Chapter Text
Vi had spent the morning contemplating the strange, unexpected shift in her relationship with Caitlyn. For the first time in a long while, it wasn’t about proving who was better, who had more power. It was different, almost normal. And as much as that confused her, she couldn’t deny the excitement building up inside her.
So when Caitlyn texted her that afternoon, inviting her over for cupcakes, Vi didn’t hesitate.
ViStands4Violence: “Cupcakes, huh? I can’t resist. I’ll be there.”
Vi arrived at Caitlyn’s house later, knocking on the door with a bit of hesitation in her step. When Caitlyn opened the door, she was smiling brightly, dressed casually in a t-shirt and jeans, a stark contrast to the perfectly polished, well-put-together Caitlyn Vi was used to.
“Hey, Violet,” Caitlyn greeted, stepping aside to let her in. “Glad you could make it. You came for the cupcakes, right?”
Vi smirked. “I mean, if they’re anything like your charm, I’m expecting something really impressive.”
Caitlyn rolled her eyes, a grin tugging at the corner of her mouth. “You’re impossible. But I’ll take it as a compliment.”
Vi followed her into the kitchen, where a tray of cupcakes sat on the counter. They were beautiful —colorful frosting swirled with perfect precision, glittery sprinkles on top, the works. The kind of cupcakes you’d expect from a baker, not a chemistry nerd.
“You really went all out, huh?” Vi raised an eyebrow, amused. “What, you expecting Gordon Ramsay to walk in?”
Caitlyn chuckled, grabbing one of the cupcakes. “Maybe just a little bit of self-satisfaction. But I’ll let you be the judge.”
Vi reached for one herself, inspecting it like it was some kind of expensive artifact. “Well, if they’re terrible, I’m blaming you personally.”
Vi took a big bite. Immediately, she raised her brows in surprise. “Okay, okay, fine. You’ve impressed me. These are actually good.”
“I told you,” Caitlyn said smugly, taking a bite of her own. “I’m full of surprises.”
Vi laughed. “Yeah, like how you’ve gone from ‘queen of the school’ to… ‘queen of cupcakes.’ Who would’ve thought?”
Caitlyn snorted. “Shut up, Violet. You’re impossible.”
They both laughed, and it was a moment that felt… oddly comfortable. For the first time in a long time, there was no sarcasm, no edge, just genuine amusement between them.
After a few more cupcakes and casual conversation, Caitlyn suddenly stood up. “So, about that—uh, you know—non-rivalry we’ve got going on now… I was thinking we could hang out again sometime? Like, you know, outside of this?”
Vi blinked, surprised by the question. “Uh, sure. I mean, as long as you don’t expect me to bake anything. You’re the cupcake expert here, not me.”
“I’ll let it slide this time,” Caitlyn teased. “But yeah, I’ve been thinking maybe we could just, I don’t know, talk sometime. Like, not fighting. Just… being normal people.”
“Normal people, huh?” Vi raised an eyebrow, smirking. “I don’t know if I’m ready to commit to that yet. I’m kind of a legendary pain in the ass.”
“Don’t I know it,” Caitlyn quipped. “But maybe I can change that.”
Vi blinked at Caitlyn, feeling an unfamiliar warmth flood her chest. “Yeah, well, you’d have to try pretty hard to get me to be all… nice and polite. Not my thing.”
Caitlyn stepped closer, her tone shifting, her voice softer. “Who says you have to be polite?”
Vi’s heart skipped a beat at the change in Caitlyn’s voice. She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, Caitlyn’s hand was on her cheek, gently pulling her into a kiss.
For a second, everything stopped—Vi’s thoughts, her heartbeat, the world itself. All she could focus on was the softness of Caitlyn’s lips against hers, the sweetness of the moment catching her completely off guard.
When they pulled away, Vi blinked, dazed. “Well— uh— that was…—“
Caitlyn gave her a sly grin, clearly enjoying the effect she had on Vi. “Yeah, I guess you could say it was a… ‘sweet surprise.’”
Vi’s lips twitched into a grin. “Oh, you’re so cheesy, Kiramman. But… yeah, I’ll admit it, that was pretty good.”
Caitlyn chuckled, stepping back a little. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Vi scratched the back of her head awkwardly, feeling a little flustered. “So, uh… what now? You just gonna kiss me every time I eat a cupcake, or what?”
Caitlyn raised an eyebrow, a teasing glint in her eyes. “Well, you did say they were ‘actually good,’ so maybe I’m just trying to make sure you’re telling the truth.”
Vi laughed, the awkward tension that usually filled these moments of uncertainty easing between them. “Right, right. Very convincing, Cupcake.”
“Don’t call me that,” Caitlyn warned, but the smile tugging at her lips made it clear she didn’t really mind the nickname.
Vi leaned in, her voice dropping to a playful whisper. “What? You don’t like it? I think it suits you.”
Caitlyn rolled her eyes dramatically but didn’t pull away when Vi got a little closer. “Maybe I’ll let it slide. But only if you promise to stop teasing me.”
Vi’s smile grew wider. “I make no promises.”
“Of course you don’t,” Caitlyn muttered, shaking her head but still smiling.
“So, what are we gonna do now?” Vi asked, tilting her head with a mischievous glint in her eyes. “You’ve got me here, all nice and comfy. You are gonna make me more cupcakes, right?”
“More cupcakes?” Caitlyn raised an eyebrow, walking over to the kitchen. “I think I’ve done enough for one day. Plus, I’m pretty sure you came for more than just the cupcakes.”
Vi followed her, standing just a little too close, her voice dropping to a teasing whisper. “Oh, I came for your company, too, Kiramman. Gotta admit, I’m starting to like it.”
Caitlyn froze for a second, her back to Vi as she gathered the empty cupcake wrappers. Vi caught her trying to hide the blush creeping up her neck, but the slight smile tugging at Caitlyn’s lips betrayed her.
Vi took a step forward, a bit bolder now, the playful mood between them still hanging in the air. “But don’t get any ideas.”
“ I haven’t heard you complain yet,” Caitlyn shot back, her voice low but confident. She turned to face Vi, leaning a little closer. “So, what else do you want, Violet?”
Vi’s heart skipped a beat. She knew exactly what Caitlyn was implying, and honestly? The idea didn’t seem so bad. But Vi, being Vi, wasn’t about to back down and show just how flustered she was.
She smirked. “I don’t know. I think we’re good for now.”
Caitlyn’s eyes searched her face for a moment, then she laughed, tossing her hair back and stepping toward the living room. “Fine, but next time, you’ll owe me. I’m already giving you a taste of my finest cupcake talents.”
Vi raised an eyebrow, following her. “Oh, I will? I’m starting to think I’m the one getting the best deal out of this.”
“Is that so?” Caitlyn asked, spinning around dramatically, her hands on her hips. “Well, I guess we’ll see who gets the better end of this next time.”
Vi grinned. “It’s a deal, then.”
And for the first time in ages, Vi wasn’t sure if she was excited or terrified by the thought of what came next. All she knew was that Caitlyn wasn’t the enemy anymore— she wasn’t even close. What she was, however, was someone Vi wanted to spend more time with, and that was something she didn’t quite know how to handle.
But it wasn’t a bad problem to have. Not at all
