In a fit of insanity, or jealousy, or maybe he’s just thinking with his dick, Eddie takes off his own hat, grabs Buck’s, then puts Buck’s on. His eyes flit around the room, and most people seem to turn away after that. There. Settled.
“What’s that about?” Buck asks.
“You wanna be a cowboy but you don’t know the hat rule?”
“No.” Buck crosses his arms and tosses Eddie a lopsided smile. “Tell me the rule.”
Sometimes you see your best friend ride a mechanical bull in his stupid mirrorball cowboy hat and the dam breaks. Sometimes you go to Nashville and have to tell your best friend you’re in love with him.

That makes Eddie sit up straighter, a frown playing on his lips. “I already told you that you being into men changes nothing between us. I meant that.”
“Okay, fine, great. That doesn’t mean you have to start buying me romantic dinners.”
“I don’t have to do anything,” Eddie points out. “I want to. At the very least so that you understand what romance really looks like and don’t settle for a dickwad like Tommy ever again.”
