Chapter Text

The sky over Kitakami burned with pink hues as evening fell when Florian gently knocked on Kieran’s bedroom door.

“Can I come in?” he asked softly.

Kieran, curled up on the bed and surrounded by half-open notebooks, barely lifted his gaze. His eyes showed the exhaustion of sleepless nights and thoughts that looped endlessly.

Florian entered without further ceremony and placed a small box wrapped in blue paper on the desk. “I bought your favorite Pokélitos in the plaza. I thought… maybe they’d cheer you up a bit.”

Kieran sat up clumsily. “Y-you didn’t have to. I’m fine, really.” His words sounded weak even to himself.

Florian sat beside him. “I know things haven’t been easy lately. If you want to talk, I can listen. And if not, I can just sit here in silence. I just… don’t want you to feel alone, Kieran.”

A lump formed in Kieran’s throat. He swallowed hard, trying to keep his composure. How could he explain that Florian’s mere presence lit up everything? Instead of responding, he took a small cake and bit into it in silence. A crumb stuck at the corner of his lips.

Florian chuckled softly and, without thinking, reached out to wipe it away. The touch was gentle but enough to set Kieran’s skin on fire. “There… all clean,” Florian whispered, too close.

The world seemed to pause. Kieran could hear the beating in his ears, an anxious drumming that demanded he take a step forward. But insecurity gripped him: what if he ruined it? What if Florian pulled away?

Florian gently took his hand. “You don’t have to carry everything on your own, you know? I care about you, Kieran. A lot.”

The honesty in those words ignited a flame in Kieran’s chest. Fear and insecurity mingled with a torrent of gratitude and longing. Before doubt could stop him, he leaned in and timidly brushed the corner of Florian’s lips. It was a light touch, almost a whisper, but enough to charge the air with tension.

Kieran pulled back immediately, his cheeks burning. “S-sorry, I…” he stammered, fearing Florian’s reaction.

Florian blinked, surprised, then smiled sweetly. A faint blush on his cheeks made Kieran’s heart race even faster. Without saying a word, Florian leaned in and returned the gesture with a small kiss on Kieran’s cheek, right near the edge of his lips.

“Thanks for trusting me,” he murmured. “This… makes me happy too.”

The silence that followed was filled with a new warmth. Kieran looked down, unable to contain the smile spreading across his face.

Outside, the first stars appeared over the mountains. Florian laced his fingers with Kieran’s. “Do you want to go out for a bit? There’s a hill where you can see the whole sky. We can bring the box of cakes and keep talking… or just watch the stars.”

Kieran gently squeezed the hand that now felt so secure and nodded. “Yeah. I’d love that.”

They walked the paths of Kitakami under the cool evening breeze. The sky, now a deep blue, gradually lit up with the first constellations. As they climbed the hill, the silence between them was comfortable, as if everything said before had created a new, stronger connection.

Florian held the box of treats, and Kieran walked beside him, his heart pounding wildly. At one point, when they reached a narrower part of the trail, their hands brushed again.

Kieran hesitated… but this time, he didn’t pull back. With his face flushed, he interlaced his fingers with Florian’s. He said nothing. He couldn’t.

Florian glanced at him and smiled. He gently squeezed his hand, as if saying: I’m here. I won’t let go.

They reached the top and sat together on the grass, the town lights twinkling in the distance like fireflies. They shared the cakes, talked about little things, and laughed more than once.

For the first time in a long while, Kieran didn’t feel the void consuming him. In that moment, Florian was his entire world, and he was willing to protect that little happiness with everything he had.

The wind rustled the leaves, the stars shone above, and two hands remained silently entwined beneath Kitakami’s night sky.

Notes:

I’m back jsjjss.
Honestly, this fanfic had been pretty abandoned, but thanks to the lovely comments I decided to pick it up again haha. This chapter is a bit short because I had to reread the whole thing since I didn’t remember much lol, and I decided to give it a softer tone so Kieran could be happy (for now jsjs).
That said, I’m working on a lot of new projects and I’m going to be more active :3.

Notes:

kieran is a super simp.
