Secret Love Song

Chapter 2: Epilogue

Chapter Text

The world had changed, as it always did. The names of heroes and traitors were etched in history, but some stories were never written down—some lived only in quiet glances, unspoken words, and aching memories.

Harry Potter stood alone under the grey sky, a single white lily clasped in his hand. The wind tugged at his robes, cool and soft, as if the air itself mourned with him.

The headstone before him was simple.

Daphne Eleanor Zabini (née Greengrass)

Beloved Daughter. Loyal Friend. Silent Heart.

Harry crouched and placed the lily gently at the base of the stone. His fingers brushed the cold marble.

It had been years—decades—since the Yule Ball. Since that night they had danced in a room full of people but only seen each other. Since the whispered lyrics had lived in their hearts:

"Why can't I say that I'm in love? I wanna shout it from the rooftops..."

He had meant to follow her that night. He had wanted to fight for her. But she had walked away with tears in her eyes, whispering, "I'm no longer yours."

They had spoken a few more times—civil, quiet, aching. She had kept her promise, or perhaps her burden. She married Blaise Zabini, as her family demanded. She became a respected figure in Magical Law, composed and elegant. And Harry—Harry saved the world.

He had fought Voldemort, won the war, watched friends die, buried his godfather and mentors. But even victory had felt empty, dulled by the space in his chest that had never quite filled.

He never married. Never even tried. Women came and went, some tried to understand, others walked away when they realized they couldn't compete with a ghost. His friends understood, even when they didn't have the words.

Daphne had children. She had smiled in press photos, shaken hands with diplomats, and grown old in quiet grace. And Harry... watched from afar.

Their glances in the Great Hall had faded into nods of recognition. Then into silence.

But every once in a while, on nights when the sky looked the same as that Yule Ball night, Harry would remember the way she had looked at him—like she had chosen him, in a world where she wasn't allowed to.

When the news of her passing reached him, Harry had gone to her funeral. He had stood in the back, obscured by shadows and silence. Blaise had given the eulogy. Her children had cried. Harry had not spoken a word.

But every Saturday since, he returned.

He would sit by her grave for hours. Sometimes he spoke to her—soft musings, updates on old friends, thoughts about books she once loved. Sometimes he just sat in silence. But he always brought a flower.

White lilies.

Years passed. His hair greyed, his hands trembled, but the ritual remained.

Until one Saturday, he didn’t leave.

They found him the next morning, seated beside her grave, a smile faint on his lips, one hand resting on the headstone, the other still holding a lily.

The obituary read:

Harry James Potter

Beloved Friend. Savior. Loyal Heart.

He was buried beside her. No grand statue. No headlines.

Just two stones, side by side. Silent reminders of a love that had never been allowed to bloom, but never withered.

And if the wind still carried a tune through the graveyard on quiet mornings, it was a soft one:

"I wish that we could be like that. Why can't we be like that... 'cause I'm yours..."
