Chapter Text

"I got your floo call, you wanted to see me?"

"I am simply concerned," Orion started, but Pollux ignored the hint of letting him finish.

"It seems everyone is concerned for each other these days, especially for this generation," Pollux paused as he levelled with Orion's glaring gaze, "Unless your generation did it first, of course. Or was it the generation before that? They say Melania's blood made the family soft and chummy, and it was a mistake for Arcturus to marry her. Don't the Flints have some ogre blood in them? Or was it troll blood?"

Orion composed himself, "You know, Pollux? I've heard that you're much like your grandfather, but you actually remind me of mine. Sirius the 2nd. Unless you would like to prove otherwise. My grandfather was as crafty as they come, but your grandfather is a different story."

He took an envelope on his desk, and slid it over to Pollux. The younger boy opened it, and took out a piece of paper. Pollux saw a list of names, and raised a brow at Orion.

Orion gestured, "Go on, read." he commanded.

Pollux went on, "Lily Evans. Petunia Evans. Evan Rosier. Bertram Aubrey. Yvonne Kent. Alice Figg. Pandora Ollivander. Xenophilius Lovegood. All the people that were involved in the riots."

Orion gave a curt nod, "Read the one at the bottom."

"Mulciber jr. It looks like the name was being scratched out, but whoever wrote it changed their mind at the last second," Pollux noted, "Mulciber isn't a friend, him and Severus are in opposition."

"I'm sure you know about the Mulcibers."

Pollux finally smirked, "Yes. They may not have the madness, but they make up for it in their discreetness. They are always behind the scenes, and never let anyone know of their business. Most importantly, they never intrude in the affairs of others unless asked to. They choose their enemies carefully."

"Yes. This letter was sent anonymously. There's no name or address, and judging by the handwriting, the person is quite young. Regardless, it appears to be a tip of some kind. I want to know the agenda of everyone on this list, child or not."

"You want me to spy on Severus and his associates?"

Orion shook his head, "Mostly his associates. It's not Severus I worry about, but he can detect people invading his space. My son would not suspect you, Pollux. You're very good at watching people from afar. Not to mention everyone is aware that your eyes are on Sirius, and some other poor suspecting girl."

Pollux remained un-reactive, but Orion still picked up on his humorous mood. "Does everyone know of Abigail Higgs?"

"No, but they know about what you did to her brother," Orion sighed, "Although I don't encourage it, I ask that you keep up this mad act of yours. It will help with disguising yourself."

"What act?" Pollux asked, genuinely curious.

"Your unpredictability, I mean. You're calm for one second, but mercilessly hurting others another. I don't know where you got that from, but I hope you can work your way around it."

Notes:

I have a headcanon that the Black family believe that Arcturus marrying Melania not only caused a riff, but also cursed the bloodline. Melania lacked backbone, and was too kind. She embodied everything the family stood against, even if she too believed in blood supremacy.

Is anyone noticing a pattern with Pollux? Everyone has a story about him, but we don't witness him do anything. Do you guys want more Pollux action or nah?
