Chapter Text
Nile couldn't help but laugh when Nicky told her what happened to Joe.
Nile: "What was it Joe ended up in?"
Nicky: "I'm not breaking the promise I gave him that day, but let's just say it took a good week before they allowed him into the bathhouse."
Nicky smiled over something Nile didn't know what it was.
Nile: "Then it's good I can make my own conclusions, but what happened to the Wazir?"
Nicky: "When we passed through the area a couple of decades later, we heard stories about a Wazir who left his wealthy life behind and died while trying to save a group of slaves."
Nicky looked out on the rain. By the size of the raindrops, it would only be a matter of days before the monsoon would be over.
Nicky: "One day, you might end up in a similar situation as we were, so remember that sometimes it's better to scare people into changing their views than kill them. That way, they can make an effort to make the world a better place for their fellow human or be a help for you one day when you collect a favour for not killing him."
A thump could be heard inside the hut.
Nile: "I'll keep that in mind."
Nile looked inside the hut where Joe, at the moment, had lost the upper hand.
Nile: "What do we do with them?
Nicky: "Let me. I know a way."
Nicky stood up, and Nile followed him. Seconds later, Nicky held up a tin.
Nicky: "You know what, Nile? There are more cookies for us since others are busy with something else."
When Booker heard the word "cookies", he elbowed Joe, who let out a "huff" when the air was knocked out of him when Booker stood up.
Booker: "Sorry, Mate, but cookies are more important than you."
Booker took the cookie Nicky offered him before picking up his book. Joe rubbed his ribs before sitting up, and Nicky gave him a cookie.
Joe: "Thanks, I need that."
Joe looked over at Nile, who was smiling.
Joe: "Nicky, did you tell her what happened to me?"
Nicky looked offended.
Nicky: "I gave you a promise, and I'm still keeping it. All I did was tell her about the smell that followed you for a week after we dealt with the Wazir, right Nile?"
Nile: "That is true, but there is something I really want to know."
Nile ate the rest of her cookie.
Nile: "What happened in Lyon back in 1935?"
Nicky: "I also want to know it."
Joe and Booker looked at each other because, even after all this time, they weren't ready to tell that story.
