Chapter Text
After the awkward interaction with the bedroom situation, the two went to their respective bags and began unpacking their items. Logan went out into the living room area and Wade stayed inside the bedroom.
He picked up his suitcase by the side handle and tossed it onto the large bed, using it as a counter so he won’t have to crouch down. Carefully, he unzipped the zipper, gently curling around the corners and circling the entire bag, opening it completely. With a push, the other side of the suitcase folded open and fell onto the bed with a thud.
Inside were stacks of somewhat neatly folded clothing, they weren’t perfectly aligned at the edges or completely flat but it was still good enough to conserve space. Of course Wade’s clothing folding skills weren’t the greatest since one, he worked in car retail not clothing retail, and two, who even has the time to sit there and get it perfect?
He pulled them out one by one, with a variety of pieces such as graphic tees, jeans, pajama pants, loose pajama shirts, and a couple of button downs and dress pants. Carefully, he laid them out into stacks on the bed but paused for a moment and slid his hand inside the pocket of one of the pair of jeans. He pulled his hand out and grabbed what was a pair of necklaces wrapped around a poorly cut rectangular piece of cardboard. The charm of both necklaces were shaped like one side of a broken heart, with the red one resembling Wade’s mask and the other yellow one resembling Logan’s. He peeked at the conjoined heart charms before closing the necklaces in his fist and bringing it close against his chest, thinking.
Ugh, look at me, almost forgetting about these things. I promised Yukio that I’d give this to him as soon as we got here. I gotta keep my promise, but DAMN I wish I didn’t! What a seriously awkward time right now… but I guess this could also kind of break the ice in here? Maybe? FUCK! Come on, come on, me. You’re brave, right?
Wade finally took a quick deep breath, paused for a second, and hesitantly sauntered out the room.
“Logannn, uh, I have a little gift for you!” he called out while singing his words, holding his closed fist tightly against his chest and nervously making his way over to the living room area.
Logan, who was sitting on the couch with his open bag on the coffee table, glanced up and saw Wade coming over. “A gift? What?”
“Just a little thing I wanted to give you, here.” Wade stopped in front of Logan, stretched out his arm, and opened his fist, revealing the necklaces. He nervously laughed and looked down at them, unraveling the chains from the piece of cardboard.
Logan studied them for a couple of seconds before pointing at the charms. “Ah, this… is supposed to be us, right?” He spoke in a tone of surprise with a slight hint of enthusiasm.
“Yeah, uh, this one is me–” Wade pointed at the red one. “-and this one is you, see?” he pointed at the yellow one. Finally, he peeked up at Logan’s face to see his reaction.
“These are really nice actually, Wade. Did you make these?” Logan grinned and took the necklace that had his half out of Wade’s hand and continued examining it. “You actually got my mask pretty well.”
Wade took a small step back, surprised at Logan’s eager reaction. He expected a cold “What the fuck is this?” since that would have been the reaction from him if this were a month ago, but Wade also realized himself that Logan had changed. He was much more warm and caring, acting like a helpful friend rather than a disgruntled work partner. He thought back to the moments on the bus where Logan would let him lean against him, agreed to watch movies with him, and even fixed his blanket while he was asleep. Wade brought his hand up to his chest remembering his touch, a firm yet gentle glide underneath his collarbone up to his shoulders. It wasn’t hasty either, it was genuine and well mannered.
“Mostly I did, yes, but Yukio and Ellie helped me out too. Can’t forget to credit them.” Wade pointed out with a smile. Despite that, he nervously began to rock back and forth in place out of restlessness.
“Oh, those two girls? Well then, tell them thank you. This is lovely Wade, I appreciate the thought. I’ll actually go ahead and put it on right now–” Logan bent his neck down and wrapped the open bracelet around his neck, fumbling with the clasp a couple times before successfully clipping it on then flipping it back around to face the right way. He gently tugged on the charm to straighten out the necklace chain then looked back up at Wade with a nod.
Wade stood still in place and laughed with joy. “I mean, I’m actually surprised you liked it ‘cause I thought you would think it’s too cutesy or something. You know, your whole tough guy thing going on.” He held up his fists in front of him to mimic Logan’s stance when extending his claws. “But, I’m glad you like it. You know what, I’ll put mine on right now, too.” Hastily, he took the necklace and clasped it around his neck in one smooth motion.
Logan stood up from the couch and put his hand on Wade’s shoulder. “We’re twinning now, right? That’s what they say these days? Whatever, matching, twinning, whatever it is, but you look cute, Wade. It suits your whole outfit with the cartoon pants and all.” He motioned at the Hello Kitty pajama pants he was wearing.
Wade gasped. “You like Hello Kitty?”
Logan shook his head with a laugh.“I don’t know much about this character but sure, if you like her then I like her too. “Cause I like seeing you happy.” He squeezed Wade’s shoulder before walking off towards the fridge in the kitchen.
He likes seeing me… happy?
“You want a drink or some water? Looks like they threw a couple of things for us in here.” Logan yanked open the fridge door and leaned down to view the contents. He picked up a can of beer and set it down on the counter next to him.
“Ah, I’m good. Thanks.” Wade shouted while blankly staring at his feet, feeling a hard pounding in his chest followed by a rush of warm heat shooting throughout his entire body.
“Okay.” Logan kicked the fridge door shut and flipped the beer can open with a single swipe of his thumb. He held up the can towards his mouth before getting interrupted by Wade.
“Wait, Logan, do you really mean it?”
“Mean what?”
Wade slowly turned around and looked into Logan’s eyes that were across the room. “You like seeing me happy. Do you really mean it?”
“Why wouldn’t I mean it? Of course.” Logan set down the beer can on the kitchen counter and smiled with a subtly puzzled look.
“Look, it’s just such a not-you thing to say. It just surprised me.”
Logan began walking back towards the living room area where Wade stood, stopping in front of him, both men now standing next to the couch and clothing-littered coffee table. They interlocked eyes as Wade started to restlessly rock in place once again.
“Wade, I’m not who I was anymore. Trust me. You’ve changed me. Everything we’ve been through has changed me. I really do care for you now as well as everything and everyone else that you love. You went through all that bullshit with me to save your universe and your family. You worked so hard for your happiness, and so, it makes me glad to see that you are.”
Wade, remaining silent, steadily inched closer towards him with a focused look, completely locked onto the other man’s eyes. He glanced down to gently grab Logan’s hand, wrapping his fingers around his palm to keep a light touch against him, then looked back up, serious.
Logan looked back with a nervous gaze, growing increasingly flustered from how close they were. To break the silence, he finally spoke up. “Is this some weird way of you making sure I’m telling the truth? Because I am, I promise you.”
Wade shook his head. “No, I need to tell you something you deserve to know. We’re going to be stuck together for weeks and if I were you, I would want to know this too. I honestly have no idea how you’re going to take this, but still, you deserve to know.” He didn’t speak in his normal playful tone but instead was straightforward, although he was on the brim of an anxiety-induced stutter.
Noticing the serious tone in Wade’s voice, Logan assuringly nodded to signal that he was listening. He began to realize what direction the conversation was seemingly heading towards, and saw that it was time he should finally make a move.
Goddamn it, I shouldn’t hide anymore. The way he’s acting tells me that I shouldn’t doubt myself anymore and that I need to at least TRY to make a move.
“I’ve been seeing you in a different way, I’ve realized for some time now that the admiration I had for you grew into something more.” He paused, briefly closed his eyes, then opened them back up. “You’ve done so much for me, and I can see how much you care for me– fuck…” Wade cursed under his breath.
Before he could allow him to continue talking, Logan grabbed Wade’s other hand and leaned into his face while continuing to look into his eyes. They were now only inches apart, noses almost touching, faces close together, and feeling each other’s breath against their skin.
“No, wait, I care for you more than anything in this world, Wade.” he whispered. “I’m done hiding it from you. You don’t know how much it means to me how you believed I could become someone better. I’ve been trying my absolute hardest to be better for you. I’m ready to take what we have a step further, but if that wasn’t what you meant, then forgive me.”
Wade broke out into an uncontrollably large grin. “Not what I meant? Really? Of course I want you, silly, look at all the hints I’ve been dropping. I was starting to think you genuinely didn’t see me like that at all and you just randomly turned into a suspiciously sweet old man.”
Logan slightly backed away and shook his head. “WELL, I thought you still had the hots for the girl, so I kept my distance. Guess it’s because I learned my lesson a long time ago that getting involved with something like that only hurts everyone.”
“Vanessa? I swear on my left asscheek that we’re just friends. I think I’ve said this before, but I mean, we both are already seeing other people. Come on, for someone as freakishly good looking as you I expected more confidence, big boy.”
Logan teasingly rolled his eyes and let go of Wade’s hands, then shoved him onto the couch seat leading him to fall onto the cushions like a limp body. “I’ll give you confidence if that’s what you want.”
Wade scurried upright, laughing, whilst Logan kneeled down onto the couch grabbing onto Wade’s shoulder with one hand and cupping his face with the other to go in for a deep, long-awaited kiss. Logan was cautious to not lean on Wade too far (as he knew his own weight was quite heavy) while Wade continuously wrapped his arms around the other’s neck and pulled him down. They stayed interlocked in the kiss for several moments, playfully grasping at each other’s lips and accidentally knocking items off the coffee table behind them before breaking away, Logan rolling off to the side to sit on the couch and Wade giggling like an idiot full of joy.
“You better get used to that now.” Wade gasped, attempting to catch his breath. “It’s going to be absolutely impossible to get rid of me. Many people have tried, and they all failed… sooo! Expect me to haunt you for the rest of your never ending life.”
Logan looked over to his side at Wade and shrugged. “Actually, at this point that’s a good thing. It gets real tiring outliving everyone.”
“Oh, so you’re cool with it then? Good. We have all the time in the world to do butt-fuck anything we want. Which also means we can come back to talking about our sappy feelings later, because MAN I am starving! Wanna go out for a bite?”
“Yeah, ok. You choose the menu since I have no clue what is around here.”
Wade promptly stood up from the couch and headed over to the kitchen, placing Logan’s open beer back into the fridge then leaned onto the counter with his arms. “I know exactly where to go, don’t worry. But, for dessert, we have to grab a churro.”
Logan raised his eyebrow and stood up from the couch, fixing his crooked belt and dusting off his pants. “What do you mean we have to?”
“So we can finally do something I’ve wanted to do ever since I got that cute job offer from Disney. Share a churro… Lady and the Tramp-style.”
