Chapter 1: The Fans Love It

Chapter Text

Kody Hart.

What came to mind when you heard that name?

Was it the pop star? The infamous lead singer of the boyband D4RK*SIDEZ?

Or, perhaps, you saw him for who he really was…that being a lying, cheater who emotionally neglected his boyfriend.

Yeah, Kody wasn’t the best guy ever, not even close, yet his public image was somehow practically spotless.

He was known as the pretty boy of the group, and he lived up to it in all public ways. But, for those who he wronged, he was anything but. He was still outwardly beautiful, but it was tarnished by how utterly repulsive his personality was.

There were many reasons, some stated previously, to hate Kody. For one, he was manipulative. Secondly, he had a way of talking that made you want to side with him, even though the things he said were terrible. And, most egregiously, he lied, to everyone. Not just small either, he cheated, he destroyed trust, and he did it all with the face of an angel.

It was horrible.

But, there’s only so many times you can lie before those lies come back to you.

Enter Virgil Dean and Roman Duke.

Both of which had been fucked over by Kody, yet, they were still happy. And they found solace in each other.

Kody wouldn’t let that slide.

Not when he still wanted what they could give him, that being affection and attention.

Upon hearing that Roman and Virgil were planning on going out together, Kody decided to intervene. After all, he couldn’t just let the two of them get together after they, in his mind, fucked him over!

Virgil was at his locker when Kody approached him. It was after 6th period and the hallway was mostly empty so Kody felt it the best time.

“Hey.” Kody started, giving a slight smile as he leaned against the locker next to Virgil’s. “Long time no see.”

Virgil jumped back a bit upon hearing Kody’s voice, evidently startled by his sudden appearance. He exhaled and it sounded irritated. “What do you want?”

Kody frowned. “That’s no way to treat someone.”

Virgil laughed, the sound more bitter than humorous. “Yeah, says you.” He shut his locker, locked it, and slung his backpack over his shoulder before facing Kody. “What do you want?”

“I just wanted to talk to you.” Kody feigned hurt. “You left.”

Virgil barked another laugh. “Yeah right.” He rolled his eyes. “I’m totally the one in the wrong here.” Virgil’s

tone was dripping with sarcasm. “And let me make this clear: I don’t want to talk to you, Kody. Fuck off.”

Kody's eyebrows furrowed as his mouth fell open slightly and he scoffed. “Whatever.” With that he walked away.

Well, that didn’t go well, even if Kody wouldn’t say so out loud. He would have to change his tactic.

Talking to Roman would be a delicate process, but Kody was rather confident in his ability to persuade him.

Kody had known Roman since they were younger. Their families had always run in the same circles since they were both well off in a small town so it had been easy to get to know Roman through the parties and events.

They were childhood friends turned boyfriends, such a perfect love story.

At least it would’ve been if Kody actually cared about Roman.

Roman had always been an easy person to manipulate. He was caring, affectionate. He wanted to see the best in the people he liked. And he liked Kody.

Kody remembered the way Roman had asked him out the first time.

At the age of 14, Roman had presented a bouquet of red roses to Kody, and declared his affections for him. It had been the definition of a sweet gesture, so of course Kody went along with it. He’d always thought Roman attractive, in physicality that is, he was rather insufferable to be around for too long, and he’d known that Roman would make a good trophy.

So they’d started dating, in secret of course.

For the past two years Roman had given all of himself to Kody, which was rather nice, but it wasn’t enough.

Kody couldn’t be expected to be held down for two years in a relationship he didn’t want. So he’d had fun on the side.

Regardless of how “morally reprehensible” his actions were, it never really affected Kody. He was just having fun. Could anyone blame

Anyway, Roman was walking to his car with one of his friends when Kody went up to him.

“Hey, Ro. Can we talk?” He asked, feigning a cautious air.

Roman opened his mouth, his eyes wide as he saw Kody.

“No. He doesn’t wanna talk to you.” The friend, a light-skin guy with some paler patches of skin on the left side of his face, snarled.

Kody took a step back from the sheer venom in the guy’s tone.

“Oh, you probably don’t know who I am!” The guy extended a gloved hand. “I’m Janus. Virgil’s best friend and closest confidant.”

Kody didn’t dare reach for the hand, and sneered at Janus. “Oh, he’s brainwashed you, has he?”

Janus let out a guffaw and pulled his hand back. “Funny. No, he told me everything though. How you lied to him,” He took a step towards Kody. “How you coerced him,” Another step. “And Roman told me all about y’alls secret ‘relationship.’” He did air-quotes on the last word.

Kody tried to square his shoulders, but with each step Janus took towards him, he shrunk back.

Janus was grinning now and it was as unnerving as it was bold, which was a lot. “If you ever, and I mean ever, come close to any of my friends ever again? Well, I’ll have no choice but to deal with you.”

With one more step from Janus, Kody found himself falling off the curb.

He stumbled back, and fell right into the path of an older looking car.

Luckily for Kody, it was going slow, but unluckily for him, it hit him as he was falling and sent him flying over the asphalt.

The last thing Kody registered before he passed out was sharp pain in his neck and wrists and a loud laugh.
