Chapter Text

April came downstairs the next morning to find Leo, Kaos, and Raph all snoring peacefully on the couch. Aw… seems like they’re doing better. I better warn the others to not wake them… She went about getting ready quietly, shushing Casey and Mikey as they came downstairs.

“So that’s why Raph didn’t come to bed last night,” Mikey whispered. “We should totally take a picture for blackmail!”

“Leave them alone you two,” April hissed at them. “They all need to get more sleep anyway. You’re just jealous you weren’t invited to join.”

Mikey grumbled and pouted before heading for the kitchen. “Breakfast will be ready in a few minutes.”

“I’m headed out t’ the garage, Donnie didn’t come in last night and someone should check on ‘em,” Casey replied, lazily pushing the screen door open. “Call us when food’s on!”

April shook her head before stopping the door from slamming. Geez, Donnie needs to get some rest too…

A few minutes later, Splinter came downstairs, smiling softly at his two middle children and their friend. “It is good to see that they made up,” he commented to April while sitting at the table.

She nodded, pouring him a cup of tea. “Yeah, I was really worried there for a minute.”

“Good friends will always come around, no matter how bad the fight was. Kaos, I believe, was not mad at any of you, but rather at their inability to react to the monster in a way that did not involve my children. That and their loss of independence. They simply needed time to adjust and come to terms with what had happened,” Splinter said, sipping his tea. “It is good they are feeling better.”

Mikey paused in his stirring. “I think yesterday Leo said Casey tried talking to them about the first time the Creep showed up. Maybe that helped-” He was interrupted by Leo grunting from the living room.

“Could someone maybe bring me some pain meds..?” she asked hesitantly, careful not to walk the human or turtle sleeping next to xem.

April grabbed a cup of water, then the bottle of pills on the small side table. She handed both to Leo carefully. “Why do you need pain meds?” she asked.

Leo mumbled something, avoiding looking at her.

“Kaos convinced xem she was gaslighting herself into feelin’ better,” Raph muttered, rolling over. “Now shaddap.”

April shrugged, taking the glass back from Leo before heading back to the kitchen.
=====
By the time Mikey finished with food, Kaos and Raph had somewhat unwillingly woken up. Though Kaos was certainly making sure Leo didn’t go anywhere without support for her leg.

Donnie and Casey had also come back into the house, with the two arguing about something technically smart but also dumb. “Have a nice nap you three? Casey told me what they came down to this morning,” Donnie commented, leaning on the back of the couch.

“Very funny, Don. Don’t you have anything better to do?” Raph shot back, glaring at his older brother.

The purple-clad turtle smirked, drifting into the kitchen.

“I found a cane you can use Leo,” Mikey said, entering the living room. “Your crutch isn’t here, but maybe Raph could make you a new one, if you’d prefer that?” He leaned the cane against the couch next to Leo’s hand.

She smiled at xyr younger brother. “Thank you, Mikey. I think I’ll be okay with just the cane for now.”

Kaos turned to Raph. “Can you hand me my leg? I don’t feel like crawling to it.” The angry turtle nodded, handing the prosthetic to them. They rolled up their pants, revealing the stub. They grimaced, quickly attaching the metal contraption and then covering it again. “I’m gonna go train,” they commented, standing.

They grabbed their quiver, walking outside without even stopping to pull on a shoe.

“They’re not gonna go back to being distant again right?” Mikey asked.

Leo shook her head. “They explained it to me, the mass amounts of training. When they lost their leg, it messed up their center of balance, which can mess up their aim. So they’re practicing to gain their skill back.”

“Ooooh,” Mikey replied, heading back to the kitchen. “Well, I’m sure they’ll do great!”
=====
A few more days passed without incident, and then it was time to head back to New York.

“Five bucks says we get back to absolute chaos,” Raph joked as they finished loading their stuff into the vehicles.

Leo sighed, “Don’t say that.”

“I’m sure it’s nothing we can’t handle. Besides, Shredder’s been on the down-low for a bit since the KRAANG invasion, and we cloaked the lair,” Donnie replied.

Everyone loaded into the cars, with Kaos looking hesitant about the drive. “You sure you’ll be okay? You look really nervous,” Raph mentioned from the backseat. The pink-haired human nodded. “It’s just… how am I supposed to explain this to anyone? ‘Oh yeah, I just lost my leg while I was gone and no one knows except my friends, including the government. Oh, also I drove home from upstate’. I mean… I’ll figure it out. You two rest for a bit more.”
=====
The drive was uneventful, and New York was still in one piece when they arrived. Kaos drove back to their house while Casey took the Party Wagon back to the lair.

The night arrived soon, with everyone readjusting to being home. Leo attempted to sneak out to patrol with everyone else, but Kaos was determined to actually heal her leg.

“But Kaos, we should be out there helping the guys!” xe protested.

They shook their head. “Calm down. You need to actually rest, and Raph knows to call us if anything happens. So relax. Do you wanna watch Space Heroes?”

Leo sighed, giving in. “Sure. Let’s watch Space Heroes…”
