Chapter Text
Roman huffed. He leaned on a tree and listened attentively for any sound that could indicate where Virgil ran off to.
After a few seconds, he heard the crunch of the leaves. He ran towards the sound, stopping every few seconds to look around and make sure he was going in the right direction, if not, turn and continue running.
It eventually led him to a beach, and he saw Virgil there, his sobs pierced through his heart by how painful they sounded. He carefully walked up to him and tapped on his shoulder.
Virgil sniffled and looked up at him.
He sat beside him and looked into the dawn sky. “Virgil,”
Virgil hummed, as if saying ‘what?’
“I love you.” He said, smiling genuinely. “This might sound crazy but, I'd like to join you by your side.”
Virgil wiped his tears with his hand. “What?” He sniffled. “What do you mean?”
“I want to be with you for eternity.”
His eyes widened with surprise, finally understanding what he meant. “But– you have so much to live for.” He said, confused.
“No, I don't.” Through that smile he'd been wearing this entire time, Virgil could see his pain.
“I– but…” Virgil couldn't find the right words to say, he didn't know how to react.
“I know what I'm talking about. Do you trust me, Virgil?” Roman said, he was being as genuine as he'd learned to be. “I truly believe I'm making the right decision here.”
“If you're entirely sure about this, then yes.”
It'll take some time, but he'll find a way to do it. Right now what matters is that he has Virgil by his side, together, as they were always meant to be.
Roman grabbed Virgil's hand, holding it tightly. “I bet the stars are going to be so beautiful tonight.” He said as they watched the sunset.
Virgil smiled back at him. This was everything he'd ever hoped for and feared of. But unlike before, the side of himself that loved Roman was stronger this time.
He was glad to have the person he loved and trusted the most by his side, ready to be together for eternity. This was what was supposed to happen before he decided to give everything up, to be with roman until death separates them. Except this time death is what will bring them truly together.
They were put into this world for each other, but they couldn't find a way to make it happen while they were both alive. They'll be together in another world, and, in a way, that's just how things were always supposed to be.
