Summary
Lord Voldemort isn't a good person, Harry knows, probably best of all people, but Harry can also see where the man—being?—is coming from. Dumbledore literally came into an eleven year olds life and set his only belongings on fire, sure he stole the majority, but still. This kid was in the middle of a muggle war and the coot sent him into an abusive and dangerous place. So, yeah, Harry understands, and his story is correlating with the Dark Lords way too much to his liking.

Albus had a twinkle in his eye as he watched the letter unfold in neat scroll work made out from Harry Evans-Potter of Number 4 Privet Drive, pleased to have the boy respond so quickly. Seems Petunia had told him something after all.
Then he stopped, stunned as he looked at the words reflecting back to him.
'Dear Headmaster Albus Dumbledore,
I regret to inform you I have already made plans for the school year, and have bought my books for something much more local.
I appreciate your letter, and wish you a good day,
Harry James Evans-Potter.
Severus, passing by to set the receipts down for the potion ingredients needed for the school year, looked curiously what had the old man gaping like a fish, and snorted.
Or, the Dursleys are a Respectable Family, raising their nephew to embrace a muggle life instead of feeling a need to flee from it.
