Guys, college apps are killing me. I wrote this a while ago and thought I’d add more. I’ve decided to post this as chapter 1 and someday I’ll make a second chapter, i promise 😭! But, for now enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Oscar had just been enjoying the afternoon, reading for pleasure on the quad. He had set up his own little picnic blanket under the shade of a tree and gathered some snacks. It was amazingly peaceful… until it wasn’t.

Oscar had been so focused on his book he hadn’t noticed a rather intense game of frisbee starting just across the main walkway. It had started out contained, but escalated as people joined in.

Suddenly as Oscar finished a chapter and went to turn the page, he saw a shadow cover him and before he could blink, a body was falling on top of him in a less than graceful face plant.

“Ughh” Oscar groaned as he tried to sit up. That really hurt his back, he’s not going to lie.

“Oh, shit. I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” The person laying on top of Oscar asked as he pushed himself up and stared.

“Yeah, I’m- I'm fine.” Oscar said, fully sitting up and blinking. His eyes focused on the man crouching in front of him. All golden skin and piercing sea foam eyes. Those of which happened to be very big and full of concern at the moment.

“Are you sure? I really didn’t see you. I was running backwards trying to catch a frisbee. Fuck, it’s stupid. How can I make it up to you?”

Oscar just stared at the man right in front of his face. He found the concern and the rambling endearing. Did this man just run him over? Yes. Was Oscar mad? Not even a little bit, for the man was handsome, cute, and super adorably sorry.

Oscar realized he hadn’t answered when the man’s frown deepened a little.

“Maybe, dinner? Or like money? Or, uhm, I’ll do you homework? Actually you don’t want that, I’d get it all wrong.” The man listed, cursing to himself at his foolishness.

Oscar spoke up when his trance was broken. “Dinner sounds nice, there’s this place I’ve been meaning to go to, but I haven’t had anyone to go with.” A small, shy smile spread across his face as the man perked up.

“Dinner? Sure, here. I’ll give you my number. Just let me know when you’re free. I’m Lando by the way. I’m truly sorry for all this.” Lando said, pulling out a little notepad and scratching his number on it.

He quickly ripped the paper and handed the bit to Oscar.

“Just let me know, I’ll see you then!” Lando said as he stood abruptly.

“Um, I’m Oscar!” Oscar said as Lando walked away back to the frisbee group with the frisbee in hand. Oscar felt a little silly calling his name out like that, but he had a date with the goofy, handsome man and it made him giddy. Sue him.

Now all that’s left to do is text him. That’s scary.

“Oscar.” Lando said softly to himself. That’s what pretty man he had just pancaked called out. A warm smile spread uncontrollably across his face.

As he got back to his group, he suggested moving the game to a less busy area. The group agreed having seen the incident with Oscar and moved down the quad toward the math and science buildings. Nobody really said anything, but all could see the blush that sat across Lando’s cheeks as they walked.

The game quickly resumed, but Lando was not paying attention at all. His mind was still stuck on the cute guy reading on a picnic blanket 300 feet away. With his swoopy hair, and the moles dotting his face and neck, he stuck in Lando’s head and didn’t budge. It was so bad a frisbee smacked right in his forehead and he swore he didn’t even feel it.

All he could do was wait for that text.

~~~~
It came 3 hours later, around dinner time actually.
: hey, it’s the guy you ran over earlier, Oscar. Just wanted to let you know I’m free tomorrow if that works :)
: this is the restaurant I mentioned btw (link here)
It was good, great even. It didn’t have Lando freaking out and getting uncontrollable butterflies in his stomach. Not at all. He was the picture of calm as he replied back.
: that’s perfect, I’ll meet you there at 6?
Super calm and collected. Yup. It’s not like Lando threw his phone across the room after sending that message.
: great, can’t wait!
That was Oscar’s reply. Can’t wait! Holy shit, he can’t wait? Neither could Lando. He was practically vibrating with excitement. When had this man elicited so much emotion from him? He had no idea. All he knew was that he could fumble this date under any circumstances.
He needed a bit of help.
Notes:
Comments are always appreciated. Maybe it’ll get me to write the second chapter :,) let me know what you think!
