Eddies POV
After the basketball incident, I realized how badly I treated Buck. Of course, he would feel replaced if the only time I asked him if he was free was to ask him to babysit my son, so we talked about it and everything went normal again. At least I thought.
So I decided to invite Buck to our usual dates, where we drink beer and talk about nothing in my apartment. Chris was going to be in a sleepover, and Marisol probably would be… in her house, so I was going to be home alone. But when I called him and he told me he had plans, I called Marisol to ask her to go to dinner, maybe Buck and I weren’t the team we were one time; maybe we got grown up, and we’re going different ways.
So when I heard that laugh in the Italian restaurant that I recommended to Tommy, it surprised me.
- “Eddie!” Says Tommy while I get closer to their table
- “Buck!” I said, and it sounded loud. I can’t believe it. Why did I yell it? But I continued, "You two are here together,” I said, looking at a speechless Buck with the facial expression he does when he’s caught eating Bobby’s food before lunchtime.
- “Yeah, after we talked properly, I promised to teach him how the helicopters work, so we were on that, and then it was dinner time, so here we are; what about you? Romantic date, isn't it?" Tommy says to my nonverbal question
- “Yes, Chris is in a sleepover, so we wanted to eat outside,” I said, noticing Buck's uncommon quietness. I really wanted to sit, but I couldn’t do that to my girlfriend, and Buck could also enjoy himself with another man, couldn't he?
- “We’ll sit in another place; enjoy your dinner!” Marisol says like he was reading my mind, and then I heard the first word Buck says
- “Oh sure, see you, Eddie”
I don’t know if it was destiny, but if it was I’m becoming an astrology nerd or something. The only available table was just in front of Buck and Tommy. It's not like I desired to see every move they made; it’s just we don’t know Tommy at all. I like him and everything, but we’re talking about Buck, he’s like a brother to me.
- “Eddie? Are you listening to me?” Says Marisol, taking me out of my thoughts. “What are you ordering? I’m feeling like eating pasta”
- “Yeah sure, I’m sorry I was distracted. I think pasta is great.” I said while looking at her, she looked stunning today, but my only instinct was to look to the table of Buck, so my only thought as a way of distraction was: seduction. “You look gorgeous today,” I said, getting near her face, admiring her natural makeup, and kissing her neck. I also noticed how Buck was looking at them, which made me kiss her harder.
Thank god, the waiter came to interrupt this awkward scene.
We ordered and chatted about Marisol's family; she mentioned she had a nephew who is two years younger than Chris and that one day they should meet, which I found cute, but I cannot commit anything to her; I’m not stable romantically talking. My thinking was interrupted when I saw Buck coming to our table.
- “Hi Eddie, Marisol. I came to say goodbye, we’re going”
- “Oh, and Tommy left already?
- “No, he went to search the car; he told me to remind you that you owe him a story time about you winning a silver star” Says Buck
- “Oh god, it’s a shame, but I have to ghost him, he was a good person” I said ironically, and I added, “Don’t you want to stay with us? I can leave you at your place later”
- “No, enjoy while you can, we have a 24-hour shift so you should get every moment with your girl before that” Says Buck laughing “Well, see you two!” he adds leaving immediately the place. And while I returned to Marisol, I saw that Buck had left his jacket in his chair
- “Buck leave his jacket, I will get it to him, be right back”
- “Okay, hurry up” Says Marisol, probably annoyed, but I ignore it.
I took Buck's jacket, and I went outside. When I found him, I was just one step away from screaming his name and running to where he was, but then I saw how Tommy grabbed his face and started kissing him, kissing with the tongue and everything, and when they stopped, I saw a smile appearing from Buck's mouth, next thing they were inside in the car, and I hid before any of them could see me.
