Chapter Text
"It's really not about you," Tim assures him, when Jon Sim's passive-aggressive muttering gets awfully close to losing the passive. He rolls his eyes at the now-closed door to the office of the Head Archivist. "You're doing fantastic, the promotion gave him a stick up his ass."
"That doesn't even matter, really. He has no right to deal with his insecurity by going on an abusive power trip." Sasha's voice is full of quiet outrage. "He's wrong, Martin."
"Sasha's right. I still care about him, but he's completely out of line."
They're very kind, but they're also incorrect.
It is about him. He's the one who lied his way into a job and who had to google what a citation looks like and still got it wrong. He's the one who showed up and made things worse. The one who doesn't belong, the one whose appearance brings an automatic scowl to his bosses face.
Jon Sims has every right. The man was just trying to adapt to a stressful new position, and he'd been shackled with Martin K Blackwood, whose only skills are making tea, shelving books, and apologizing. No wonder he's angry. Why would Martin expect anything less?
