Touya: Glad to support her. I still dream about that chocolate espresso mousse cake.
Natsuo: No way! The pistachio rose is where it’s at. Nezuko and I already went back to the bakery to get some to bring to her parents.
Fuyumi: I think the lemon elderflower cake was the best!
Shouto: All wrong. The matcha was the highlight.
Touya: I think the matcha tasted better in the cookies.

Touya: Uh. Well, tbh, the party isn’t really my thing. I just want to be married to you and move into the next phase of our lives together.

Touya: I’m sorry if I’ve sounded like I don’t care. How we get married is just less important to me than that we do.

Touya: No memes, I’m genuinely confused and upset.

Touya: So Keigo and I have been doing pre-marital counseling, right? Making sure we agree on all the essentials. His parents recommended it.
Touya: The thing is, we still haven’t decided if we want kids or not. And the counselor seemed to think it was a red flag.
Touya: Like if we ended up disagreeing down the line, it could ruin our marriage.
Touya: What do I do??? All I know is I want to be with him for the rest of our lives and come home to him and be his emergency contact and make shit like that.
Touya: We’re only 24. How are we supposed to know if we want kids??? All we know is each other.
Touya: Are we rushing?? Should we wait??? I don’t want to wait though. But I don’t want to mess things up if one of us wants kids and one doesn’t.
Touya: What the fuck do I do???
Fuyumi: Oh fuck. I’m so sorry. It sounds like the counselor was a real bitch.
Touya: She’s a professional relationship counselor though. I feel like she knows what she’s doing.
Natsuo: I think I have the solution.
Natsuo: So I’ve been trying to become a better ally, which means I’ve been doing some research. “Gay-search”, if you will.

Natsuo: So I started watching this show about gay firefighters in America in some place called Texas.
Touya: NATSUO.
Natsuo: Just hold on!
Natsuo: So the firefighters couldn’t agree on having children, so they got a lizard instead.
Fuyumi: I’m so confused.
Shouto: I think he’s onto something.
Natsuo: The point is, they compromised.
Natsuo: They chose each other over what the future may or may not be.
Natsuo: You guys are choosing each other too. You’ll find a way to compromise.
Touya: I never want him to compromise on anything he wants though…
Shouto: What about you? You might be the one compromising.
Touya: I guess….
Fuyumi: I think what they’re trying to say is that it’s okay if you don’t know right now. Your relationship is strong enough to withstand any changes or differences you have.
Natsuo: Exactly!
Shouto: I’m still confused about where the lizard fits in though.
Shouto: Natsuo, we should watch this show together.
Natsuo: On it!
Touya: I have to think about it. I really hope you guys are right…

Touya: Hey Dad. You busy?
Dad: No. What’s wrong?
Touya: How did you know?
Dad: Just a hunch.
Touya: Right. Well, Keigo and I don’t know if we want kids in the future, and I’m worried maybe we’re rushing into things and maybe we’ll change our minds and end up hurting each other.
Touya: I don’t know what to do.
Dad: I see.
Dad: Did you know I wanted to be a painter?
Touya: Huh?
Dad: When I was a young boy. I wanted to be a painter. Study in Rome. Paint murals like Michaelangelo. I was good at it too.
Dad: But my family had no money. My classmates used to describe my family as gutter trash that would never amount to anything.
Touya: What the fuck????
Dad: Being a hero was the way out of that. I gave up everything I wanted, so I tried to want something new.
Dad: Didn’t get that either. Never became the number one hero and never will, especially since I’ve slowed down.
Touya: Why are you telling me this?
Dad: Because when life took away my two biggest dreams, another dream came true that was even greater.
Dad: You. You and your mom and Fuyumi and Natsuo and Shouto.
Dad: The greatest thing that ever happened to me was my family, and you were the one that helped me realise it all those years ago. I’m not even sure you remember much of those years, but it changed everything.
Dad: What I’m trying to say is that sometimes, dreams don’t end up coming true. You give up. You compromise.
Dad: And then, if you just open up a little, you find a dream that you didn’t even know was yours for the taking.
Dad: You may come to disagree. One or both of you will have to give things up. But life is full of dreams. And you’ll have someone by your side to live them all with.
Touya: You mean that?
Touya: We’re really your greatest dream?
Dad: And more.
Touya: Fuck.
Touya: I didn’t know that.
Dad: I ought to say it more often. I wish I was better at it.
Touya: We know you love us. You’re an amazing dad.
Touya: Thank you. Thank you so much.
Touya: I love you.
Dad: I love you too.
Touya: BTW, do you know where I can buy a plushie?

Keigo arrived home that day to a bashful Touya standing in their living room with his arms behind his back. “Hey hot stuff. Whatcha got there?”
“Can we chat for a minute?” Touya asked.
“Is this about the counseling?” Keigo asked, sitting down.
Touya followed him, still holding something out of sight from Keigo. “Yeah.” He took a deep breath. “I’ve felt so scared all afternoon, wondering if we were rushing into things because we didn’t know if we would have kids and whether that could ruin our marriage.”
“I thought you might be,” Keigo said. He squeezed Touya’s knee gently. “But I need you to know that nothing else matters besides you. I will never want anything more than I want you. No matter what.”
Touya leaned forward to kiss Keigo briefly and smiled. “I know. You’re what matters. And I think whatever happens, whatever we might have to change or give up or face in the future, we’ll find new things to dream about and reach for. And we can do it together. But you will never not be anything but my greatest dream come true.”
Keigo held Touya’s face in his hands. “I love you. I can’t wait to marry you.”
“Me neither,” Touya said. His eyes were slightly watery, but, looking up, so were his future husband’s. “I got you something, by the way.”
“Oh?” Touya nodded and brought his hands around to reveal his gift. Keigo took it, happy but confused. “It’s very cute! And squishy. But why did you buy me a lizard plushie?”
Touya chuckled. “Because Natsuo has been doing gay-search.”
“Huh?”
“Man, I’m not sure I understand either.”
