Chapter Text
A few hours had passed, and Sam and Dean had loaded up Baby and headed for the case. The two climbed in the car, Cas following and entering the back seat. Getting comfortable, the trio headed toward the Forest Park case.
“So, Sammy. Try to avoid using your powers on the case… unless we need it or something,” Dean explained.
“Yes, that would be good,” Cas said, his voice had returned to its previous gruffness. Sam gave a thumbs up and the ride continued.
……
The trio arrived at their crappy motel room in what was silence for them. Loud music, but no conversations to pass the time. Cas was the first to remove himself, walking towards their room, the air was brisk and chilly. Mid-November, no snow yet, but the forecast was saying that there might be some soon.
The motel was no different from the many others the trio had stayed in over the years, with two beds, a couch, a table, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. The only interesting factor was that a shocking amount of the furniture had flowers on them. Either embroidered, painted, or printed, almost every surface had a flower on it. Red and burgundy roses, whitish hydrangeas, sedums, and cosmos were the ones Castiel had immediately recognized.
Dean flopped dramatically onto one of the beds. He bounced for a bit, testing something, but who knows with Dean. Sam eyed him disappointedly for a moment before checking the other bed for bedbugs. After he had determined the bed to be safe, he too flopped onto it. Castiel sat on the couch. Not a very comfortable couch, but he didn’t sleep anyway. Not usually. Okay, sometimes he liked to close his eyes for a bit and lay down, but he didn’t need sleep.
Sam settled at the table, cracking open his computer to continue his googling. He later showed Dean the screen.
“Dean, it says here that the family is holding a memorial tomorrow. Kinda like an open house sort of deal. Anyone’s welcome. It’s open pretty much all day.”
“Perfect,” Dean responded.
“Isn’t that a bit too convenient?” Castiel asked, usually there were a lot more steps, and to him, this was suspiciously easy.
“Lighten up, it’s nice when everything is laid out like this.”
“If you’re sure, Sam.”
“Positive.”
……
The memorial opened at 8 am, closing from noon til 2 for the family to get lunch, then opening up again until 8 pm. The bulk of people came in the morning, the earlier the better. The trio decided to show up after lunch, which they had at The Junction Diner, a place where they served your food in little train cars on a track if you were seated at the bar area. It was there that they discussed the action plan for the case.
The little train arrived carrying their orders. A salad and a burger in little trays on their own little cars of the train. The woman behind the counter handed Cas his shake before getting back to her other customers. Some of the little kids were playing with the toys by the windows. Older kids begged their parents for quarters for the huge gumball machine or the arcade games in the back.
“So,” Dean said while trying to ignore the rampant children, “what should we ask the family?”
“The usual, smelling sulfur, random hex bags, chills, you know the drill,” Sam took a bite of his salad. It was absolutely drowning in kale.
“You want a salad with all that kale?” Dean said jokingly before munching on his bacon burger. Sam, annoyed, rolled his eyes at him.
“Odd details maybe?” Castiel asked after sipping his chocolate shake, one of the few foods, or rather drinks, that he quite liked. He also likes mocha lattes, but that’s not really important right now.
“Yeah, exactly. Thanks, Cas,” Dean said, finishing his burger shortly after, “Now that's a good burger. Delicious even. How’s your plate o’ kale?”
“Delicious, thanks,” Sam said coldly. Castiel just sipped his shake.
“Sam, how ‘bout you check out the library while me ‘n Cas check out the memorial?”
“Sounds good.”
