Chapter Text

The relationship ends not with a bang, but a whimper. Serenity wakes up to find Nehelenia gone, her items packed. She rushes outside, and there is light away from the dome.

In her nightdress and a cloak, Serenity gives chase.

She catches a caravan of the moon’s people, and on a throne in the back is—

“NEHELENIA!”

They pause. The throne is set down, and Nehelenia descends.

“Yes, my star?” She asks.

“What are you doing?” Serenity asks.

“The moon withdraws from the Silver Millennium,” Nehelenia says. “I’m sick of you, you pathetic woman.”

“How dare you!” Serenity declares. “I have only done good—”

“For you,” Nehelenia says. “Don’t forget me, my star. Because I’ll be back. I’ll be back to remind you whose planet we’re on. The moment you need me most.”

Serenity glares, and she grabs her.

She is shoved away.

“Do you think I’m a fool?” Nehelenia asks. “I knew you were one of the people of the stars. But I welcomed you. I chose you .”

“And look what I’ve done,” Serenity says. “You don’t have to wander, we’re recognized .”

Recognized. Respected. Safe .

Nehelenia just turns away.

“I don’t need you anymore, Serenity.”

And thus, there is the queen of the dead moon, and there is the silver queen.

No longer two sides of the same coin.

Nehelenia walks back to her thrown, whispers words with her strange new aid that felt like the darkness Serenity despised. But she was never listened to. None but her own kind know or believe that the wars waged between stars weren’t of their own people’s making.

…so why bother, now?

Serenity watches her partner go, and then she goes home. Not understanding. Scared.

When she wakes, a crystalline egg lays beside the silver crystal.

The true Serenity of the Moon.
