to cost.” “It’s fine but okay.” The man put’s the piece of paper in his bag and gives a reassuring smile. “Have a nice day…. I think.” The man says and he walks of. Steve is standing there, on the sidewalk, really dumbfounded. What just happened? It was like a movie Natasha always watches. BUT ONLY TWO TIMES MORE TERRIBLE!

“So your date didn’t go well?” “No.” “Okay…. was she at least nice?” “She was.” “Then what was the problem?” “Did you know she is Peggy’s niece?” “She is?” Natasha has a surprised look on her face. She clearly didn’t know Peggy and Sharon are related. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know that.” Steve shrugs while he puts his dirty plate from their dinner into the dishwasher. “Don't worry, you couldn't have known.” “She never really mentioned it.”
Thursday evening means they have Chinese for dinner at the compound. It’s already late so Steve decides to take a shower and go to bed to get some sleep. It was a long a day, so it is not a bad idea to get some sleep. His date with Sharon was 4 days ago and it still is on his mind. What are the odds that you meet the niece of the girl you once liked? Steve gets out of the shower. His hair still when he lays down in bed and see a message on his phone from an unknown number.
JULY 16, 11.22 PM
Unknown: Hi, I don’t know if it matters and if you’ll like to know, but I managed to get the coffee stain out of my shirt. So don’t worry.
It’s the coffee guy! Steve’s mind needs to process the message, but is happy to hear that he didn’t ruin the shirt fully.
JULY 16, 11.24 PM
Steve: Hi, I’m glad to hear I didn’t ruin the shirt completely. Again sorry.

Steve: Well so my getting to know you skills are working :)
