Chapter Text

Can we really face and defy fate? Is fate just a force that imposes on us or protects us?

These were doubts that sometimes crossed Jon's mind, especially when he saw Damian stare into space when he thought no one was looking. They had been married for over 10 years. Jason tried to get closer to his husband again for quite some time, until he only started seeing him from a distance. Jon wasn't stupid, he saw Jason's longing and passion, he saw how he was dying to be where he was today. But if he could be sure of one thing, it was Dami's loyalty. She would never break a promise, and that day at the altar they promised fidelity.

He liked to think that was enough, that the assurance of never being left behind would make up for just getting a gentle affection from her gaze. Seeing Damian happy was his greatest achievement and what he worked hard for day after day. Maybe it was just a way to feel less guilty.

Why he could set Damian free and make sure that Jason would appreciate him properly, he confirmed firsthand that Jason had changed over the years, from having one-night stands to fill the void that Damian left him, he became a celibate who would only accept breaking that state if it was with his other half, he began to take an interest in helping shelters in honor of Dami, he never missed an opportunity to see him or talk to him no matter how brief, he even adopted the other's vegetarian diet. But Jonathan was only human, and his selfish desire was to build her husband's happiness himself, not just be a footnote in his life, but an indelible part of it, that talking about Damian is meaningless if you don't talk about how much you loved him and that you accompanied him until the end of your days.

For him, Jason could kneel and beg her to give him back his other half, and she would only laugh in his face for being so naive, only an idiot would let go of the fiery and devoted soul that was her husband, as long as he wasn't the villain in Damian's story but his guardian, he couldn't care less about other people's opinions and yes, he was referring to Damian's family, who assured her that it was safe to let Jason and Damian be together now, that now Jason had learned his lesson and would truly appreciate it, but that wasn't his problem, Jason had his chance and lost it, he would gladly watch him writhe in misery while he himself was paraded beside Damian in front of the world, he enjoyed it a lot when he told her husband what was being said behind his back and put everyone in their place, they left him alone after that.

But on times like this when they were in the comfort of their home and he saw Damian longing for something that wasn't there, with his hand on the bracelet that linked him to Jason, guilt swirled in his stomach, did he really beat fate? The universe? Jon shook his head and pushed aside any thoughts that made him uncomfortable, he approached where Damian was sitting, put his arms around his shoulders, rested his head on his and kissed the top of his head, absorbing the smell of his shampoo, giving him comfort.

-Is everything okay, darling? You seem odd

-Yes... I was just admiring the rain

-Good, don't forget we have dinner with your family in a few hours, we should use those matching sweaters that my mom gave us for Christmas

 Damian made an annoyed pout

-They're horrible, your mom gave them as a joke-

Jon looked at him with pleading eyes knowing full well that Damian's guilt for thinking about Jason a few minutes ago would make him accept

-Good... But don't think that look will always get you everything you ask for- he was always defeated by his husband's pleas, sometimes he wonders if there is anything he could deny the person who has taken care of him since they met

-It has worked quite well for me so far- his smile was confident, sure of knowing how to treat his partner- It's not my fault that you like to please me so much

They both kissed quickly with affection, in the end fate and what was right or wrong were never going to separate him from Damian, he would cling to him tooth and nail if necessary, like he had done these 10 years.

Notes:

I finally finished!!

Look, it turns out I just found out about the whole fiasco of Jonathan and Jay's relationship while I was writing this and to be honest I have beef with Jonathan, he has almost disappeared from my baby's life! So that's the explanation of why it took me 1 year and a half to finish the last chapter, if someone was waiting for the conclusion, I'm really sorry for the delay, and... I know it wasn't a really happy ending, but again I blame Jonathan and being a jerk when he grew up, what was it hard for him to be as charming as when he was little?

I still love Jondami fics but my heart is more with Kondami, so much so that I have published fics of them, I invite you to give them a chance

I will surely be editing all the mistakes that the fic had due to my bad translation because English is not my native language

I thank anyone who finished this and I hope you enjoy it.

Notes:

This will have few chapters and just to clarify this is fiction and relationships with age differences do not seem healthy to me, there are exceptions, but do not date someone older and avoid suffering
