Chapter Text
When you try your best, but you don't succeed
The days became easier, as well as the nights. Things were finally looking up for the 118, for Buck. Until they stepped foot into the lab. When he heard that explosion from inside while he was outside. The rest of his team family was stuck in that room. The walkie was silent as he called over and over again for them to answer.
“Maddie! I don’t care about protocols, my family is in there!” He screams into the walkie.
“Buck I know but we need to keep you safe. We will get them out.”
Sitting in the tents that the FBI set up while being held in custody was not fun, not knowing what was happening, not knowing if they were safe. His leg started to shake as the thoughts ran on and on.
When you get what you want, but not what you need
A hand lands on his leg as it shakes, Buck looks up to meet his eyes.
Tommy’s it's not ideal but honestly any form of comfort right now would help. He leans into him and the tears flow, a hand starts to run up his back. He doesn’t care that his tears are leaving a spot on Tommy’s shirt, they used to date he can handle it.
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Buck’s eyes want to close, to let the darkness take him under. But just the thought of closing his eyes for one minute and something to go wrong. For someone he loves to die, he decides sleep isn't worth it. The feeling of someone hugging him is the only thing right now from his running into that lab. Everyone in the tent goes quiet, Buck looks around and sees Athena in the Camera.
“What is she doing in there?” Buck stands up quickly.
“Two of your other firefighters have contracted the disease.”
And just like that his world stopped.
“W-which ones?” He manages to choke out.
“Captain Robert Nash and Chimney.”
He freezes. His legs almost give out as there's people rushing out of the lap. Two people on a gurney.
“Bobby?” He runs over to them and sees Chim. His face covered in blood.
“Hey Buckaroo..” He chuckles.
“H-hey chim…” He then sees the second gurney pull away from the lab and them doing compressions. His eyes fill with tears and break as his breathing picks up as he runs over to them. “Bobby!” He yells as he gets pulled away. His face is pale and lips are blue and there’s blood all over his face. “Bobby!” He sobs and falls to the floor.
And the tears come streaming down your face
Bobby is put in the back of an ambulance with Athena and they drive off.
“Bobby!” He chokes out while sobbing. Rocking back and forth on the ground wanting the only person who isn’t here. The person that is almost 800 miles away from him. He reaches out for his phone trying not to drop it and finds his name and clicks on it.
It rings.
“Hello?”
“Eddie- I” Buck sobs.
“Buck? What’s wrong?” Eddie sounds more alert and awake now.
“It’s- Chim and Bobby- they I don’t know if they’ll survive.” More tears stream down his face.
“What happened? What do you mean they won’t survive?” He gets up from his bed and starts moving around.
“Just get here please. I need you right now…”
“Y-yeah okay. I’ll be there when I can. I’ll be there Evan.” He hangs the phone up.
When you lose something you can't replace
Buck doesn’t know how he ended up in the hospital waiting room. Maddie is sitting next to him with her head on his shoulder, dried tears staining her face.
“Mads?” He looks over at her.
“Is something wrong?” Her head shoots up.
“I-i’m okay. Are you okay?”
“As okay as I can be. Chim got most of the anti-virus so he’s doing okay.”
Buck nods, “I called Eddie…” He looks down at his hands. “I need him, I need him, Maddie.” He buries the palms of his hands into his eyes trying to stop the tears. “I miss him so much.”
“I know bubs, I know.” She wraps her arm around his shoulder.

Everyone else made it to the hospital, Hen had to go into surgery for her collapsed lung, so Karen was there. Athena was obviously also there. The nurse comes out about 30 minutes later with a clipboard.
Buck stands up quickly and walks over to her. “How is he?”
“Are you the family of Bobby Nash?”
“Yes he is, and I’m his wife.” Athena walks up to him and lays her hand on his shoulder. “How is he?”
She sighed, “He’s stable but since he didn’t get a lot of the antidote he still isn’t good. He will have to stay in the ICU until he starts showing signs that he is recovering properly. No visitors are allowed since he still is contagious.”
Athena nods and squeezes Buck’s shoulder. “Okay, that's good news at least”
Buck looks over at her and nods and then back at the nurse. “But we can’t see him?”
The nurse shakes her head, “Unfortunately not and if he does get better only one visitor a day to minimize possible contagion.”
Buck's eyes start to swell once more, “Okay…” He nods his head and starts walking back to the seating room.
Lights will guide you home
“Buck?” Eddie runs into the room.
“Eds?” He looks up at him and collapses in his arms.
“I’m here.” He holds Buck up as he buries his face into his curls. “I’ve got you cariño, I’ve got you.”
And ignite your bones
“Thank you for coming…” Buck mumbles while having his face on Eddie's shoulder.
“Of course, you.. I was scared, I mean you called me at 1am sobbing.” He begins rubbing circles on Buck’s back.
Eddie leads Buck over to a double chair in the waiting room and sets him down. Almost immediately he falls asleep against Eddie. Finally being able to relax with the one person who truly can comfort him fully.

They all ended up getting kicked out of the waiting room, they were there for almost 6 hours. Buck was still asleep when they were told to leave so Eddie took it home. When he walked in, it felt similar but at the same time not. It was his house but it wasn’t anymore.
Eddie laid Buck in bed and stepped out of the room. He looked around a little and found Buck’s calendar on the fridge. A date circled almost 2 weeks ago.
He quickly opens the bedroom door and sits down next to the sleeping blonde.
“Eds?” He mumbles as he stirs awake. “Are you okay?” He sits up on his elbows.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Tell you what?” Buck sits up fully now wiping his eyes.
“That the thing I forgot was me being away for one month.”
Buck’s face falls. “Oh, I didn’t want to remind you just in case you seemed pretty happy that day and didn’t wanna ruin the mood.”
Eddie takes Buck's face in his hands “But you weren't happy.”
He shakes his head. “I missed you so much.” He throws himself at Eddie into a hug.
“I’m here now, Buck. And I’m not leaving until you’re okay.”
Buck looks up at him, “Really?”
He nods his head, “Really.”
Buck smiles and looks at him. Really looks at him and his eyes fall to the other man's lips, then they quickly shoot back up to his eyes. “Can I?’ He asks quietly.
“Yeah.. You can.”
Their lips meet and it's slow and soft. Honestly everything Buck was imagining it would be like. Kissing Eddie is the best thing in his life right now.
“I love you Eds.” He breaks the kiss and looks at him.
“I love you too.”
And I will try to fix you
