Chapter 4

Summary:

Sorry for the late chapter, I was so busy with class and work, then my mental health dropped but I promise to start updating more now! Anyways, enjoy this new chapter. I tried really hard but I don't have a beta reader and I'm not the best with grammar or spelling so I'm sorry if there are mistakes. I tried my best to catch any that I did make however! The next chapter I write will probably be for my other fic, however I'm going to try to balance both fics out equally. also enjoy the new POV I thought I would look at someone else and how they're reacting to the story instead of just peter for the whole time I tried my best to keep Damian as close to character as possible But tell me if I did it wrong. And tell me if you enjoy this new change of pace with a different point of view!

Chapter Text

Damian was worried which was unusual, well specifically what he was worried about was unusual. Being worried came with being a vigilante, especially a Gotham vigilante of course, but if he were worried all the time he wouldn't be able to get his job done.

The subject of his unusual worry was a boy, a civilian he met on the rooftop of a dilapidated building. The interaction was quick but the way the boy looked was… graphic to say the least. If Damian hadn't heard the kid talk he would have assumed a murder had taken place. The boy’s stick thin frame had made Damian worry that the boy would be blown away with the wind and the way he looked so exhausted.

Sadly Damian couldn't stay with him having to go and save some foolish drunkards from a fire that they had started, but when he got back to the cave he immediately started to look in the kid. Of course he hadn't gotten the boy's name but childish things like that had never stopped him especially when facial recognition was so much more useful.

Or it would be useful if Damian could find anything on the kid. Hours of searching and the only thing he could find on that child was a hospital report and an incomplete police report since the police couldn't actually talk to him so it was just the same info as the hospital…useless. Though now he had a first and middle name but it meant little if no one had reported Peter missing. Before Damian could research any further he heard footsteps coming closer. Quickly he exited his tabs, as much as he trusted his family he wanted to keep Peter a secret at least till he knew more about the situation.

“ Hey brat, what are you still here for? Patrol ended a while ago.” Tim’s voice sounded behind him.

“None of your business Timothy, and do not call me such childish things like brat.” Damian responded, getting up to face Tim.

“Uh-huh, sure whatever.” Tim rolled his eyes taking a seat in front of the computer.

“Tsk, what are you working on Drake?”

“I’m looking for what Bruce is working on.” Tim turned and smiled “ A few days ago Constantine and Zatanna called an emergency meeting, when Bruce came back he looked pissed!” Tim thought for a minute “Well as pissed as Batman allows himself to look” He shrugged and turned back to the computer.

“So now you're trying to figure out what made father so mad?” Damian questioned.

“Yep!”

Damian shook his head and turned to leave up stairs, he had no time to get caught up in Timothy's foolish games. If the father was so upset by it that meant he didn't want anyone in the family involved and any who got involved and got caught would surely be benched. Damian had no time for father to bench him especially when he was looking into someone.

Upstairs he made a beeline for his room, dealing with Drake's foolhardiness was enough and he had no energy for the rest, unfortunately it seemed the universe was not as kind as he ran into Richard, his arms already opening to give him a hug.

“Dami! There you are!” Dick exclaimed a smile on his face.

“Richard, I have no time to deal with you, what do you want?”

“Awww don’t be like that!” Dick whined before laughing, “ I just wanna know if you've seen Tim, I want him to look into something for me.” He smiled.

Damian sighed a pure look of exhaustion on his face, “ He’s in the basement already, is that all?”

Yep, thanks Damian!” Dick ruffled his hair before heading to the cave.

Damian could already feel a headache at whatever shenanigans those two were about to pull and the trouble it would get him in. Whatever he had other things to figure out like Peter Benjamin ( no last name for now) and how to get the child to trust him. Peter looked pathetic like a stray kitten and as much as Damian loathed to admit it that did pull at his emotions a little. Plus just as mother always said he was like his father, so no one could get mad if he wanted to take in a ward of his own.

He just needed to get Peter to agree with it, and possibly Alfred to make sure everyone else stayed in line. Yes Damian had more or less gotten used to having siblings but at the end of the day he was raised like royalty, sharing was always something he was going to struggle with.

Maybe he should tell father about the grievously injured boy he saw, or ask Timothy for help on getting more information about him, or even ask Duke or Richard on how to help the boy emotionally, but this was his. He wants to help Peter, he wants to be his hero. Even if it was a selfish desire and to be fair Damian had never been the best at shoving his selfish desires down.

He sat down on his bed and took a deep breath. It’s fine if it got to be too much he would immediately tell father and he wouldn't let it go too far. Damian would never actually put a civilian in danger at the first hint of it he would raise the alarm. He laid down thinking over a plan in his, after all there was no way he would jump into any mission without one. Damian closed his eyes and let out a slow steady breath, for some reason he felt that this case was not going to be as simple as he hoped. But that's never stopped Damian before and it wouldn't slow him down. He was Damian Wayne, He was an Al Ghul, no one and nothing would get in his way.

Damian opened his eyes and looked at the clock, it was late he should probably get some sleep especially if he wanted to get his plan started.
