Chapter Text

Silver doesn’t really hate rain. The cool air it brings can be pleasant at times.

What irks him is that it rains while they’re flying.

These are the times when Silver comes to despise just how much water Hoenn has, which leaves the routes flooded and unsafe to land. The mist whipped up by the rain makes it even harder to find civilization. Their only option now is a small cave on the side of Mt Pyre.

The moment they entered, Silver lets out a sigh of relief that echoes through the cave. They both are soaking wet and exhausted from trying to navigate in the bad weather. Lyra is having it worse than him, eyes scrunched closed and shaking like a leaf.

“We’re safe, you can open your eyes now.” He turns to the poor brunette who is still clinging to Silver’s wet mane like a lifeline.

“O-Okay Sil, just… l-lemme just, uh…” Lyra clambers around, trying to not slip off of his scaly hide. By the time her feet touches the ground, her knees are seconds away from collapsing.

With his fiery breath, Silver makes a campfire and provides some warmth from the ever-falling rain. Meanwhile, Lyra fishes out a spare set of kimono. However, she appears fidgety and bashful as the lack of space worries her. The redhead is quick to catch on though.

“I’ll just…look away. Hurry it up already.” Silver curls himself around the fire, giving Lyra some extra space. He even closes his eyes for good measure.

Lyra blushes profusely as she tries to get the sopping wet clothes off her body. This is so embarrassing, changing in front of Silver like this. He’s not a human being, but he’s still a man! She hastens her movements in hopes of finishing up before embarrassment overcomes her.

Once she’s finally done, decked in a fresh new kimono and no pigtails in sight (and a very visible blush), Lyra sits by the campfire with her friend. She leans on his side, which he takes as a cue to remain in his dragon form. Silence stretches between the duo as they watch the ongoing downpour. Silver is not much of a talker, but it’s not everyday seeing Lyra so quiet. Must’ve been the weather wearing her down.

It is long past their bedtime, evident by the occasional yawns from the brunette. The steady ambience of the rain combined with the soft warmth within the small cave only serves to lull Lyra to sleep even easier. Once the absentminded tracing of patterns on his horns has stopped, Silver knows that his friend has surrendered herself to slumber.

“Already huh?” He playfully nudges Lyra with his muzzle, her response is to sleepily push it away with a mumble.

Despite his rough exterior and even rougher attitude, Silver is not immune to the “staying still because there’s something cute and small leaning on you” phenomenon. But even if he does move, Lyra won’t even mind considering how much of a heavy sleeper she is. Adorable, he must admit.

The air begins to cool around them, courtesy of the increased moisture from the rain. Not too cold for Silver, but a little much for the tiny brunette as she shivers in her sleep. He lets out another fiery exhale to strengthen the flame, yet Lyra’s shivers continued. Now worried, he tucks her in with one of his wings. Thanks to the extra blanket that is his wing, her body finally calms down as she snuggles into it.

This brings back memories of their first meeting, when Lyra found Silver tangled in barbed wires. She has treated his wounds throughout their time together, and when she was worn out from the day, Silver would allow Lyra the luxury of sleeping underneath his wings. Just like right now.

It feels…really nice, to have someone trust him enough to sleep so peacefully within his vicinity.

The downpour outside has softened to a drizzle. It is enough or them to start moving again, but Silver doesn’t bother. He is too warm to even think about moving, more importantly, he doesn’t want to wake Lyra. Getting stuck in a cave overnight isn’t how Silver expected his visit to Hoenn would be, but not like any of them minded.
