Chapter Text
The first rays of sunlight filter through the open window and cause Cody to open his eyes, blinking against the light.
He glances around the room, noting that he's already alone.
He swings his legs over the edge of the bed and stands up, stretching before heading out of the bedroom and into the kitchen.
On the counter sits a cup of black coffee that Cody grabs before stepping out onto the porch.
Obi-wan is sitting on the rocking chair outside with a book and a cup of tea in hand.
Cody leans over and tilts Obi-wan's chin up and presses a soft kiss to his lips.
“Good morning Cyare.” He mumbles with a small smile. Obi-wan smiles up at him and leans into his touch.
“Good morning Cody, did you sleep well?” He asks, a wave of fondness washing through Cody from their mental connection.
“I always do when you're by my side.” He says and sits down on the normal chair on the porch.
The sun is just rising and the orange light illuminates Obi-wan's face in such a way that it makes Cody's heart race in his chest.
He quickly sips his coffee to cover it up but he knows that Obi-wan already felt it anyway. He hears the stifled chuckle next to him and shoots Obi-wan a small glare that has no real heat behind it.
“When is Skywalker coming over?” Cody asks and glances over at Obi-wan.
“He and Padme want to be here any minute now but you know how long it takes them to get Luke and Leia dressed and ready.” Obi-wan says with an amused smile and sips his tea.
Cody snorts and shakes his head.
“Trust me, I know. I tried to dress them once, it was an absolute nightmare. That's why we won't be having kids.” He says sternly and sips his coffee. Obi-wan just laughs and nods while flipping a page in the book.
“As much as I love Luke and Leia, do I have to agree with you, dear. I think we're best off on our own.” He says with a smile.
Cody nods and sips his coffee slightly.
“Have we already gotten a transmission from Ahsoka? It's been a few days.” Cody muses and glances over at Obi-wan.
“No, not yet. She's still out there with her Padawan to help the freed planets build their economy up again and get rid of the last separatist supporters.” Obi-wan says while looking at the rising sun.
“Right, she's grown up so fast, hasn't she? It feels like yesterday that she complained about not accompanying us when took down Palpatine. She pouted for weeks during the sith hunts.” Cody chuckles and also looks over onto the scenery of their dwarf planet.
It has taken them a while to settle down after Obi-wan finally decided to leave the order once they managed to apprehend the last sith and freed the few leftover planets under separatist control.
After they arrested Palpatine, the whole system underneath him crumbled.
It was only a matter of time and persistence to catch the spiraling sith.
At that time it was revealed that Padme is pregnant and her marriage to Anakin became public. Which of course Obi-wan, Ahsoka, Rex and basically everyone else had no idea about. Entirely clueless.
The Jedi council had a meeting about the situation and in the end, Anakin was honourably released from the order due to his contributions to the war.
He and Padme then moved to Naboo where she gave birth to twins just soon after.
Obi-wan remained in the order for about a year after this incident before announcing that he would be leaving the order due to a conflict of interest regarding his vows.
The Jedi council was shocked, yes. But they accepted his decision nonetheless.
He and Cody left together and moved to their little dwarf planet with a population of barely a few hundred people.
Their life has been relatively peaceful ever since. Occasionally the Jedi council will still contact Obi-wan to get his opinion on a situation but otherwise they live their lives with little to no interruptions.
They get visited by Anakin and his family, Ahsoka or Cody's brothers when they have time to stop by.
Ashoka remained in the order, even taking on her own Padawan a few months ago.
She's still as cheeky and determined as ever, trying to change some of the dated rules the Jedi have from within.
It's a peaceful life and Cody wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
“Ashoka really has come a long way. I heard from Plo that they are considering granting her the rank of Master.” Obi-wan says while sipping his cup of tea again.
“About time if you ask me, she definitely earned it.” Cody notes and mimics Obi-wan, taking a sip from his coffee.
Obi-wan nods slightly.
“That's true, she's a formidable Jedi and her Padawan is coming along very well.” He notes and rocks slightly in his chair.
Just then do they hear the rumbling sound of engines in the distance. They both immediately look up to see Anakin's ship approaching and landing on the grass field in front of their house.
“Looks like the Skywalkers are on time for once.” Cody says with a small grin, watching as Obi-wan stands up and approaches the ship.
The ship powers off and opens in the back, allowing Leia to shoot out of the ship and launch herself at Obi-wan.
Obi-wan laughs and holds her tight while Padme steps out of the ship with Luke on her arm and waves over at Cody.
Anakin also steps out of the ship and greets Obi-wan with a hug, laughing at Leia who pouts when the attention isn't on her anymore and tugs at Obi-wan's beard.
Cody just watches the scene with a smile.
He couldn't imagine being happier. Obi-wan is happy, the war is over and they can finally be together.
Life couldn't be better.
