Chapter Text
A few months later in the weeks leading up to El Clásico were filled with intense anticipation and preparation. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid had been performing well in their respective leagues, each team determined to outdo the other. For Gavi and Pedri, the upcoming match held a deeper significance. It was not just a clash of two football giants; it was a personal battleground where their friendship and rivalry would play out on the grandest stage.
Gavi spent his days at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, Barcelona's training facility. The sessions were grueling, designed to push the players to their limits. Coach Xavi Hernandez emphasized the importance of teamwork, precision, and maintaining focus. Gavi, known for his relentless energy and tenacity, trained with an intensity that inspired his teammates. He was driven not only by the desire to win but also by the anticipation of facing Pedri.
Late at night, after the day's training, Gavi would find himself alone in his apartment, his thoughts often drifting to Pedri. Their late-night conversations had become a ritual, a way to stay connected despite the distance. They spoke about everything – their training, the pressure, their hopes for the upcoming match. Despite the rivalry, there was an underlying camaraderie that neither could deny.
Meanwhile, in Madrid, Pedri was equally focused. Real Madrid's training sessions at Ciudad Real Madrid were just as intense, with Coach Carlo Ancelotti pushing the team to perfect their tactics and strategies. Pedri, with his exceptional vision and skill, was a central figure in these preparations. He felt the weight of the upcoming match but also the excitement of facing Gavi, his closest friend.
As the days passed, the media frenzy surrounding El Clásico grew. Headlines speculated about the outcome, highlighting the matchup between Gavi and Pedri. Fans from both sides eagerly anticipated the showdown, their expectations adding to the already mounting pressure. Despite this, both players remained focused, channelling their energy into their training.
Three days before the match, Gavi received a message from Pedri: "You ready for this?"
Gavi smiled, typing back quickly, "More than ever. Can't wait to see you on the pitch."
Their banter was light-hearted, but underneath, both knew the significance of what was coming. They had faced each other in training countless times, but this was different. This was El Clásico.
The night before the match, Barcelona's team gathered for a final strategy session. Xavi outlined the game plan, emphasizing key areas where they could exploit Madrid's weaknesses. Gavi listened intently, visualizing every move, every pass. He knew that tomorrow would be a test of everything they had trained for.
In Madrid, Ancelotti was doing the same, going over tactics with his players. Pedri sat quietly, absorbing every word. He felt a mix of nerves and excitement. The thought of playing against Gavi in such a high-stakes match was both thrilling and daunting.
On the morning of the match, Gavi woke up early. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a soft light over the city. He took a deep breath, trying to calm the flutter of nerves in his stomach. After a light breakfast, he headed to the team bus, joining his teammates as they made their way to Camp Nou.
As the bus approached the stadium, Gavi felt a surge of adrenaline. The streets were lined with fans, their cheers and chants creating an electric atmosphere. He could see the determination on his teammates' faces, each one ready to give their all.
In the Madrid camp, Pedri was experiencing the same rush of emotions. The journey to Barcelona had been filled with a tense excitement. As they neared the stadium, he glanced at his teammates, feeling a strong sense of unity and purpose.
Entering Camp Nou, both teams were greeted by the deafening roar of the crowd. The stadium was a sea of colours, with Barcelona's blaugrana and Madrid's white blending in a vibrant display of rivalry. Gavi and Pedri exchanged a brief look as they walked out onto the pitch for their warm-ups, a silent acknowledgment of what lay ahead.
The warm-up session flew by, each player focused on their routines. The tension in the air was palpable, the anticipation building with every passing minute. As the teams lined up in the tunnel, Gavi found himself standing next to Pedri.
"Ready to give it your all?" Pedri asked, a grin playing on his lips.
"Always," Gavi replied, his eyes shining with determination.
The referee's whistle blew, and the players walked out onto the pitch to a thunderous ovation. Gavi took his position in midfield, his heart pounding with excitement. Across from him, Pedri did the same, their eyes meeting briefly before the game began.
From the outset, the match was intense. Both teams attacked with ferocity, their movements swift and calculated. Gavi found himself in the thick of the action, his every move a blend of precision and instinct. He could sense Pedri's presence on the pitch, their paths crossing multiple times.
The first half was a blur of action and emotion. Barcelona and Madrid traded blows, each team seeking to gain the upper hand. Gavi's tackles were sharp, his passes crisp. He could feel the energy of the crowd fuelling him, pushing him to go further, to be better.
Pedri, on the other hand, was a vision of grace and control. His dribbles were mesmerizing, his vision impeccable. He orchestrated Madrid's attacks with a calm confidence, always aware of Gavi's presence. Their battles in midfield were a spectacle, each challenge a testament to their skills and their bond.
As halftime approached, the score remained goalless. Both teams retreated to their dressing rooms, the air thick with tension. Gavi sat on the bench, his mind racing. He knew that the second half would be even more demanding, but he was ready. He glanced at his teammates, drawing strength from their determination.
In the Madrid dressing room, Pedri felt the same resolve. The game was still open, and he knew that every decision, every play would be crucial. He took a deep breath, focusing on the task ahead. They had come this far, and he was determined to see it through.
The second half began with renewed intensity. Barcelona pushed forward, their attacks relentless. In the 70th minute, Pedri found his moment. A quick one-two with Vinícius Júnior left him with a clear sight of goal. He struck the ball cleanly, sending it into the top corner. The Madrid fans erupted in celebration, the noise reverberating through the stadium.
Gavi felt a pang of disappointment but quickly channelled it into determination. He rallied his teammates, urging them forward. In the 85th minute, his opportunity came. With a deft touch, he manoeuvred past two defenders and unleashed a powerful shot. The ball sailed into the net, igniting the Barcelona fans.
The final whistle blew, and the match ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw. Players from both teams exchanged handshakes and hugs, the rivalry on the pitch giving way to mutual respect. Gavi walked over to Pedri, their eyes meeting in a moment of understanding.
"Great goal," Gavi said, extending his hand.
Pedri took it, pulling him into a hug. "You too. That was some finish."
They stood there for a moment, surrounded by the chaos of post-match celebrations. The rivalry had not diminished their bond; it had strengthened it. As they walked off the pitch, side by side, they talked and laughed, their words a mix of banter and genuine affection.
Back in the dressing room, Gavi felt a mix of emotions. The match had been a test of their skills and their friendship, and both had emerged stronger. He sat down, taking a moment to reflect. Despite the rivalry, he knew that their bond would endure.
Pedri, too, felt a sense of fulfilment as he entered the Madrid dressing room. The game had been tough, but it had also been a testament to their resilience and growth. As he sat down, he couldn't help but smile, knowing that no matter where their careers took them, their friendship would remain unbreakable.
The sun set over Camp Nou, marking the end of another El Clásico.
After, Gavi and Pedri decided to spend some quiet time together away from the bustling streets and the energy of the match. They both needed a break from the intensity, a chance to simply enjoy each other's company without the pressures of football weighing on them.
They walked side by side through the vibrant streets of Barcelona, the city alive with post-match chatter and excitement. Despite their rivalry on the field, their relationship off the pitch had deepened into something special—a connection that went beyond football.
Gavi glanced at Pedri with a playful grin. "How about we grab a bite to eat? I know a great place not too far from here."
Pedri nodded, a smile playing on his lips. "Sounds good to me. Lead the way."
They found a cozy little café tucked away in a quiet corner, away from the crowds. The atmosphere was relaxed, the perfect setting for a casual meal and conversation. They settled into a corner booth, ordering their favourite dishes and sharing a pot of tea.
As they ate, their conversation flowed effortlessly from one topic to the next. They talked about everything and nothing—football, their families, their dreams for the future. It felt good to just be themselves, to let go of the tension and rivalry that often defined their professional lives.
"You know," Pedri said thoughtfully, setting down his fork, "despite everything, I'm really glad we made up."
Gavi nodded, a soft smile on his face. "Yeah, me too. It's been quite a journey, hasn't it?"
Pedri chuckled, shaking his head slightly. "That's one way to put it. From friends to rivals to friends again and to... well, whatever we are now."
Gavi's smile widened. "boyfriends, that's for sure."
Pedri's gaze softened, his expression becoming more serious. "Yeah, boyfriends."
They sat in companionable silence for a moment, the warmth of their connection filling the space between them. Despite the uncertainty of their futures—Gavi with Barcelona, Pedri with Madrid—they both knew one thing for certain: their bond would endure.
After they finished their meal, they decided to take a leisurely stroll through the city. The evening air was crisp and cool, a welcome relief after the heat of the day. They walked side by side, occasionally brushing shoulders, enjoying the simple pleasure of each other's presence.
As they passed by a small park, Gavi stopped and turned to Pedri. "You know, there's something I've been meaning to do this entire time"
Pedri looked at him curiously. "What's that?"
Gavi took a deep breath. "This."
Before Pedri could respond, Gavi leaned in and pressed his lips against Pedri's. It was a gentle, tentative kiss, a silent declaration of everything they had become to each other. Pedri's eyes widened in surprise at first, but then he relaxed into the kiss, returning it with equal tenderness.
When they finally pulled apart, their cheeks were flushed and their smiles were bright. Pedri reached out, tangling his fingers with Gavi's.
They continued their walk through the city, their hands still intertwined. The weight of their professional lives was still there, but in that moment, it felt lighter somehow. They knew there would be challenges ahead, but they also knew they would face them together.
As they walked, Gavi couldn't help but feel a sense of optimism for the future. Whatever came next—matches, training, life in general—he knew they would navigate it together. And with Pedri by his side, he felt like anything was possible.
The night stretched on, the city around them alive with the hum of nightlife. They wandered through the streets, lost in conversation and laughter, their connection growing stronger with every step.
Eventually, they found themselves back at Gavi's apartment. They stood outside the door, reluctant to say goodbye.
Pedri looked at Gavi with a soft smile. "Thank you for tonight. It's been... really special."
Gavi reached out, cupping Pedri's cheek with his hand. "Thank you for being here with me. I don't want this night to end."
Pedri leaned into the touch, closing his eyes briefly. "Me neither."
Gavi hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. "Do you want to come in? Maybe we could... continue this."
Pedri's eyes sparkled with warmth and affection. "I'd like that," he replied softly.
Gavi unlocked the door and they stepped inside, the air charged with anticipation. They stood in the living room, facing each other with a mixture of nerves and desire. Without another word, Gavi took Pedri's hand and led him to the couch.
They sat down side by side, their bodies close but not touching. There was a quiet electricity in the air, a mutual understanding of what was about to happen. Gavi turned to Pedri, searching his eyes for any sign of hesitation.
Pedri met his gaze steadily, his expression filled with trust and longing. Without breaking eye contact, he reached out and gently traced his fingers along Gavi's jawline, a silent invitation.
Gavi shivered at the touch, a rush of warmth spreading through him. He leaned in, capturing Pedri's lips in a kiss that was both gentle and hungry. Pedri responded eagerly, deepening the kiss as their bodies pressed closer together.
They lost themselves in each other, exploring and discovering, their hands roaming freely. Time seemed to slow down as they explored the depths of their newfound intimacy, their connection deepening with every touch and caress.
Hours passed in a blissful haze, their passion and desire building to a crescendo. They moved together, their bodies syncing in a dance of love and longing. It was more than physical; it was a celebration of everything they had overcome, everything they had become to each other.
Eventually, they lay entwined on the couch, their breathing slowing as they basked in the afterglow. Gavi ran his fingers through Pedri's hair, his heart overflowing with love and contentment.
Pedri shifted closer, resting his head on Gavi's chest. "I'm glad we took this step," he murmured, his voice filled with emotion.
Gavi pressed a kiss to the top of Pedri's head. "Me too. I've never felt this way about anyone before."
They lay together in comfortable silence, their bodies moulded together as if they were made for each other. The world outside seemed distant and insignificant compared to the intimacy they shared.
As the night wore on, they eventually drifted off to sleep, wrapped in each other's arms. The city outside continued its restless hum, but inside Gavi's apartment, all was calm and still.
In the morning, Gavi woke to find Pedri still asleep beside him. He watched him for a moment, marvelling at the peaceful expression on his face. The events of the night before felt like a dream, but the warmth of Pedri's body beside him was a reassuring reminder that it was real.
Gavi gently brushed a strand of hair away from Pedri's face, his heart swelling with love. He knew there would be challenges ahead, moments of uncertainty and doubt. But in that moment, all he felt was an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the man lying next to him.
Pedri stirred awake, blinking sleepily up at Gavi. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he reached out, tracing a pattern on Gavi's chest.
"Morning," he murmured, his voice soft and husky with sleep.
Gavi grinned down at him, unable to contain his happiness. "Morning, amor."
They lay there together, savouring the quiet intimacy of the moment. The world outside seemed to fade away as they lost themselves in each other's presence.
Eventually, reality intruded in the form of their professional obligations. Gavi had training later that morning, and Pedri needed to return to Madrid.
Reluctantly, they untangled themselves from each other and got ready for the day ahead. Gavi brewed a fresh pot of coffee while Pedri showered and dressed.
As they sat down to breakfast, Gavi couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. "I wish you didn't have to go back," he admitted quietly.
Pedri reached across the table, squeezing Gavi's hand reassuringly. "Me too. But we'll see each other soon, right?"
Gavi nodded, smiling gratefully at him. "Definitely. And until then, we'll make the most of every moment we have."
They finished breakfast in companionable silence, their thoughts turning to the future and all the possibilities it held. Despite the distance that would separate them in the coming days, their connection remained strong and unbreakable.
After breakfast, they walked together to the door. Gavi pulled Pedri into a warm embrace, holding him close for a long moment.
"Take care of yourself, okay?" Gavi murmured against Pedri's ear.
Pedri nodded, his arms tightening around Gavi. "You too. And remember, I'm just a phone call away."
They exchanged a lingering kiss before reluctantly parting ways. Gavi watched Pedri disappear down the street, his heart heavy with longing but also filled with hope.
As he closed the door behind him, Gavi couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the beginning of their story together. No matter where life took them, he knew they would always find their way back to each other.
And with that thought in his heart, Gavi headed to training, his mind filled with visions of a future filled with love, laughter, and endless possibilities.
About a week after their intimate night together, life for Pedri and Gavi took an unexpected turn. It was a Saturday afternoon, and Real Madrid was playing an away game against Mallorca at the Estadi de Son Moix. Pedri was on the pitch, fully focused on the game, when at halftime, as he walked into the tunnel to go to the locker room, he overheard someone calling him names.
"Hey, isn’t that pedri just look at his back it is the exact same as the person kissing Gavi”
Pedri froze, his heart sinking as he realized what they were talking about. He glanced over his shoulder and saw a group of spectators pointing and whispering, their faces a mixture of curiosity and judgment. He quickened his pace, his mind racing with thoughts of how this would affect both of their lives.
Once inside the locker room, Pedri couldn't shake the feeling of vulnerability and betrayal. Their private moment had been stolen from them, and now he felt exposed to the scrutiny of not just the fans in the stands, but the world watching through their screens.
Meanwhile, across the city in Barcelona, Gavi sat in his living room with Fermín, watching the match on TV. It had been a tense first half, with Real Madrid struggling to break down Mallorca's defence. Gavi was deeply invested in the game when his phone lit up with multiple notifications.
Curious, he unlocked his phone and saw a flood of messages and missed calls from friends and family. Confused, he checked the messages and was met with a mix of shock, concern, and disbelief. Someone had leaked a photo of him and Pedri kissing, and it had spread like wildfire across social media and news platforms.
Fermín glanced at Gavi, concern etched on his face. "Gavi, what's going on?"
Gavi's heart sank as he realized what had happened. He quickly opened a news article on his phone and saw the damning evidence—the photo of him and Pedri, their private moment now laid bare for the world to see.
"I... I don't know how this got out," Gavi muttered, his voice trembling with a mixture of anger and fear.
Fermín reached out, squeezing Gavi's shoulder in a show of support. "I'm so sorry, Gavi. This must be really tough."
Gavi nodded numbly, unable to tear his eyes away from the screen. The comments beneath the article were harsh and invasive, tearing apart their privacy and exposing their relationship to public scrutiny.
Pedri tried to focus on the second half of the game, but the knowledge that the photo was now public consumed his thoughts, leaving him distracted and shaken. Every time he looked up from the game, he could feel the weight of scrutiny from the fans and the media.
Despite his best efforts, Pedri's performance began to suffer. His passes were off target, his tackles mistimed. He knew his mind wasn't fully on the game, and it frustrated him to no end. The team needed him to be at his best, especially in such a crucial match.
At one point, as he attempted to intercept a pass, he was tackled roughly from behind. He hit the ground hard, his shoulder taking the brunt of the impact. Pain shot through his body, but it was nothing compared to the ache in his heart.
The referee blew the whistle, signalling a foul, and Pedri clenched his fists in frustration. He knew he needed to pull himself together, for the sake of the team and for himself. But the weight of the situation hung heavy on his shoulders, threatening to crush him.
After the game, Pedri retreated to the locker room, his mind buzzing with thoughts. He ignored the reporters clamouring for his attention, focusing instead on changing out of his kit and grabbing his belongings. He needed to get home, away from the prying eyes and probing questions.
Meanwhile, Gavi had turned off his phone, unable to bear the continuous stream of notifications and messages. He paced restlessly around the living room, his thoughts consumed by worry for Pedri and anger at whoever had violated their privacy.
Fermín watched him quietly, knowing that Gavi needed space to process everything that had happened. He waited until Gavi finally sank down onto the couch, his head in his hands, before speaking.
"You know," Fermín said gently, "this doesn't change anything between you and Pedri. It's just... noise."
Gavi looked up at him, his eyes filled with turmoil. "I know, but... I hate that our private life is being dragged through the mud like this. Pedri doesn't deserve any of this."
Fermín nodded sympathetically. "None of us do. But you two will get through this. Together."
Gavi sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair. "I hope so. I just wish..."
Before he could finish his sentence, there was a knock at the door. Gavi frowned, not expecting any visitors at this hour. He glanced at Fermín, who shrugged, equally puzzled.
Gavi approached the door cautiously and peered through the peephole. Standing on the other side was Pedri, looking exhausted and defeated. Gavi's heart clenched at the sight of him, and he quickly unlocked the door and pulled Pedri into a tight embrace.
Pedri buried his face in Gavi's shoulder, his body shaking with silent sobs. Gavi held him close, whispering soothing words and stroking his back. They stood there in the doorway for what felt like an eternity, finding solace in each other's arms.
"I'm sorry, Pedri," Gavi murmured against Pedri's hair. "I'm so sorry this happened."
Pedri pulled back slightly, meeting Gavi's eyes. "It's not your fault, Gavi. It's nobody's fault but the person who leaked that photo."
Gavi nodded, his jaw clenched with determination. "We'll get through this, Pedri. Together."
Pedri managed a weak smile, reaching up to cup Gavi's cheek. "Together," he echoed softly.
They stood together in the doorway, drawing strength from each other's presence. The world outside might be chaotic and unforgiving, but in that moment, all that mattered was the bond between them.
As they pulled apart, Gavi took Pedri's hand and led him inside. Fermín watched them with a small smile, silently rooting for their strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
"Come on," Gavi said gently, guiding Pedri toward the couch. "Let's sit down and talk."
Pedri nodded gratefully, sinking down onto the couch beside Gavi. They sat close together, their shoulders touching, as they began to discuss what had happened and how they planned to navigate the storm that lay ahead.
Outside, the city buzzed with activity, oblivious to the personal turmoil unfolding within the walls of Gavi's apartment. But inside, amidst the chaos and uncertainty, Gavi and Pedri found comfort in each other's love and unwavering support.
Together, they would weather the storm, emerging stronger and more resilient than ever before.
A year later, Pedri found himself back at FC Barcelona after completing a successful season with Real Madrid. Despite the challenges and distractions that came their way after the leaked photo, Gavi and Pedri's relationship had not only endured but had grown stronger.
Returning to Barcelona felt like coming home for Pedri. The familiar sights and sounds of the city embraced him warmly, easing the tension that had gripped him during his time away. He settled back into the rhythm of training sessions at La Masia, surrounded by teammates who had become like family over the years.
Gavi, too, had continued to shine on the pitch with his club. Their relationship had weathered the storm of media scrutiny and public attention, emerging resilient and unwavering. They had learned to navigate the ups and downs of being public figures, finding solace and strength in each other's company.
While not everyone understood or accepted their relationship, the public scrutiny had gradually lessened over time. People had come to respect their privacy, focusing more on their performance on the field rather than their personal lives off it. Gavi and Pedri appreciated the newfound sense of normalcy, where they could go about their daily lives without constant speculation or intrusion.
Together, they carved out moments of peace and quiet amidst their busy schedules. Whether it was cooking meals together at Gavi's apartment, exploring new parts of Barcelona hand in hand, or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home with Fermín, they cherished every moment they spent together.
Their bond had deepened with time, strengthened by the challenges they had overcome together. They knew they were stronger together, supporting each other through victories and setbacks, celebrating each other's successes, and offering comfort during difficult times.
As they stood on the balcony of Gavi's apartment one evening, watching the sun set over the city they both loved, Pedri wrapped his arms around Gavi's waist, resting his chin on Gavi's shoulder. The soft breeze carried the distant sounds of the bustling city below, creating a serene backdrop to their moment of reflection.
"Look how far we've come," Pedri murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to Gavi's cheek.
Gavi turned to him, his eyes filled with love and gratitude. "And look where we are now, stronger than ever."
They smiled at each other, feeling the warmth of their love and the peace that surrounded them. It was moments like these that reminded them of why they had fought so hard to be together, despite the obstacles they had faced.
Pedri traced his fingers along Gavi's jawline, marveling at the way Gavi's eyes sparkled in the fading light. "I never want to take this for granted," he whispered.
"Neither do I," Gavi replied softly, intertwining his fingers with Pedri's. "We've been through so much, but it's all been worth it."
Their journey together had been filled with highs and lows, but through it all, they had grown closer, learning more about each other with each passing day. They had found strength in their love, a steadfast anchor in the ever-changing currents of their lives.
As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, casting a soft glow over the city below, Gavi and Pedri held onto each other, their hearts full of hope and determination. Together, they knew they could conquer anything that came their way, their love a beacon of light in a world that sometimes seemed dark and uncertain.
And as they leaned into each other, sharing a tender kiss under the starlit sky, they made a silent promise to each other: to cherish every moment, to never take their love for granted, and to always remember that they were stronger together than they could ever be apart.
