The First Night

Chapter 2

Summary:

Shadowheart’s POV at the end of the night.

Chapter Text

Shadowheart fixed her bedroll from where she’d thrown the blankets off, silently dropping back down. Through half closed eyes, she watched the elf- Rhian- sitting on the other side of the fire; she brushed her fingers across her neck, brow furrowed.

Shadowheart couldn’t guess what she was thinking, and wasn’t sure she wanted to know.

Yet- they’d known each other for only a handful of hours, and she’d been close to telling her, about her team, the mission, the artefact.

She shook it off. It wouldn’t do to get distracted, to trust her, no matter how disarmingly sincere she seemed to be. They had a common goal for the foreseeable future: remove the tadpoles. Once they could do that, she could get back to her mission of returning the artefact to Baldur’s Gate. She didn’t need to lean on her for anything more, to delve into secrets best left untold.

She caught Rhian glancing her way several times, checking up on her- or making sure she wasn’t about to pull a blade again, more likely. Shadowheart flipped over so she couldn’t see her.

She needn’t get involved further- no matter how pretty she was.

Notes:

hmmm not much to say. eigh!

I will say- I play this game the most fuckass way possible. The first long rest is in fact usually only Rhian and Shadowheart. And the next several Rhian, Shadowheart, and Lae’zel. And eventually I collect everyone else. But it’s like. Not quickly. So.
Lae’zel ends up third-wheeling for a bit lmfao
