Chapter Text

“Wow Kento, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this drunk before,” Gojo said as he helped Nanami upstairs.

“Haven’t been…in a long time…” Nanami replied as he dug through his pocket for his keys. He proceeded to find the correct key, reach for the lock, and drop the set of keys on the door mat.

“Hm.” Nanami said in response to this turn of events before he looked up at Gojo with drunken, bleary eyes.

“It’s the one with blue tape on the edge, right?” Gojo asked as he picked up the keys. “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything! I’m kind of the best at taking care of drunk people, since I don’t drink myself.”

Gojo led Nanami into the apartment, sat him on the couch, and went down the little hall into the kitchen. A bottle of water appeared in Nanami’s hand shortly after, and he drank it gratefully.

“Make sure you drink all that before you go to bed. It’ll help with your hangover. Is there anything else you need before I leave?”

“Stay,” Nanami said with an unusual force and decisiveness. “Please.”

“Aw, I just made you hang out with me all day and you’re not shoving me out the door–”

“Because…I’m not as annoyed by your presence as I pretend…and I’m hungry,” Nanami said as he slumped forward. “It would be has-haza…unsafe for me to cook in my condition.”

Gojo smacked his fist against his palm, a wide grin painted on his features. “I can cook exactly one thing well, and if you have the ingredients…” He disappeared into the kitchen.

Nanami realized the gravity of his request through his drunken haze and trailed after Gojo.

“Leftover curry, leftover rice, eggs…yup, everything’s here! Just the right combo for my 3 AM specialty–”

“That’s a specific time,” Nanami said as he leaned against the counter and sipped his water.

“I babysat Shoko a lot when she was drunk and you were…at your job before. So I think I understand the ebb and flow of the care and feeding of drunken friends. And even though it’s not quite 3 AM, it’s curry omurice time!”

Gojo set to work, multitasking and navigating Nanami’s kitchen like he lived there.

He almost…kind of does live here, Nanami thought as he watched Gojo work. The white-haired sorcerer sang a jaunty pop tune under his breath, moved and danced to a weird rhythm of his own making. He would normally find such behavior a bit childish, if not outright annoying, but in Nanami’s inebriated mind, it was…charming. Cute, even.

“Remember to turn off the stove,” Gojo muttered under his breath. “Find a plate.” He reached up into the cabinet without looking and pulled one down. “Aaaand slide it out of the pan gently.”

The level of concentration and care definitely pushed Gojo’s behavior into “cute” territory.

“All done!” Gojo grinned at Nanami as bright blue eyes sparkled over his glasses. “I hope you like it.”

‘Why wouldn’t I? You made it for me.”

“Well what if I dumped a shaker of salt in there? Or accidentally poured maple syrup all over the top?” Gojo took the seat across from Nanami, head in his hands.

“Even so, I’d still try at least one bite,” Nanami replied as he cut into the omurice and stirred it around a bit in the curry. “But just to clarify–”

“Nope! Didn’t do either of those things. I’m not mean enough to put maple syrup on there, and if I’d put too much salt I’d never let you eat it.”

Nanami nodded and took a bite. “Good. Both your statement and the food. You’ll have to show me how to make it when I’m less drunk. Or rather, not drunk at all.”

Gojo leaned forward, tensed with excitement, and watched Nanami.

“This is…delightful,” Nanami said as he shoveled another spoonful into his mouth. “The leftovers are good on their own but combining them into omurice…”

“Makes it a next level thing, huh?” Gojo said with a grin. “Like I said, it’s not much–”

He held out a spoonful of the curry to Gojo. “Try it. You worked hard, it’s only fair that you taste some too.”

“Oh, well if you insist!” Gojo took the offered bite. “Damn, I did a good job!”

Nanami woke himself up with a snort and rolled over to look at the clock.

11 AM…I don’t usually get the opportunity to sleep in so long.

He sat up. The curtains were closed tight against the outside sun, the apartment quiet and still. He looked down at his sleep clothes and remembered Gojo coaxing him off the bed to get changed.

Where is Satoru anyway?

Nanami heard the key turn in the door, and the shuffle of bags.

“Kento! The light of my life, my moon and stars, babe, darling, sweetheart–”

Ah. There he is.

Gojo threw open the door and beamed when he saw Nanami. “You're awake! Wow! Epic bedhead.” He pulled out his phone and snapped a picture before Nanami could stop him.

Nanami made a noise in his throat.

“Consider it payment for the plethora of pastries and coffee I procured for you my sweet.” He kissed Nanami on the cheek.

“Fine. But don't show it to anyone else.”

“I never planned to. It's just for me!” Gojo said with a wink.

Nanami sat down at the table, and Gojo sat across from him. He piled an assortment of pastries on his plate and methodically ate them, pausing for occasional sips of his coffee.

“What?” Nanami asked when he noticed Gojo staring.

“You've got cream cheese on the corner of your mouth–” Gojo reached and swiped a thumb over the corner of Nanami's mouth, then licked it off.

He crawled into Nanami’s lap and kissed him. Nanami set aside his plate and returned the favor, snaking a hand up the back of Gojo’s shirt.

“How naughty,” Gojo whispered as he bit Nanami’s earlobe.

“And what you’re doing now isn’t?”

Gojo plastered an innocent look on his face. “Me? Never!”

“You’re an awful liar, Satoru,” Nanami said with a laugh. He went quiet for a moment, looking up at Gojo thoughtfully.

“Let’s get married.”

Gojo blinked, then put a hand on Nanami’s forehead. “Huh? Are you…are you still suffering from the effects of the hangover? Because it…it sounded like–”

“I asked you to marry me? I did. And I’m…well, not perfectly in my right mind but. Cognizant enough.” Nanami rubbed his thumb on Gojo’s back. “It’s okay if you need time–”

“The answer’s yes, Kento! No thought required.” Gojo took Nanami’s face between his hands. “As long as you promise me one thing.”

“What’s that?”

“Cook me dinner for the rest of our lives. I’ll even put it in our wedding vows. It’s that important to me.”

Nanami smiled. “Is that the only reason you said yes?”

“Of course not! I love you for your shining soul and your hot bod too, but your cooking…

“The answer’s yes, Satoru. Of course I will…As long as you do the dishes.”

Fine,” Gojo said with an exaggerated roll of his eyes.

So the two of them married and for the rest of their lives, Nanami and Gojo made dinner for two.

Most nights, anyway.

Sometimes it was dinner for three, or four, or fifteen, depending on who stopped by for a visit. They never minded, as long as the guests called ahead so Nanami knew to make enough. While the sorcery world continued to be perilous and fraught with terrors, filled with dangers within and without, Satoru Gojo and Kento Nanami had each other.

But more importantly, they had the little family they’d formed as well. Yuji and Megumi, Maki and Nobara, Ino and Shoko and Utahime. Little bonds, loves, and relationships no curse could break nor take from them.

And of course, delicious, delectable food, always made with love.

THE END

Notes:

07/08/2024: Finally, an ending! I unearthed a chapter I'd written a while back and decided to post it here, along with the tiniest of epilogues to wrap things up. Is the vision I originally had for this story? Not particularly.

But I feel like I owed my readers, and myself, a happy ending for Gojo and Nanami, since canon...did not see fit to do so. At all.

I've been out of the fandom for a while and Gege Akutami managed to piss me off so much I quit reading JJK. Even so, I will always have a special place for these goofballs in my heart.

And on that note, I take my final bow. I hope you all enjoy the ending, and if you feel so inclined, you can find me over in the Hunter x Hunter fandom. I'm the guy in the corner writing old man yaoi about side characters.

So long, and thanks so much for reading!

Notes:

Never thought I'd get so deep into another franchise that I'd write fanfiction again but...here we are lol. This will be multiple chapters, but as for how many or update frequency...who knows!

While I deeply love and admire all of you Nanagos who write lovely stories with complex prose...I cannot do that. So I offer what is basically the equivalent of a trip to Clown Town with instead, and hope y'all enjoy!
