Chapter Text
"What are you doing?"
The answer was a tired, drawn-out sigh, and a forehead firmly planted onto the table.
Alador looked over the carnage laid before his daughter. Half a dozen ruined or cracked molds piled up, tools and design papers scattered around, debris of unknown origin all over the place. And the blood cherry on top - the mangled forms of some silvery objects lined up as if on a cautionary display.
"Hi, Dad." Amity mustered through the obvious disappointment that she was going through.
"It's a bit late to be holed up in the workshop," he stated with some hypocrisy. He was just on his way to finish some blueprints in the solitude of the night. But it looks she had beaten him to it.
Amity's answer was only to sigh again, this time deeper, so it sounded more like a groan than anything else.
Taking the initiative, Alador walked up to the table and picked up a piece of loose paper. He couldn't quite decipher what it was. A snake curled up with a flower; he would have called it a simple drawing if it weren't for the measurements next to it. Taking a closer look, it was supposed to be something small and... made of silver?
"It is supposed to be a gift," Amity said before he even had to ask. Although her face was still turned against the table. "A matching set for me and Luz, for Grom."
"A matching set?"
"Of brooches."
"Ah."
It made a bit more sense looking at the tools and previous failures.
"I guess it's not going well, does it?"
"Not even a little bit." Amity finally got up. She picked up a mishapen attempt. Alador could spy the face of a cat, and nothing much else.
Alador gave her a smile. "Maybe I can help."
"Really?" Amity turned to him. "How?"
"Some of my inventions required custom parts," Alador said. "I got good at making them myself."
"Can you teach me?" Amity immediately perked up.
Alador nodded. "Let's make some space."
Amity scoffed as she looked at the table. "Let's clean it up instead. I can't even look at these things."
