Chapter 1: greetings

Chapter Text

Happy Star was just minding his own business. He was about to make another guide to object shows, as that's a good distraction from everything else. He didn't know what exactly to make it about...

He had already done characters. Intros? Done. Walk cycles... Smooth motions, Lip syncing. He had already done those too. Maybe he shouldn't do something about editing this time? Happy Star was really running out of ideas.

Writing? It's broad, but it could work for an episode. Would have to be pretty lengthy though... Whatever, it works.

Happy Star had been thinking about his talking points when he saw something out of the corner of his eye. It was... Falling..? He hadn't dropped anything...

He floated a little higher. It looked like a brown blur, falling from above.

He reached his hand out and managed to grab a part of this thing, now getting a closer look.

A... Lantern? What was a lantern doing here. Were they sent to kill him??? Kind of pathetic if they were.

Happy Star had grabbed their arm, but decided to put his other hand on the handle while letting go of the limb, as he didn't want to accidentally pull it off somehow. Object limbs can be fragile.

The handle fits into his hand nicely. Happy Star wasn't currently the size he wanted to be, he was definitely bigger than the lantern.

...Maybe he should just drop them? They don't seem to be too alive right now.

Happy star was very lost in thought; so he didn't even notice the lantern open their eyes.

"Hi..?" They said, looking at the star.

He had been flicking through the radio. How long has it been..? He didn't know. Ignoring the voices from the other side of the room, he was just twisting around the nob, to see if anything worked. He needed to get back to that universe... It was practically his home. He barely remembered anything about earth. His life before he died. He doesn't even remember when he died.

Remembering all of the times he had been killed was hard too. Drowning, suffocation, being crushed... He had been crushed a lot. That's what usually happens when you're in a universe you don't belong. At least he hasn't gone where the humans were. Those guys look weird...

He pulled the antenna, hoping that this would be the one.

Falling.

He was falling.

He looked ahead. Light blue, fading down into a darker hue, before going completely black at the bottom.

Welp, another death.

He closed his eyes, waiting for the pain to shoot through his body when he hit the ground. Hopefully there was ground...

Then. It stopped.

It took him a moment to realize, but he wasn't falling anymore. He had been caught by something.

Did it really matter? This universe probably wouldn't work well with him. I guess a plus was that it was quiet... Too quiet though. All he could hear was a low hum, probably coming from the abyss below.

He decided to open his eyes finally, getting a glimpse at what was holding him.

A. Star..? Probably around twice the size of him. Big eyes, thick limbs the same colour as his body. Odd.

Why did they catch him? Curiousity, probably. They were staring at him with big eyes. Maybe Airy was like a new toy to them? Airy was pretty stiff. He was being held by the handle, after all. They had grabbed his arm at first, so maybe they did want him to keep his limbs..? He was really conflicted.

"Hi..?" He finally spoke up. It had been awhile since he had used his voice. Did he always sound like that?

Actually, would this thing even speak English?? The star's face changed a bit though, hopefully they understood...

Happy Star stared at the lantern. He didn't really expect it to be alive, let alone have such a... Monotone voice?

"Hello there!" He said. The lantern seemed to jump, then relax a bit. Usually, he would avoid talking. But that was more so in the videos. His voice was very cheery, almost the opposite of the lantern's. He didn't hate his own voice, he just wasn't really used to using it. He sounded like a kid. Well, he wasn't that old anyway, but nobody would really take him seriously.

Since this lantern was alive, he knew what question to ask...

"Would YOU like to join my object show?"
