Pocket Monsters!

Chapter 3: The calm before the storm.

Notes:

Disclaimer.
For those who find it weird to see an Ash not dense toward women, in OS, he wasn't dense, so he is a lot in character; I chose to blend also elements from the Novel Pocket Monster: the Animation from Takeshi Shudo the original head writer and creator of the anime. Shudo's original idea of the Pokémon world was dark, almost on par in a certain sense with the manga adventures.
Don't expect me to do reactions to SM or JN since both are terrible series, and I won't show anything from them.

This world is also fairly dark; people have flaws and all; it's a world that justifies Cyrus and Lysandre's views. Pokémon can also be evil at times, depending on their individual personalities; for example, Pikachu in OS wasn't the best Pokémon at the beginning, as shown in Scent Station, meaning I'm also expanding some canon material. There is already a build-up, as noticed in the first chapter.

Also, because this world is different from SM and JN, Lusamine is a bit more like her game counterpart, but not much. She isn't like her anime counterpart, but she isn't to the level of madness she was in Sun Moon yet.
Also, May was not really interested in Pokèmon at first so Norman would have likely avoided sending her on a journey, and Johanna would have avoided sending Dawn on a journey with how she could be.

I'm also going with how, in the anime, fire is super effective against water in OS. And there is an answer for it since water doesn't extinguish fire. It either feeds it, leaves it unaffected, or quenches it depending on what fuel it uses to burn. This means that unless a water move is used on species-specific fire types or a specific water type move it's used, fire types are actually super effective on water types and could be unaffected by their moves, maybe even become stronger from it. Chilling Water is probably the one water type move to really damage fire types a lot. Also, Rowan and Sycamore refer to Pokémon Evolution as metamorphosis because it's more accurate, and both consider the concept of evolution rather foolish, especially Sycamore, based on how much they researched the subjects.

Don't expect many elements of Pokémon Chronicles either because it can be a lot contradicting. Yet expect characters to appear and it being reworked from it and so on.

Also I chose to characterize Brock and Misty like this, because honestly they don't act like good friends to Ash in OS most of the time, doesn't mean that they are bad people, just that I want to actually develop their dynamic to show both the good and the bad from each others, especially the bad since I think that both of them did a disservice to Ash career back then, especially with how they pushed Ash to think Primeape would have never obeyed him and so on causing him to effectively being scammed out of his Pokémon, even tho in the entire episode the opposite is shown. And without considering that in the Original Dub they are indeed mean compared to the US adaptation that turned Ash like the classic Bratty american kid instead of how he originally was.

I suggest reading Midnight in Lumiouse for a better representation of Ash personality, as I tried to at least keep him a bit more snarky. Just for the purpose of this beginning chapters, but I'll likely showcase the more original personality later on, because up until now Ash it's mostly thrown off by the situation making him act a bit more fiesty then normal.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

[June 1997 5 Minutes before the Vision.]

The scientific departments in the entire world was left struck by the rather... Quirky term that were given by Lear, but nonetheless took notes of everything.

"Ultra worlds... Then Ultra what? Ultra wilds? Why does it feel like whoever named them was a fan of those cringe media like Power Ranger or something?" Muttered a scientist. Meanwhile back at the Æther Foundation Lusamine sneezed.

In Unova a man in his office at Nimbasa city was frowning.

"My foresight didn't show me this... It seems my connection with the Time Vortex is diminishing more then anticipated..."

"This might help with finding one sooner, rather then wait for the one in Crown City to reopen.

The director of the International Police was not happy about this. They had kept tight and under warp from the public this discovery in order to keep the Fallers contained and under constant watch with little freedom and as baits for all the UB that came into their world.

'Now we'll have to be careful with the G-Man great... He won't be happy about this...'

In Alola a man in a police station ignored the screen entirely as he looked at an E-mail from a man he thought he would not hear from anymore.

"Giovanni... Well let's see how long you can keep your gig up as a Gym Leader, damn my position as Kahuna could be jeopardized, but honestly who cares never asked for this to begin with." The man muttered while petting a dark furred long cat similar to a Persian that seemed a bit chubby, while he was surrounded by cats pokemon like Meowth but durk furred.

[Kanto sea: Cerise Island; G-man HQ.]

[Cerise Island is a Location exclusive to the Manga adventures, I decided to turn it into the G-man Headquarters.]

Lance Elite Four of the Indigo League and a member of the G-Man a secret service made of volunteers strong pokemon trainers was frowning as he looked at the various reports from his colleagues on the screens origins inside the office of the current head of the G-Man, and also some disturbing information.

"What exactly do you mean with, this is not a new phenomenon?" The Dragon Master asked rather disturbed by this toward one of their members which looked second away from Fire Blasting someone alive.

"I mean exactly that. There have been some rumors in Psych Wards of trainers who ended up seeing some kind of holes in the sky like an episode from a few months ago, this person described a Pokemon that doesn't appear in even a single Pokedex, he kept shouting he wasn't crazy while he was being dragged away by an agent Jenny, this led me to research it, and I ended up on a website where an user that was into conspiracy that disappeared a few years ago, the posts mentioned how there was some kind of secrets squad in white that appeared one day in the outskirts of his hometown to capture a strange unsettling creature, whoever this was ended up remaining silent for years after his friend mysteriously vanished due to speaking with the mayor about it, apparently he discovered that in alola there are legends about strange holes in the sky by which strange creatures appear in particular 2 that are called the devourer of the sun and moon Solgaleo and Lunala. The user insisted that episodes like this occurred in the past of every region, but the government hid them away, and that got me thinking about the events that occurred this century the Wars happening between Kalos Galar and those other regions and the ones we got involved even against the Ranger Regions, when Unova went ans nuked us when our old feudal regime was striving to conquer and went after Alola... Some soldiers reported strange episodes that were chulked up by the government as Traumatic episodes of Insanity due to the brutality of was, and in here it was chulked up to the side effects of the VBombs Unova unleaded on our land giving people allucinations due to the heavy radiation." Lance bit his finger at the story and the present members frowned, those episodes over time became less and less told due to the passing away of the older generation that lived in those ages of conflicts, but now they wondered how much of it was natural or an enormous psyops.

"I do remember of that researcher from Sinnoh Professor Newton and his assistant, they were researching the myth of the Distortion World and story of the holes in the sky from when Sinnoh was still known as Hisui a couple centuries ago and the so called fourth lake until both disappeared two years ago..." Said another of the G-man, only making the presents more uncomfortable...

"It's not just that, old documents in the past centuries do speak of strange creatures popping out from strange holes in the sky even people, but apparently they have been labelled as either myths or something else by modern historians and whenever someone stray from this estabilished version of history they are either discredited to the point of ruining their careers or perhaps even vanishing if we consider some kind of human organization in white it's involved and someone where to find something that could threaten the information to leak to the public or something that could be used as a weapen like ancient pokelantic and pokemopolitan technology if not even Azoth artifacts... Now with all this?" Asked another member rather disturbed.

"This is unethical and illegal in so many levels directly breaking every moral code and law in every Region, if this really the work of our governments what does that make this? Who can we trust? The Jenny clan it's compromised, and how about the Joy clan? And the worst part? It's that we cannot do anything about it, because of how much stretched thin we are between Team Rocket and those two organizations in Hoenn! If we let go of the pressure we're applying to them then whatever they are plotting will only escalate." A member shouted while punching the wall, which was a big mistake since he broke his knuckles doing so...

Lance was having an headache and didn't know whatever Lear action was a curse disguised as a blessing, or a blessing disguised as a curse.

"For the moment we need to try and see if we can get some of those people in the psych wards to join us and begin both their training and their recovery from having been put into solitary confinement... And also keep an eye out on any law enforcing institute we interact with, we are in a dangerous situation." Said Another man that up until now was silent but looked disappointed.

"Director Shudō we are already stretched thin if we shift our focuses like this Team Rocket, Magma and Aqua could grew bolder in their schemes without us holding them back..." Said Lance not thrilled at the idea, making the man sigh.

"I know Lance, but we do not know the full scope of just how deep this all goes and think about it, Team Rocket in recent years has changed. It is now moving differently as an organization indicating the change in leadership, they move differently, and have become a lot more dangerous since the day you joined, they likely are seeing this broadcast to and likely are already scheming how to move for this, and since this broadcast it's worldwide Team Magma and Aqua might be watching it too, we do not know exactly how this would affect them either. And what about the Criminal Underworld? How badly could it turn? Team Rocket, Magma and Aqua aren't the only criminal organization, what about the Crime Syndacates in control of Orre? How about the rumors of people in strange astronaut vests in Sinnoh? How about the various secret services of the various regions? We both Know how the one in Unova it's rather shifty and clearly behind the assassination of Unova President 3 decades ago. If this issue it's global then ironically letting off on our main targets might lead them into a false sense of security in movement, especially if their interest it's picked by the Ultra Worlds, we keep eyes on them, but shift strategy in order to be ready in case someone is silently building an army of unknown Pokémon-like creatures to use in a war for conquest."

The members couldn't do anything but shake in silent anger.

"Very well, but I can't leave neither Kanto nor Johto at the moment. Goodshow wants me closer to the League HQ because of this screens, and I also want to keep my eyes on Giovanni, I don't trust that man." Lance stated, Giovanni just irked him wrong, he was a business man and a powerful one at that, and he had heard some concerning rumors, this if anything is an occasion for keeping tabs on the man.

And so the group with various nods began to plot their next move somehow feeling only more tired with each passing moments...

'In only a couple of minutes of researching the matter after hearing the term used by Lear and we already have found so many things... He truly opened the Ghimmighoul chest with his action... this is not good for my Health...' Shudō thought while sighing to himself feeling his body weakening...

'I need something strong tonight...'

[Kanto: Vermillion city outskirts.]

"Say, guys, what do you think will we see?" Asked a young man with shoulder-length periwinkle hair, a single fringe sprouting from the center, and green eyes.

"I don't know, James. I'm more annoyed that there was that huge heist to do at the St. Anne, and this Lear guy interrupted it with his over-the-top TV Show nonsense, which made all the preparation for it useless. It would have been the perfect occasion to finally get back on the twerp for humiliating us by stealing Pikachu with help from the rest of the grunts!" A young woman with long, dark pink hair said.

"At least we might have had a chance to get back up with the boss's grace; ever since we entered this losing streak with the twerp, we went from top agents to the jokes of the organization, Miao." Said their companion, the human talking Pokémon Meowth, who deflated, thinking about their thwarted reputation after their constant failures. The mention of their reputation being ruined also caused the other two to deflate and sigh in melancholy.

"Feels like we became the comic relief on one of those boring cheap TV Shows that air on Saffron TV, one which is funny the first time and just straight up annoying when used in succession..." Lamented Jessie.

"Well, at least we aren't from a show where the characters are given a different backstory every five episodes." James concluded.

"And where the MC is made eternally 10, and its personality is changed every time to the point of being Out Of Character..." Added the talking Meowth, then the three shivered in disgust thinking about such a show while Jessie muttered about lousy writers who needed to return to school...

[Kalos: Lysandre Laboratories.]

"Director, this is more than problematic. This is going to be a heavy hit for us. Locating sites related to the I.E. Phenomenon is already a desperate challenge, and that's without taking into account our efforts in researching X, Y and Z and finding Azoth artifact created by the King, this could cause our cover to be at risk!" A chubby red-haired man, wearing a white lab coat in stark contrast to his fiery hair, spoke with a sense of urgency. His eyes locked with a pale man of muscular build, with blue eyes and a pointed, red beard that was sitting on a Sofa with a small quadrupedal Leonine Pokemon resting on his lap.

"I know Xerosic, but the situation isn't as dire as you fear yet. We will simply relocate everything that could compromise us to a different location and create a shell organization controlled by a few of ours willing to put themselves at risk and sacrifice their lives for the cause... We will need to haste the development of the holovox and our own encryption so that we can keep archived what we discovered until now and any other new information this shell group will gather for us. If anything this will greatly aid us in forwarding our technologycal advancement by delegating the rest to the other group." the man said as he looked at some e-mails on his P★DA with a frown on his face. Sure the situation might be a danger especially if another Lysandre appears and might cause the reflector falling on him if Lears decides to blow his cover up. He'll need to be careful of what he'll do and say if that was the case.

The P★DA is a device introduced in Pokémon Colosseum with various functions, like sending and receiving e-mail, etc.

[Vaniville Town]

"I don't like this Lear guy." Commented a gorgeous woman; her honey-blonded daughter rubbed her nose, glaring at a small bird Pokémon who seemed almost proud.

"And I don't like it when someone wakes me up with a peck, but I must suffer through it every time..." The woman chuckled nervously at her daughter's comment.

"Well, perhaps if you started to wake up at a decent hour, it would happen less; after all, we can't lax on your training for Ryhorn racing." The honey-blonde girl gritted her teeth. She didn't even know what she wanted to do in life and didn't even like Ryhorn racing either. Yet it was pointless talking her mother out of it, since she was always hard headed and never listened.

[Lumiouse City]

A gorgeous young teen close to adulthood was having her breakfast with her partner a Kirlia, because of her fame, she was wearing a disguise as she looked at the screen somewhat apprehensively; she knew what fame entitled to and sent her prayers to whoever was shown that could live in their world, on a plus note this definitely would grant her back some nice free time from her busy schedules, until Lear does something to change it, Kirlia sent a dirty glare at the screen worried for her trainer safety.

'I wander if we could see something useful for battles...' The young teen thought.

[Unova: unknown location.]

In a room filled with games, a boy looked at the screen, wondering what it meant. Unhappy with the fact Pokémon were used, he decided he didn't like Lear much; with him, slightly older girls looked at the screen as well with similar emotions.

Meanwhile in another room a man named Getchis was slightly shaking with barely suppressed anger. He was a man of strategy. He liked to play things safely until his plot was fulfilled. He wouldn't seek conflict or put anything into motion. But these screens could be troublesome. Team Plasma, his creation, was built on ideals and truths, tools for him to use. He knows many are by his side, but he also knows there are more in sympathy with his prized tool, that abomination he is forced to call his son for his plan to work. So, he did what was logical and started working on a backup. He hated this situation it suddenly felt like his control of the situation was slipping.

Meanwhile, In a village, a dark-skinned girl and a chubby mole-like Pokémon were staring and vibrating at the floating screen.

[Sinnoh: Galactic HQ.]

Cyrus knew that remaining a public figure from now on would become problematic, yet he saw this as more of an opportunity than anything else.

"Cyrus, what should we do?"

"We observe Saturn. The situation is less dire than it seems. This will be a perfect cover for us to act undisturbed." The man monotonously stated causing his subordinate to relax.

[Twinleaf Town]

"Mom, do You think we will also see Pokémon contests?" Asked a young girl with steel blue eyes and long navy blue hair to her mother, a fairly attractive woman who shares her daughter's hair color, sweated a bit.

"Well, Dawn, I don't know, but I think this is the last of our worrying..." She said, and her two Pokémon, an Umbreon, and a Glameow, agreed, disliking the invasion of privacy.

[Hoenn: Petalburg City]

The Marple family was having dinner. Norman, the Gym Leader, stared apprehensively at the screen. His daughter was chatting and fantasizing about what worlds would be shown, while his youngest son was theorizing what the Masters League was and what trainers would be shown. Norman just hoped it wouldn't be anything that could bring danger to their family.

[Galar: Wyndon, Rose Tower.]

Rose couldn't help but be excited. Even if His plan could be potentially at risk, he wasn't bothered by the situation; he was a businessman, no one could directly tie him to anything, he had no fault for what the other him would do, and he would act innocent all the time to take away everything that can compromise him. He will never end up in prison. The Young man he was endorsing to become Champion, Leon, was becoming a force to be reckoned with and was now training somewhere in the Isles of Armor. Since his endorsement, he was slowly turning into the undefeated champion he was molding the young man to be. There was still time before his move could be made, years even, and Leon wasn't yet ready to face the Darkest day. But whatever happens, Rose will be prepared, so he quickly calls his secretary, a slender, beautiful woman.

"President Rose."

"Oleana, Tell the members of the Macro Cosmos to change the DD containment unit location to the Crown Tundra together with everything that could compromise us."

"Yes, president." The woman answered with a bow and left Rose to his musing.

Meanwhile, Leon was shivering in the cold. His Pokémon, a Charizard, looked done with life, as instead of being in the Isles of Armor, they somehow ended up in the Crown Tundra. He loved his trainer, but damn, he had a sense of orientation worse than a Spinda!

"HOW DID YOU EVEN GET INTO THE CROWN TUNDRA BY FOOT!?!?" An old man scolded the young Teen. Corviknight was equally as shocked as his trainer as he stared at the Charizard with questions.

"I DON'T KNOW MASTER SORRY!" The teen said in near tears at his absurdly bad sense of direction.

"Just have your Charizard hold this rope, and let's fly back to the dojo... I was warned of your terrible sense of direction, but damn it, this is on a new level..." The man said sighing as the teen just sunk at that, but Mustard was already trying to figure out how to use it to ensure his new protegee completed the trial. Unfortunately the small group didn't notice that when a strong guts of wind and snow arose that Charizard somehow lost the rope and vanished inside of a ring while a small Pokemon was cackling hanging on another ring. Leon blinked, Charizard blinked... And a Rayquaza blinked too...

"... Please Rayquaza don't hurt us..."

Leon and Charizard screamed while flying away as the angry legendary attacked them for invading his territory... Mustard meanwhile kept going his road completely unaware of the event...

[Nippon Union League Headquarters]

Charles Goodshow was, in all honesty, afraid. He was the president of the National Nippon League. However, this event didn't sit well with him. The paperwork behind it was immense, and he feared it would be worse from now on. Especially since Lear didn't give them any warning or choice, he just dropped everything on them and caused a panic and big stir... But from all of this something positive could come out of...

"Well if anything this will help me move to fix this mess with the Indigo Conference and so on... Maybe I could finally look into a joint program with the Pokémon Activities Committee and push for better regulation for Pokémon Trainers, that report of that Damian kid was fairly disturbing especially since Starters of that calibers can only be given by league officials... But I have to do this carefully I don't know who I can trust in here..."  Suddenly his phone rang and somehow the elder man looked even older after hearing it.

"Charles Goodshow here yes, be fast."

"President Goodshow, excuse me, but we have received reports from the Waterflowers of the renowned members of Team Rocket Jessie, James and the talking Meowth destroying their gym. We also are receiving requests from Acapulco to help deal with some Wild Tentacools and Tentacruels attacking their construction site at Hubert Port."

"Again!? First the Pokemon Center in Viridian City now this? Go send a team to evaluate the situation in Cerulean City."

"And the Wild Pokemon in Hubert Port? Should we send Prima?"

"No she is too busy in the Orange Archipelago at the moment, I'll have someone looking into it. Give me some time Lear has caused quite the chaos."

"Of course president Goodshow!"

So as the call ended Goodshow took a deep breath and began to send some E-mails everywhere especially the Ranger Union, hopefully his old friends from there will help, after all Rangers have always been treated badly in Kanto and Johto because of their ways.

[Kanto: Vermillion City]

Ash had taken out his other Pokémon, deciding to sit with them to watch the screen with great interest. Butterfree took the spot on top of his head. Pidgeotto was beside him as Squirtle Charmander and Bulbasaur cuddled close to their trainer. Pikachu had taken a spot close to them; he was vibrating. Misty, for as nervous as she was, felt excited at the prospect as well. Brock wondered about what this all could lead to for their journey.

Notes:

For a timeline of events planned in this world that remains similar to Ash's anime journey.
1998: Ash participates in the Indigo Conference and the Orange League
1999: Ash participates in the Whirl Cup, the Silver Conference in Johto, and the Ever Grade Conference in Hoenn.
2000: Ash challenges the battle frontier
2001: Ash participates in the Lily of the Valley conference.
This is a general timeline of all planned to still take hold as similar as possible to Canon chronologically speaking. However, each of these events will have differences because the viewing alters them in some ways, the so-called butterfly effect, or in this case, the Butterfree or Beautyfly or Vivillion effect. Also, I'll try to see how to implement Pokèmon Chronicles characters and create entire chapters revolving around them; this story is also mostly an exercise for me and I'm also dealing with a nasty Illness that it's giving me a lot of physical complications, so expect irregular updates.

Notes:

I renamed the story to simply Pocket Monster and updated the notes at the beginning.
Lear isn't broadcasting only in this world; to remind the readers that other reaction fictions are coming in different series of the anime aside from SM and JN since they suck because I want every anime series to also feel like their own worlds in the reactions with how different with each other they are. The exception is OS, which features three regions; because of this, I will set only two reaction fiction stories for this era, this one and another. Also, the reactions aren't going to be featured in every chapter because I want to focus on the consequences of certain things being revealed and create arcs regarding them.
