Katsuki sighed, he was curled up on his old bed. The school had allowed them to visit their homes for the new years and everyone took the opportunity. Those who lived too far spent their single week at the dorms and celebrating themselves.
Katsuki had the poor plessure of getting to spend his time in his home. Or, what was left of it because ever since he moved out and into the dorms he hasn't exactly spoken to his mom. Just his dad, and he says that his mom is doing a lot better than usual.
Katsuki didn't know if that's sarcasm or the truth.
So when he came home and his mom didn't even yell at him, he ran to his old room and texted Izuku- because what the hell!
So after an hour of waiting, Katsuki's phone rang and he answered it.
'You said it was urgent? What happened? Is there yelling again? Do you need to stay at my house this week?' Katsuki ignored the small warmth that bloomed when he realized Izuku cared for him a lot.
"Shut it nerd, let me rant... please." The line went silent and Izuku gave Katsuki the go ahead to rant. So he did.
"I mean, my mom's been crazy and hard headed for so long I don't know what to do with her being so calm and not-yelling. I got home and she didn't even yell at me... like- I'm not going crazy, right nerd?"
They ended up talking to each other for the next few hours. It was mainly Katsuki ranting about how he doesn't understand how to interact with his mom without yelling or a fight. Without the violence or the hitting.
The next morning came and Katsuki rubbed his eyes. He stayed up later than usual with Izuku, but he didn't care because the nerd had allowed him to rant and in the few moments he was vulnerable, helped him out with directing his anger the right direction.
"Damn nerd can be useful," He spoke to himself as he got up and stretched out his sore limbs.
Breakfast was silent for the first time Katsuki could ever remember.
Katsuki watched as his mom gathered the plates and stood, he decided to speak right then and there.
"Is everything okay...?" He sounded hesitant, and he hated how the late night talk still seemed to have a hold on him.
His mom didn't turn to look at him, "Yeah, no need to worry about any yelling this week," Then his mom simply walked off and Katsuki frowned. His dad stood up and followed his mom into the kitchen, the sound of dishes being washed echoed and Katsuki blinked before he stood up and went into the kitchen.
"Mom?" That got her attention because she turned and Katsuki noticed her red eyes weren't narrowed or furious, she looked calm and that threw him off. He felt anger boil up and he gritted his teeth, balling his hands into fists and feeling sweat collect. "Why are you- where's the yelling!" His dad was wide eyed when Katsuki seemed to snap. And his mom only stared at him. Stared! What was he suppose to do? Be angry for her?
"You're always yelling at me or slapping me, where is that now? What changed!?" His dad was still wide eyed, his hands reaching out and gently holding Mitsuki's shoulders as she fully turned and faced Katsuki.
"Kid-"
"And now you're calling me kid!? I leave and all of a sudden you're all healed and healthy, without me are you happier?! Happier knowing the school gets to struggle with me rather than yourself!" There was a tense silence.
Then-
There was a muffled sniffle and Katsuki felt his body tense, his eyes widened and his jaw unclenched.
Both blonds realized who was crying and they went into a sudden panic.
"Oh no sweety, hey, it's okay," Mitsuki hugged Masaru.
Katsuki stared for a single second before he grumbled and wrapped his own arms around his dad, his hands reaching his mom.
He held on, burying his face in his dad's shoulder as his mom buried her face in Masaru's brown hair.
"Oh! Hah, I'm okay, swear. It's just- its the first time I've ever seen the two of you have a decent conversation."
Katsuki suddenly realized something...
"Let's go to therapy. Together. As a family." Katsuki said loud enough to where they all heard it.
"The damn nerd suggested it last night..."
Another silence- then,
"Yeah... I did hear you mention family therapy last night when I was going to go up and talk to you."
"That's creepy."
They all collectively laughed and Katsuki, for the first time, realized this is their first ever group hug without yelling.
Maybe... maybe they can still heal.
