Chapter Text

Barely a day had passed since Billy found his best friend cuddling with Sonic The Hedgehog under a tree, and knowing him, it was only natural that he wouldn't pass up the opportunity to make fun of something like this. Usually they used to walk together through the SEGA studios during lunch and as he walked with his best friend, he couldn't help but recall that embarrassing situation.

"Making a mistake is one thing but ending up like that again? This is getting sussy." The blond raised an eyebrow, staring at Alex to question him.

"You can think all you want Billy, but you saw for yourself that he just wanted to talk to the blue pinea..." He paused briefly to correct himself "With Sonic."

 “OooOoOh”

“Save your «OoOoOOhs» for another time, because Sonic and I don't even…”

A little noise caught his attention, making him turn toward a tree relatively close to his position. But when he looked at it, there was nothing but air.

“Alex?” Noticing his distraction, the boy called out, making him turn toward him.

“Uh?” The aforementioned simply shook his head; perhaps he had simply imagined it. “I thought I heard something, but… maybe it was just me.”

Something inside him told him that his senses hadn’t failed at all and there was indeed someone out there, but he didn’t want to drag Billy into an investigation without any tangible reason, so he let it slide, at least for now. Billy barely understood what had happened and seeing the boy in red in an apparent trance, he simply pinched him.

"Alex!”

“Ouch!” He cried out in pain, reflexively pushing his friend. “What was that?”

“I know you love to be deep into your thoughts, but break's almost over! we can't stay here any longer.”

He took him by the arm, leading him to their next destination. Even hours later, Alex was still thinking about what had happened that moment; his mind couldn't help but relate it to the blue hedgehog, but he didn't want to seem obsessed with him.

The hedgehog fled quickly, doing his best to avoid being seen. Even with his super speed, it was difficult for him to go unnoticed, that's part of what comes with having such a striking appearance. Sometimes he wondered if this could be considered stalking, but he chose to ignore that thought. He was just doing all of this out of curiosity, right?

Alex was still the man who had invaded his thoughts so much and with what happened yesterday, everything had become even worse (or better?). He couldn't go a second without thinking about him, wanting to see him, and even kiss him once again. He was supposed to be free as the wind, but right now, he felt anything but free, tied to the feelings provoked by Alex Kidd.

Sonic just hoped he didn't realize what was happening soon.

Today's accident made him realize how difficult this would be, especially in broad daylight. But he wasn't going to stalk him in his room. What kind of madman would do that?

Maybe following him was the least shady option she had. So that's what he did. The hedgehog just needed to be more careful, and everything would be fine.

At least that's what he thought.

He couldn't imagine that being so distracted watching him in the backyard, he wouldn't notice a flicky had left its mark in the air, landing on him. He let out a disgusted cry, which caught the attention of everyone there, including the boy in red.

He had been discovered.

“Hey!” Alex shouted, before he could even wipe the excrement off his shoulder.

“Alex! How surprised to see you! I was, um…” He thought of a quick excuse, and when he saw the dirt on his shoulder, an idea came to mind. “Birdwatching.”

“Really?”

“Really!” he replied with a nervous smile, mentally praying that the brunette wouldn’t notice his obvious agitation.

“At this time of day? In this yard and right under a tree?” Alex asked, staring at the hedgehog.

“Um… yeah?”

“We both know even you would believe that.” He shook his head, putting his hands on his hips in a gesture of complete disbelief.

He sighed at Alex's conclusion, realizing there was no point in continuing to deny the obvious.

"Are you following me?" He asked, getting even closer to Sonic.

"That's a very strong accusation, don't you think?" the hedgehog declared, trying to get away without success.

Alex walked to the tree that had previously helped him hide, practically cornering him, though he wasn't completely disgusted with the idea.

"What else could you be doing behind that tree? I knew I wasn't going crazy, it was true. You've been after me all day!"

"Calm down. If you wanted to tell me you were crazy about me, you could have easily bought me a chillidog or something..."

Alex could only blush. He winced at that statement, feeling the urge to hit him once again but he knew it was useless; that hedgehog seemed unable to understand the signs no matter what he did.

"You... stupid hedgehog!" Was all he could say; rage and shame were eating him up inside, making it impossible for him to say anything coherent.

The hedgehog's laughter filled his ears, as he realized the circumstances they were in. In the backyard, having a fight that looked out of a shojo anime, all while several SEGA characters watched them in confusion.

From that moment on, the rumors only began to spread like seeds in spring.
