Chapter Text
It had been almost half a year since Touya had become part of the small group of children living in the slums. Some of his hair had once again turned red, making him look like a mix between chilli and salt.
Keigo and Touya were in the process of training their quirks.
Touyas burns were close to fully healed and his body had somehow started slowly resisting the heat. Not only that, some of the kids in the slums were insanely smart. They taught Keigo and Touya how to use their quirks in ways neither of them had imagined.
Somehow, both of them had managed to get a position to participate in the U.A entrance exams, meaning that it was training and just training from here on out.
Some of the older kids in the slums had slowly started getting jobs, earning for them so that they wouldn’t have to steal. That was why Touya and Keigo were training as hard as they were. Though it wasn’t the best reason to become a hero, they needed the money.
Touya wanted to make sure some of the younger kids could get a proper education like he had…kind of. But he still knew more at their age than they did.
Keigo wanted to make sure they could still feed all the mouths, especially since everyone was growing up and more kids were ending up in the slums.
Another plus of U.A, it looked great on a resume. If Keigo and Touya could get in they’d be able to apply for jobs and have a higher chance of being accepted.
“Shit! Touya, that's hot!” Keigo yelped, as Touyas attack grazed his wings.
“Sorry!” Touya yelled back, narrowly missing Keigo's feathers flying at him.
“Surprise attack fuc|<ers!” They heard a voice yell as a broken glass bottle was thrown at them.
Touya instinctively swept his left arm through the air to let out fire…except no fire came out.
Touya and Keigo landed on the ground, dumbfounded, Tsuki, who had thrown the bottle also stared, gobsmacked. All the other kids were frozen in place, mouths open, staring at what Touya had just done.
“Ice…” Touya gasped out. “I made ice!”
“How?!” Keigo yelled.
“I don’t know!” Touya yelled back. “But it’s fricking amazing!”
“How?!” It was Tsuki that screamed this time.
“I can fight Keigo without harming his wings! It’s amazing!” Touya screamed, a smile working its way onto his lips.
Everyone noticed Keigo’s blush but decided to ignore it. Well everyone noticed but Touya, he’s a bit blind.
“Wait, wait, wait!” Tsuki said, holding her hand out in front of her. “I get that it’s amazing and all but like how? How did you suddenly turn into Elsa?”
Touya looked at her. “I…don’t know.”
“Hmm, that’s interesting, maybe it’s because of how your body was before?” Tsuki said, muttering as she walked away to find her notebook.
“No…it’s not that.” Touya whispered to himself.
How was he meant to tell her that it was because he was Todoroki Enji’s son.
Keigo crawled over to where Touya was still sitting. “Thanks for thinking about me first, how sweet of you.”
Touya rolled his eyes, “It just slipped out monkey.”
“Oh so you were thinking about it?”
“Shut up nerd.”
“Okay Tou-chan!” Keigo said, blowing him an exaggerated kiss before helping him up.
~~
“The entrance exam is tomorrow,” Keigo whispered from one of the beds in the many abandoned houses the kids had taken over, “How are you feeling?”
“Excited but also like I want to puke,” Touya replied from his place in the futon on the ground, “You?”
Keigo exhaled, “Like I can kick Endeavor's non-existent ass.”
Touya snorted. “Anyone can do that.”
“Yeah but no one does it.”
“So what?”
“So I can actually do it.”
“Right, sure.”
“Hmph, what a buzz kill.”
“There’s no buzz when you’re involved Hawks.”
“Oh my bad, I forgot you don’t know what fun is, Dabi.”
Touya huffed out a little chuckle. “Night Kei, have sweet dreams.”
Keigo smiled from his place on the bed, turning to look at the ceiling like Touya was doing, “You too Tou-chan.”
~~
“HEYYY LITTLE LISTENERS!”
And now they were here. Separated by a skinny guy who smelt like shit, on the stands filled with middle school kids about to take the U.A entrance exam.
Touya tried to pay attention to the loud blonde, uhh, the older loud blonde, he really did, but he couldn’t be bothered. He just hoped the practical examination wouldn’t be too hard. He had done great on his written examination, at least he guessed he did because that paper was the easiest 3 hours of his life, although he supposed that didn't mean much considering what his life was like.
“TIME TO HEAD TO YOUR GATES THEN LITTLE LISTENERS!”
“Well shit,” Touya muttered, he had no idea what the heck they were doing.
“Touya we’re in the same gate, let’s go.” Keigo said, grabbing his wrist and shuffling out of the stands, walking towards a large red gate.
“How do you know?” Touya asked after they had moved away from the buzzing crowd.
“Idiot, our tags are the same colour.” Keigo said, letting go of his wrist now that they wouldn’t be separated.
Touya looked down at his tag, they both indeed had a red tag matching the colour of the gate they were now standing in front of.
Touya looked around, he spotted the smelly kid, a green haired guy who had been 2 rows in front of him, a weird ginger smiling dazedly at the sky who had been sitting on his right, and a yellow blonde doing handstand splits who had been behind him.
Touya looked at Keigo and noticed he was looking at the same people.
“Imagine we end up as classmates with those four,” Keigo said, after he had noticed them all.
“Hopefully not the smelly one,” Touya said, scrunching his nose at the thought.
“Touya!” Keigo reprimanded, slapping Touya’s arm.
Touya just laughed and started warming up.
“What’s our task?” He asked.
“Figure it out yourself,” Keigo said, letting his feathers out of the charmed necklace he had.
People behind him had to step back to avoid being hit.
“Wanna work together?” Touya asked.
“Sure,” Keigo replied, stretching his wings.
Touya looked at him, midway through a lunge. That was surprising.
“It’ll benefit me,” Keigo said.
Touya nodded, that made sense.
“LITTLE LISTENERS, ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, GOOOOOO!”
The gates opened and the students rushed in.
Touya boosted himself up with his flames, not wanting to get trampled, and Keigo flew up with him.
“Holy fricking yes.” Touya said, letting a crazed smirk overtake his face once he saw what the obstacles were.
Keigo rolled his eyes.
Elemental giants.
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. (lOnG aGo thE FoUR naTIoNs lIVeD iN HarMoNy)
“Ha! It’s like this exam was made for me!” Touya screamed, laughing out loud, some of the people on the ground who heard him looked up in confusion until they saw the fire and ice coming out of him.
Touya’s hair was on fire, while his hands were freezing the air around him.
He smirked once more before boosting himself to the closest giant, water.
“Oh this is going to be fun.”
~~
It was nearing the end of the exam, only a few large giants were left standing.
Touya looked from the top of a building, Keigo standing beside him.
“Were you counting?” Keigo asked.
“Nah, you?” Touya replied.
“Would I ask if I had?”
“True.”
“Shit!” Keigo yelled, the building was suddenly shaking.
Both him and Touya jumped off. Once they were steady, they turned to look at the building–err elemental giant– and just stared.
“Well fu–!” Touya was cut off by a scream.
Both of them flew down to ground level to see the green guy from before trying to pull the smelly kid out from underneath a pile of debris, he was passed out and there seemed to be blood around him. The greenie was coughing because of the dust and the smell, but trying nonetheless.
Touya went over and started making a block of ice under the debris in hope of lifting it up, while Keigo started to take off as much of the debris as he could.
“Touya! Go! The giant’s getting closer, I’ll handle this!” Keigo yelled.
Touya glared at him, “Don’t strain yourself!” He yelled before boosting himself towards the giant.
As quickly as he could he started burning the ice giant. It was bigger than the rest of them meaning he would have to use a hotter flame.
He had somehow managed to keep all his flames blue, to keep him from being recognised by Endeavour, since his dad didn’t know about the blue flames.
But now he’d need to use the actual temperature of those blue flames.
“Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” He screamed, it was really hot.
Suddenly all of him was on fire.
“Shit.” He muttered.
Touya lost control of his flames and started falling, luckily the ice giant was destroyed now. Unluckily, he was about 300 meters from the ground.
“Fucl<.”
Touya lost consciousness about half way down, luckily turning off his damned flames.
Keigo had finished getting debris off the smelly kid when he heard the greenie gasp.
He turned around to see Touya falling through the air.
“Shit.” He said.
Keigo flew as fast as he could, catching Touya and trying his best to not let Touya’s momentum take over.
When they landed safely on the ground it was just Keigo, the greenie, passed out smelly kid and passed out Touya, with a bunch of other students slowly crowding them.
“You deal with it,” Keigo said, before collapsing on the ground next to Touya, god his wings hurt.
“Uhhh,” The greenie chuckled awkwardly, turning to look at the growing crowd of students.
“Fml.” He sighed.
~~
“Who are those kids?” Aizawa Shota, a new Pro Hero, who would be teaching his first class next year, asked, after seeing the red gate exam.
“All I have on them is their given name and that they’re from the…uhh slums.” Yamada Hizashi, another new Pro Hero [and Shota’s boyfriend] said.
Aizawa nodded. “They’re names?”
“Touya and Keigo, that’s it, no last names, Touya has a dual quirk of fire and ice, ice was added recently as it was a late blooming, Keigo has wings that he can sharpen and soften as he likes, he can also compact them into a singular small feather on a necklace he wears.” Yamada recited.
“I see,” Aizawa said mentally filing that for later, “I want them in my class.”
Yamada turned to look at him, “Shota, you’re teaching 1A, as a new teacher too–”
“They both tied for first either way Hizashi, I want to see if they have what it really takes.” Aizawa said, sighing. “And it’s not like you’re not a new teacher either.”
Yamada chuckled, “At least I’m not teaching 1A.”
“Blame it on Nedzu.” Aizawa said, shaking his head and walking out the observation room.
’I’m strangely buzzing with excitement.’ Aizawa thought to himself.
“Oh god! Eraser, you look like your mum died!” Kayama Nemuri yelped as she walked by him.
’I guess my face doesn’t show it…’ Aizawa sighed.
~~
“Keigo…”
“Touya…”
The two looked at each other.
“Holy cow…” Tuski muttered as they all stared at the two holograms in front of them.
“We got in!”
“You got in!”
The next few minutes were full of screaming and laughing and smiles. And tears. But it was the happiest a lot of them had felt in a long time.
Touya’s chest shuddered as he panted, his eyes turning glossy. He stared at the hologram with a soft and hesitant smile.
“I did it…” Touya whispered to himself.
He had done it. Without Endeavour. Without his training.
He looked up at the hologram again, this time with a proud smile. Touya was proud of himself.
And just like that his smile disappeared. He stared at the hologram. Turned around and walked away. Anywhere that was away from there.
“What…? Touya!” Akihiro called after him.
“Kei-nii-” Akihiro was cut off by Tsuki’s hand on his shoulder.
Keigo looked in the direction where Touya had gone. He could guess what Touya was thinking. And, well. He couldn’t say that what Touya was thinking was exactly wrong.
“I’ll be back.” Keigo said.
~
“Whatever philosophical thing you have to say to me you can keep to yourself Keigo,” Touya said, throwing a rock at the wall of an old run down house, “You know I’m not wrong.”
Keigo walked towards him, picking up his own handful of rocks. “Never said you were.”
Touya's shoulders deflated, and he seemed to curl into himself. “So it is my fault?”
Keigo sat next to him on the ground, parallel to the house. “Never said it was.”
Touya turned his head to look at Keigo. “Then who’s is it.”
Keigo continued to look at the wall, throwing his own rock. “Endeavours.”
Touya sighed, looking at the wall again. “I’m the one who didn’t take him.”
Keigo threw another rock, this time harder. “Endeavours the one who abuses him.”
Touya turned to look at Keigo. His mouth opened slightly. He was breathless. Such a simple thing. One he had told himself countless times. One he had never believed. Keigo had said it with such certainty. With such nonchalance. Keigo continued throwing rocks, but occasionally he would glance and Touya’s breathless figure to gauge his reaction.
In Touya's eyes there seemed to be a new glow around Keigo. The other boy had always been one who caught people's eyes but Touya was unable to move his eyes away from the winged boy.
A single tear slipped from Touya's eyes.
“Ah,” Keigo exclaimed quickly hugging Touya.
Touya remained breathless in his grasp. His eyes seemed to brighten and he gulped down some air, so that he would be able to hug this boy, this…this…
‘Angel…’ Touya thought to himself, closing his eyes as another tear slipped out, wrapping his arms tightly around Keigo.
‘I’ve met an angel…’
~~
Weeks passed by in an odd way, as if the universe was reflecting Touya's anticipation with a sprinkle of anxiety. Some days would float by, like autumn leaves drifting on a river, others would fly by quickly, leaving Touya behind as he attempted to make sense of the world.
Soon enough the new school year had started. Touya looked at himself in the mirror, the U.A uniform, just ironed, fit him well, complimenting his lean figure, the colours clashed softly with his pale, but fully healed, skin.
Touya was beyond nervous, U.A was a school full of heroes, and undoubtedly one of them would know his good for nothing father, the man who had single handedly destroyed his life.
He didn't know what he would do if endeavour found out, if anyone found out. He had no desire to return to the Todoroki estate, he liked it in the slums, picking out whatever house he wanted, spending time as he wished, eating whatever he felt, being with whoever he wanted to be with.
It was a poor and painful existence, but at least it was a free one.
“Touya? You ready?” He heard Keigo’s voice speak from the other side of the door.
“Yeah…” Touya said, adjusting the ugly red tie one last time, “I'm ready.”
