Chapter Text

"Hey, Chance. What's this?"

Red swore that the chest was not there the last time she had entered the box. It was a treasure chest right below the Wall of Hero minis, a stereotypical thing that Red imagined every time Chance mentioned chests in their G&G sessions except for the round plate it sat on. It also didn't have the big, hard to pick locks Chance put on his chest in game however, perfect for opening.

"Hm? What chest-DON'T." Chance suddenly said.

Red already reached for the chest. The seam between the lid and the body of the chest split into a horrifying grin, revealing sharp teeth. It opened its mouth and moved to snap-

"I SAID DON'T."

The mimic blinked purple slit eyes that had sprouted on the body of the chest. It glanced at Chance and then Red. It inched forward.

"I said no, Chester."

Chester let out a whine and pulled back, looking with a face that screamed Chance never let him do ANYTHING. Red stared dumbfounded. Chance meanwhile moved to scratch the faux wood lid of the mimic. Chester made a yipping noise, kicking one of the corners of his chesty body against the floor.

"Is that..."

"This is Chester, my faithful companion." Chance explained. Chester yipped again, panting a long poined purple tongue. Green drool dripped on the floor as it bounced around Chance.

"Ah..." Red trailed off, staring at the mimic. The same kind of mimic that nearly killed her character in their G&G sessions. The same kind of mimic that almost ate her arm.

"What?"

"Nothing. Um...does he bite?" Red asked.

"Oh. Oh! No...I mean a little but he's just playing."

As if to prove that point, Chester nipped Chance's sleeves and pulled. Chance chuckled and gave his sleeve a shake, laughing as Chester growled and tugged harder. Red could only watch with more confusion.

"But, he's a mimic."

"What? No. Mimics don't exist. Chester is a token retriever." Chance explained.

"But...but he's a chest with a mouth."

"A token retriever does have similar capabilities to a token retriever. They both like to mimic what they see. Chester just happens to see my G&G collection a lot." Chance explained. He moved to Red, taking one of her hands. "I swear though. He's harmless. Watch-"

Chance gently took her hand in his, leading her to the panting token retriever. He placed her hand against his surpringly goopy body. Red patted his head, making its body jiggle.

Red let out a giggle. "Oh, he's silly."

Chester yipped, the ripples in its flesh continuing. Chester melted partially, making the bottom of the chest start to pool in brown puddle.

"Is he-"

Chester suddenly popped back up. He still was a chest but now he sported a chest sized Fantastic Red Shirt tm. Chester yipped again at her, waiting for praise.

Red let out a proper laugh. "Oh I fear I love him."

Chester's body wiggled in excitement. It barked and hopped up against Red's legs with it's front corners. Red scooped him up, finding he was surprisingly light.

"He's mine now." Red decided. She moved to the dice bag nest. Chester was just excited to be included, his goopy body melting against her in contentment. She was able to tuck them both into the terrian blankets and dice pillows easily, his goopy body a surprisingly warm weight against her. She could fall asleep like this if she wasn't careful.

"Hey wait. What about me?" Chance asked, his brown eyes going big behind his glasses. He pouted. "I want to cuddle too."

"No one is stopping you." Red said, making grabby hands at him. Chance didn't need to be told twice. He slid into his dice bag nest next to her, wrapping his arms around her. Red sighed in contentment. Chance gave her a little smooch on the top of her forehead, completing the requirements for a perfect cuddle.

And then, Chester decided to lick her forehead as well. Red pushed him off, settling him on her other side.

Ah, yes. Perfect cuddle sandwich.
