Chapter 3: 1st Night of the Play: Deleted Scene

Notes:

Just like the chapter title says. This is what could have happened the first night of the play. It didn't quite fit for me when I was originally writing so it wasn't added.

Anywho, enjoy!

Chapter Text

Day’s feet ache as he walks back to his tent. The first night is always the worst. He waves goodnight to Bunzo and Candy as they walk to their separate tents. When Day walks into his tent he smells lavender, but doesn’t see the certain someone it belongs to. Day looks into the shadows of his tent, but doesn’t see anyone. It could be someone walking by outside his tent with lavender flowers. He's too tired to worry about it right now.

Day tiredly starts to undress, slipping his shirt off first so he can remove his makeup. He wipes away the makeup carefully and rubs his face dry with a different towel set to the side. With that done Day stands to go to his wardrobe, opens it, and freezes.

Curled in a corner of his wardrobe, fast asleep, is the lavender cat. He doesn’t even twitch when Day opens the doors. Day stares at the sleeping cat and debates with himself. Should he wake him up and kick him out? Or change quickly and run? Lavender Cat did try to grab him on stage so…Day will just change and leave. With his mind made up, Day grabs his regular shirt from the wardrobe and tugs it on. As he undoes the ties to his pants a noise comes from his wardrobe. Day’s head whips around to look. The door shuts right as he makes contact with lavender eyes. The only sounds in the tent filter in from outside of it. Day’s eyes narrow at the closed wardrobe door.

“Were you watching me change?” Day whisper exclaims. The pervert in the wardrobe doesn’t answer.

Day frowns and stomps over to pull the door open. After a brief moment of resistance the door reveals the intruder. The cat at least has the decency to look ashamed. His lavender eyes stay locked on the wood of the wardrobe wall beside him.

“Why are you even in here?” Day sighs, tired.

“Why wouldn’t I be?” the cat mutters.

“Why? This isn’t a tavern! It’s my wardrobe–look, what do you want?”

“Why don’t you finish changing and then we can talk about why I’m here,” the cat says calmly. He sounds unaffected by everything now, but his eyes resolutely stay off of Day.

“You’re seriously just going to–” Day doesn’t even finish the sentence. His patience is thin and his mind is working slower than it should. He just grabs the top of his costume and carefully hangs it in the wardrobe so it doesn’t wrinkle. He slips his casual pants out of the wardrobe and closes the door to the wardrobe. He expects to hear a protest or the door creak open again. Nothing happens. Still suspicious, Day watches the wardrobe as he changes as fast as he dares without ripping any clothing. Neither Poppy or Mommy would be happy about that.

Day slides his casual pants back on. He ties them closed and reaches into the wardrobe to hang the bottom of his costume. He meets lavender eyes and debates what to do again. Maybe he should just call security, but that would keep him from going home even longer.

Not in the mood for this, Day calmly hangs the costume on the opposite side of the wardrobe from the intruder. Keeping his cool, Day closes the wardrobe gently and slides the lock shut. As soon as it's in place he dashes over and grabs his bag sitting by the chair. The wardrobe doors bang as the cat tries to open the doors. Day runs out of the tent, angry hissing fading from his ears as he passes security.

Day has no idea why the Lavender Cat was in his wardrobe, but it can't be for anything good.

Notes:

Hello again! Or for the first time!

I have a confession, I had to cut a lot from Chasing Daylight for different reasons. It's bothered me for a while that I didn't get to write it in. Speaking of- WHY HAS NO ONE MENTIONED HUGGY'S REQUEST TO THE SAINT?????? No one has asked about it at all! WHY?????

I decided to write it here instead. Sorry it's so short, but this will be a side thing while I work on my other big fic.

Anywho, thank you for reading!
