Regulus POV
1 year later:
"Would you still love me if I was a worm?"
"No." Regulus replies while doing his hair, which makes James turn from where he was doing his hair.
"What do you mean no? Do you not love me baby?" James comes up to Regulus from behind, as he wraps his arms around him and buries his face in the crook of his neck.
Regulus sighs, "Ee have to get ready Jamie." But he leans back into James.
James grins against his neck, "First tell me if you'd still love me if I was a worm?"
James looks up, meeting Regulus's eyes through the mirror.
"I won't."
Gasping dramatically James puts a Hand over his heart, as he mimes getting shot, "Killing me love."
"What am I supposed to say? That yes I would love you as a slimy two inch creature, I would kiss you without hesitation and make love to you slowly?"
James giggles against Regulus' hair as he mumbles, "Yes."
Regulus takes a deep sigh, questioning all his life choices that lead him to this moment. He questions his own taste in men as he turns to James, “I would love you so much, even as a worm. I would make you a little worm home, I would make you a little worm car and I would take you everywhere in my little worm purse. I would not let you out of my sight, lest you get squashed because of your recklessness. I would make you little worm clothes with little worm accessories, sunglasses and rings. I would build you the best most beautiful little worm house, with a bathtub, a closet and a bedroom. I would not make you a kitchen because I will hand feed you everything. And I would love and cherish you forever.”
James acts, pretending wiping tears from his eyes as Regulus swats at him, “that was a beautiful darling. Never knew you could love a ‘little worm’ so much. And by the way, I got all of that on recording-”
Regulus glares at James, “Fuck you. No one will even find you if you show that video to anyone-“
James grins and kisses him, effectively shutting him up. He pulls back to mumble against his lips, “We are getting late love.”
“Fuck off.” Regulus pulls back completely to finish getting ready for the interview.
Honestly Regulus is used to these questions from James. Each time James asks them he is endeared by James and at the same time questioning his choice in men.
Every time these important questions are a variation of ‘Would you love me if I turned into a stag sometimes and ate all your front porch grass?’ or ‘ Would you love me if I was bald ?’ or ‘would you love me even if there was a frog croaking outside your house?’
And each time Regulus had answered ‘yes’ because he James is sirius’ best friend and if one thing Sirius has taught James is to be dramatic. So Regulus always knew what to say to placate his boyfriend.
He laughs at him and the two leave for the interview, an interview James is buzzing with excitement about. Regulus is excited too, but his excitement is no way at James level.
Because today they will be doing their first interview as a couple. But that isn't it, because the interview is the buzzfeed puppy interview.
And James hasn't been able to shut up about “Regulus there will be puppies! So many of them are Regulus! Little furballs, Regulus!” God Regulus is in love with a golden retriever himself.
James and Regulus after getting finishing touch ups enter the set and sit down on the floor where the puppies will be released. James is buzzing in excitement.
Regulus and James sit down criss crossed on the floor as James eagerly looks around waiting for the puppies.
When the producer comes up to them with a morose face, and turns to James as he speaks, “uhh. Mr Potter and mr. black, there has been a slight issue. And we regret to inform you that the puppies won't be able to join you today. There have been some health issues with them, so unfortunately this isn't a buzz free puppy interview anymore. Though we would like it if you would continue it as a normal interview, I think it would still be lovely. Only if you're up for it.
And the devastation on James’ face is visible so clearly, that even years of media training couldn't help him cover it up.
It takes him a moment to collect himself as he brings a smile to his face, how much dimmer, and looks at Regulus then at the producer and speaks up, “it's alright. Would have been lovely with the puppies but it is always a pleasure to work with Buzzfeed so we will be happy either way.”
Regulus coos internally at his boyfriend and nods in agreement. The producer exhales in relief and thanks them, “Thank you so much guys, I was so worried you'll just refuse now that there are no puppies.”
James just smiles in response.
“So the first question is for James, the past years have been hectic for you, you've recently had a lot of major events in life. Your first solo album, a sold out world tour with ‘the marauders’, your solo album- cooking at 3 A.M, topping charts and breaking records, hosting the met gala, singing for a disney movie, winning a grammy and emmy, starring in barbie, making it to the cover of vogue and being the first man in 150 years to appear solo on vogue cover, so i wanted to ask you. What is it like dating the new arch-nemesis of Spiderman, Regulus black.”
Regulus laughs out loud at the turn of event and turns to James so is chuckling too,
“Loved the question, thank you. So well, you are right in that, the past year has been crazy. I have received so much love from fans online, so many work opportunities opened up after the album, so many brand deals? Can you imagine I was on Vogue's cover? Like woah. It's been crazy , really super crazy. But in the best way.
And it's all because of spider man's arch nemesis. That asshole really has been the best achievement in the past year. Getting to kiss him in public, hold hands and walk with him, that has honestly been the biggest accomplishment of all. And oh my god, god you brought up the spiderman thing. So this man…”
And James starts talking about the first time when he got to know that Regulus would be playing as spider man's villain. He is so into the story he doesn't notice the door opening and the little whines. Slowly and quietly, the crew remembers placing six puppies all behind James' back. Regulus bites his lips to stop a smile.
James is still talking when one of the dogs tries to bark, coming out as a whine. James stops mid sentence and snaps his head to Regulus’s side, confused, he starts looking around for the voice and finally looks behind him.
And then lets out an honest to god shriek at spotting the puppies. He leans down and picks up four easily, hugging them close to his chest he coos at them.
The producer and crew chuckles from the side, “Sorry James. it was a little prank we were asked to do as asked by Mr. Black.”
And James' head snaps at Regulus, who raises one hand in surrender as the other is busy holding a puppy close to his chest.
The host corrects himself, “The other Mr. black. Sirius black.”
“Of course.”
“Now if you don't mind, could we start the intro shot once again.”
“Oh I don't mind anything now.”
“Hello guys, once again, I am back with Buzzfeed and today I will be getting to sit down with some adorable puppies and answer your questions. With Regulus.” James adds the last bit.
“Though I am sure I won't be answering any questions as I would be so infatuated with puppies I will just be playing with them all the time.”
“I'll answer for both of us.”
“Thank you, love.” James blows a kiss at Regulus which he pretends to swat away.
“First question. How did you two meet?”
James is now one with the floor as puppies crawl over him, “I love that question! But I also love this puppy!” Just then the puppy comes and lays flat on James chest, snuggling and going to sleep, James audibly coos and goes to lay down on the floor. Regulus smiles at his boyfriend who now has two puppies sleeping on his chest. One chewing his shoes. One playing with his hair. And one he is playing with with his hand.
Regulus is sitting across from him, looking at him, with two puppies who are comfortably sleeping on his lap, he continues to pet them and answers the question.
“Uhh we probably met years ago, through sirius. And James has always kinda been there in the periphery of my life. Like being sirius best friend he has been there forever but we-”
“Regulus looks at this darling!” and Regulus moves his focus from the camera to the puppy which was laying with James hair, now climbing atop his face and making his home on James forehead.
“Right. Next question. Regulus, which one of your next projects are you most excited about?”
“The project I am most excited about. I can not let you know, but it's going to be epic. It has this crazy cast with the most incredible set of actors. Few of them are my favorite and it has always been my dream to work with them, so yeah . This one movie that i will not tell you about , is what i am most excited about , and very excited for the fans to see.”
James sits up now, leg stretched in front of him, as a puppy nibbles on his shoes, “he hasn't even told me about it! Honestly you would think- oh that one really loves my shoes. Yeah, little guy get in there!”
“James, what was it like working with Greta gerwig?”
“It was brilliant we had- oh that one really loves my shoes.” James bends down and coos closer to the two puppies biting his shoe, “god these puppies are the best. Oh here buddy, woah, carefully darling. Reg, look at this one! He- wait what was the question again?”
And the interview goes on, Regulus and James barely answering any question, James especially, spends the entire time playing with the puppies and petting them.
They wrap up the interview and stay there for another two hours, because James wasn't “done playing with the pups.”
And when the pups were all drained out and sleeping peacefully in a line on James leg, was Regulus able to pry James away and take him home.
Home.
Regulus feels warms at just the thought of home, home with James, homes the one he made with James. The one they made with memories, laughter and love after such hardships.
Homes, his boyfriend's arms and hands.
Home, his boyfriend's eyes.
Home, his boyfriend’s kisses.
Home, his boyfriend's smile.
Home, his boyfriend.
Home, James.
