Lami didn't end up waking up the next day or the next at least not for very long. Luffy tried to stay with her so he could talk her into playing with him but, knowing that she wasn't well, makino tried to get him to give her some peace. though he did alway come to her room at night and sleep cuddle up to her,and soothe her when the nightmares came knocking.after the third day she finally woke up enough to have a proper conversion.
Luffy had left for awhile to to go explore and answer some questions the old folk had about if it was safe to go fishing today, it was but he didn't now why they him. He thought it was obvious. The wind came rushing past him whisper secrets ‘she awake joyous one’
“really!”jumping down from the tree he ventured up to look at bugs, luffy started his mad dash back to the bar on the hill.
Rushing through the door luffy made bline for the stairs, just as makino went to stop him “hold up sweety she just woke, and is in a bath now give her a minute ok” . Luffy pouted at that he wanted to tall to her now but sat on his stool anyway to wait for her. It hit him then he didn't know her name, and not like HER name no , he didn't even know the one everyone knows. He'd have to get it, cuz they were going to be friend which meant he needed her name, both because he decided he like her and that she was his now.
Lami woke up groggy and not completely aware of where she is unwell a voice like summer breeze reminded her ‘good morning sweet thing don't worry your in the east on a island with your mother's seas and mine .our beloved. You are safe but still ill you'll have to speak with your, of curse to see if there is a way to heal you’ at that the memory came rushing back she stagger for moment but then lighted herself. She looked around for the kit that has been so kind and helped her through the endless nights and nightmares. ‘ my beloved is down stairs waiting for you sweet one get dressed and greet him’ nodding at lami started to get up signing, she's drowning in an oversized glass.What could only have been from the pretty lady. She giggled as the sleeve devoured her hands completely. The sea giggle back at her ‘ i am glad you're in a heavy mood sweet thing ,while you are not mine, i think I can learn to care for you just as my beloved already has’.
At that lami smiles more “ thank you .. what should i call you, I call my sea mother sea or mother, but you are not that?” The breeze swept into the open window.pushing the hair out of her face almost as if it was a hand ‘ you may call me mar or marmar as my beloved does if you like’ coding at and lami starts to make your way downstairs “ alrighty then thank you miss mar” see giggled again at her politeness ‘just mar is fine my dear’
Lami came around the corner of of staircase there's a greeted with the hustle and bustle of the bar noises from outside the kitchen. So what does the smell of food and a bright sunny Smile of a boy waiting for her to come downstairs.
The feet jumped from his bar stool and made his way into the kitchen wanting to tackle mimi buti is stopped by the wind, pushing back on him to remind him that she is weak. He slows himself down to about of his speed before.still ramming into her she winces but hugs him back nonetheless. “your up your up , you slept for sooo forever” he started.ro drag her to the front up.stop when he notices anxiety spike and make.a turn back to the table in the kitchen ino had for him “ how long was it out for?”they both sat down with luffy practically on top of her but she didn't mind the weight of him help settle her “ fooorrteeevver” she laughed at that the ocean joining in ‘you wear in and out for 3 days sweet thing’ that would explain the hungry nagging at her stomach Growled came from her and luffy stomach at the same time right as makino came in with a tray “ oh good tour awake and hungry it seems , I'll make you something, would you like the widow open the breeze seem to want in” amkino snicker at them and how the wind chime kept smacking the window lightly.
The ocean mad a weird sound in their ears and then giggled brightly ‘ tell.to open it please and that she should take you both to the shore line later right after dusk’ giggle came.over them all like a warmer summer breeze rapping around makino more so for just a moment
“ marmar say yes please and and to take us to the shore before bed time” luffy helpful told her the oceans wishes happily lami nodded “ she said right after dusk i'm not sure when bedtime is” lami being three years older and a little better with her words.
Makino opened the window a feeling the breeze rushed past her bringing sea spray to light kiss her face. she giggled at the feeling she knew rhe ocean was nicer to her then most she only believed it was because she was taking care of the one that was due to her, but oh it was more then that. The ocean love her something fierce, in a way she only has for few and far between fewer for those I did not sail her waters.
It's good to see you too, and yes, I'll bring them to the shore after dark once the rush is over. The ocean hummed, it was not what she asked, but she would wait for her lovely one and i'm most beloved as well as this new addition she's not quite named yet.
Makino started making food as the breeze kept the kitchen cool for them, she slipped out here and there to serve the few customers. She made a stew with a hearty broth to make sure mimi as she been deemed some easy to eat as well as skewers for luffy to munch on as well. Makino want more info but didn't want to push it. “Here you are my dear and for the ocean for her blessings” makino place the food done for her children cuz that what they were and a cup of tea in fish tea cup of the window seal. The ocean breeze rushed by in thanks bring flowers to rest on the widow seal makino smiles at the gift grab one of the more intact ones behind her ears leaving the widow and the children to work the rest of her shift with a warm feeling in her chest.
Luffy laugh at how he feels marmar swoon he doesn't know what it is rhe ocean feels for his mamma but he know it feels nice and makes him happy. Lami can't feel this new oceans emotions as easily but know it reminds her of how her ma and da use to go around each other playfully.
“OK done, know what you name.where are you from, how old are you” luffy ramble of question after question in a language lami did not know how she knew. “ okay slow down kit my names lami but I'd like you to call me lamb cuz were im from… um bad people came and messed everything up and i don't want them to find me so for now its mimi ok?” The kit stared deep in her eye the ocean stayed silent to ahe hope it wasn't telling him he was to young to now more details,he'll she was to young. Finally luffy nodded “ok I'll call you lamb but I want your real name cuz your mine know so I need it… oh and I'll give you mine so we even as marmar says” she smile at the little one who doesn't even know what he's ask of her “ alright.I'll tell you if you tell me yours, but you have to swear that you will not tell anyone unless I tell you it's okay” the boy nodded his head hard not even noticing the magic in her word nor did she though “I swear!!” She stuck her hand out magic focusing on her palm, as they shook hands a deal was formed the magic snapping it tip shocking both of them with the zap it sent through them. They both paused and look at each other's hand in confusion ‘ oh clever child you have magic and don't even know it did you, my beloved is bound now to you and can not break that promise ever unless you break it first’ the realization hit them both li harder then luffy because she understood more then him
“I didn't know I could do that I'm sorry” lami knew deal.were a big deal her ma do them explained to her that every fae could do some kind of magic as long as they had enough stardust in their blood she said they had a lot cuz her gran and pa on both side had stardust in there blood. “No you shouldn't be it i can keep.your sercet and you can keep mine!” The excitement of a little boy eased her worries. “Ok as long as your ok” she leaned in to.whisper in his ear “my name is Trafalgar D. Water lami, keep it safe” the name settled on lufu's Tommy and on his heart, knowing that's where he needs to keep it. Until told otherwise. He mouthed it without saying it to get the feel of it moving and decided he loved how it felt and probably would love how it sounded once he was able to speak it. “Shishishi my name monkey d. Night fall came and went with the rush lasting longer then usual, once makino finally got out she was dead tried and want to take a long.soak in the bath but knew she had to tend to her kids first as well as take to the shore , maybe she could take a dip in the ocean. she knew the cove they usually went to was remote and luffy would love to splash around even if it was dark. He knew there was no fear for him in her waters. She was not sure about lamb but she was a other, a fae like her lu , so she assumed that mimi has love for the ocean even if not her mother's.
Makino knocked on luffys door before entering to find lamb reading to her lu in that language she only knows. She has the blood but its not strong she was adopted by tio garp after her mother died, she only a quarter enough to still understand but only barely. “Aww isn't this sweet thank you lamb,but I feel we've left the ocean waiting too long. Grab your swim trunks lu a old shirt I feel like a soak, lamb do want one of my old shirt to play in the water?” lamb was spooked little by the knock at the door but once you rise, who it was she relaxed. Assume did find ice. She has a manila to soak properly in the ocean since before the fires and the sickness.
Lu jumped up almost immediately rushing to go get his swim drunks and a T-shirt to swim in while lamb followed makino to her room, so she could find something appropriate that she could. Wear it well at the beach. ‘ oh clever, one, I'm sorry But because of that curse, you no longer can swim in mine or any waters’ the oceans sweet voice edged with pity and sorrow flow in to her.ears crashing down on her like the tidal wave.
“ Curse, what curse? What do you mean? I cannot swim in your waters, not even my mother oceans?” her words spooked makino causing her to stop her showcase of blouses, knowing that the other child was hearing things that she could not‘ that is because of me, my dear .mother ocean, and the eastern ocean know that you had to eat me so you could survive and make it out of that h horrid. place, but rules are set for those who consume a fruit such as me and those rule cannot be broken for just anyone, even if they are favored by sea’
Tears will to her eyes as the memories fled back to her of the last conversation that she had with her mother ocean. The memory's hazy. ‘ It is true, clever, one. You cannot swim in my sea. Most will become weak and sink, if they are too deep for you, the ones that are favored by the seas will only sink as me and my sisters do not want to do you more harm, then we already are. Once you return back to your mother's sea, she may still allow you to float given you are the last of her beloved, but that is for her to decide.You are not mine, but you are dear nonetheless, so you may play in the shallows, but do not tread farther’ the tears had already fallen as a realization of sinks.In does, she may never swim in the beloved sea again but she held hope that once she return her mother would allow her to float in her embrace again. For now she would make do.
‘Lamb dear.is everything alright?” Makino sweet voice pulled her back ahe sniffled “ i-i ate a fruit before I came here.it call to me saying that it - it would help me be free and -and help get better but- But because of that, ocean mar says I cannot swim in any waters any longer…but she-she saying she's not mad but its just the rule so-so I can only play in the shallows or I'll sink” lami explanation was broken throughout for sniffles from d obviously distraught young girl makino knew what devil fruits were and the trade that one had to make for it, but a child, they did not know they couldn't know.
Stealing yourself makino lower herself to lambs level taking her eyes away from her eyes.So not to make them more swollen than what they were “don't worry we'll stay near the shallows and ill take you out and hold you like I do luffy so you and have a proper soak to, let get you changed yeah I think this blue one with the flowers will.do you nicely. Liam sniffled some more, but let her change her in 2. Blue flowery, blouse, and only flinched a little when makino made the barest of faces because of her spots.
The ocean swooned even more knowing that her lovely, it would hold fast. It was a clever little thing, so she could still enjoy her waters with out the threats that the ocean would bring her, even though she didn't want to. For these rules, we're a century old, and they could not be broken yet easily. The only one that they would be broken for was their most beloved as they knew a part of him, it was locked away in one of those cursed fruits.
Mar as well as all the other oceans knew very well that the fruits were not curses. Really?
But blessings taken from them forcefully by the false gods. So it was only natural that they would want them returned to them, even if it meant taking one of their beloved. A little too early.
Once the little family was dressed and ready. They made their way to the secret little cove behind the bar , luffy rushed ahead excited to spend time in the water. The ocean greeted them happily, already dredging up the prettiest of seashells, sea glass and pearls alike for her lovely.
Lami stayed close to Makino found herself worrying one that she never had before of what would happen if she went too far out. “Slow down lu i know you're excited but I cant come out with you yet so stay close to the tide pools ok sweety.” luffy pouted but did as he was told.staying close but still going farther then any other 3 year old should be able to, the ocean moving around him bring little fish and crabs for him to play with.lami and makino stayed near the shore picking up the dozens of sea shells and other shiny thing, lami doesn't she's ever seen this many seashells and pearls, i've been placed before.
“ there a lot to night I'm not sure why there always to many at this cove but I'm not going to bite the hand that feeds me, if you find some you put it in the basket we can make jewelry out of it for you later. I didn't make jewelry out of a lot of it, so my keeps on my tend to sell.” Makino was sitting at the edge of the water picking through sea glass piece as she let the water smooth over her tired feet and legs aost.as if trying to soothe her, and it did. Lami had a feeling why there were.so many pretty thing here but kept to herself giggle that sound like bells rang out.
Makino was shocked at the sweet sound but decided she liked it and resumed her bathing and sorting, letting the ocean calm her nerves and aches as she soaked in the night air. Then all the sudden something heavy brushed past her , she opens her not realizing she close them looking around to locate her kids and found more or less were the where before with lamb a little farther down the shore looking particularly, the pretty set of clams that probably have pearls in them and luffy a little farther than what she was comfortable with in the water “lu come a little closer please” ok was called back over the wind with a giggle following closely after.then heavy object brush pasture, again, this time, a little harder, going all the way up, perfect, close to your ankle. Looking down she found a leather tote tied shut but almost bulging from it's contents. The ability to see in the dark.was one of the few thing she kept for the other blood in her vein and one of those useful.
Plucking the tote from the water she marveled at how heavy it was and how the gentle waves could have pushed it all right to her. Opening it she marveled at the amount of berries and a bracelets, and even it looked like fabric of some time. “Oh my how did this get out here this is enough berries for a month maybe two months worth of extra funds and oh look at the jewels on this bracelet and the fabric it would make a lovely headscarf hum i should find the owner.of this even if it is very pretty” the wave came a little rougher at that ‘no they are for you lovely , tell her clever one tell her they are a present tell her clever one.” lami giggle again at how whiny the ocean sounded, she came over makino sitting next to her looking at the ocean's present “ she says, it's for you a present. You should keep it wear it it's look pretty” lami felt at the fabric feeling how soft it was “ohh soft i'm definitely keep it” makino made a humming noise “ I mean it it was given by the ocean i don't see how and can say no, suppose I could wear the bracelet as an anklet, so not to show it off and the fabric is very soft. Plus with an extra month to feed the extra money would help.” Luffy came crashing over “ marmar said it your so it your” luffy joyously added on and he was right .
“You're right I will keep it, but enough of that now I feel like a nice soak. How about you?” Both child nodded excitingly makino started to gather them up but stopped “can you ask it i will still float if I have lamb on my stomach like I do with lu?” Luffy jumped at that “ she mean like otter!! There makino favorite” the breeze rushed passed th sounding like a laugh even makino ‘ yes she will just hold her tight as not to loss her my lovely’ both children grinned “she says yes” lami comment shyly.
Setting all their treasure to the back so the ocean would take it back (like she would even dare) and gather both lami and luffy one her hips so she could hold them as she walked out she ended up tying one end of the headscarf to lami hand and the other to her own just in case. She knew luffy could float without help but liked to be held so this was just precaution for her little lamb. They started to wade out.
The ocean was gentle as ever she felt the wave pass around her slowly let herself float on top once got deep enough shifting lamb to on top of her and luffy to her side close enough to still considered holding. “ mmmh this is ~yawn~ nice” lami was tried her body felt heavy but not in a bad way “ you can sleep I'd you're tired little lamb I'll tuck you in once your home” makino rubbed circle on her back as the float point out constellations and explaining their story's to luffy.
It didn't take much; they were both out no long after leaving makino to soak in the silence peacefully. Late at night this close to the ocean herself in-between sleep and wake was the only time makino could hear the ocean. Usually it sung her to sleep but tonight it felt like sharing ‘ oh my lovely thank you for caring for our beloved, you don't understand what she has been through.” Makino hummed to show she was listening ‘ she is the last of her blood family, only her brother left and he is still in danger. She has a disease, one the bastard in the government caused those falses gods caused it and then to cover up their tracks, erased it. I'm destroying all evidence of the island she was from and of her home.’ “ Language” Makino groggerly said sea spending giggles passed over her. A wave came by feeling like a hand brushing the hair from her face then what felt like a kiss was pressed to her lips as she fully fell asleep. ‘Rest lovely ill keep you in our cove safe and sound’
