Chapter Text
Dess stood just inches away from her front door, the only thing she could focus on were his eyes staring right back at her.
“Yeah, alright, just let me grab something from my room.”
Beyond the door frame her mother sat on the couch drinking a cup of hot chocolate.
“It's late, why are you just now getting home?” The thick tension she created just by her words alone was enough to crush a building.
“I was working on a group project at Asriel's… guess I lost track of time.”
“Well I didn't make your dinner plate so-”
“I'll just grab something to eat at azzy’s!”
Dess ran up the stairs into her bedroom. Piles of clothes and random objects were scattered across the floor, amongst the junk sat a small box beside her dresser. She rummages through it before shoving something in the pocket and running back downstairs.
“What did I tell you about walking away while I'm talking to you?”
“I ran this time!”
She swung the front door open to reunite with Asriel and the two walked out into the night.
“Soo whatcha wanna do?”
“Oh I honestly didn't think it through all the way. I just felt the need to say something.”
“You of all people *not* thinking. I think your brain finally blew a fuse dude.”
“You got any ideas then?”
“Of course I do, I'm chock full of them.” Dess had that mischievous look on her face again. Asriel was a little on edge but whatever she had planned could be *that* bad.
Beyond the array of trees was a lake, piles of leaves sat quietly in the water while the moon's light sparkled down on it. Even the wind barely made a sound, it was quiet. Too quiet.
“Watch this.”
Dess picked up a rock on the ground and threw it into the water. It sank to the bottom almost instantly.
“I think you were trying to do this.”
Asriel picked up a rock and threw it into the water. The rock bounced across the surface of the water until it was out of sight.
“You see, the key to stone skipping is actually in the stone itself. If the stone is too bumpy it messes with the hydrodynamic pressure the water creates. So you gotta get it nice and smooth. Of course there's also the speed and angle at which you throw that helps with the friction-”
Asriel went on and on about angles and physics; his rants were enough to kill a cow. Dess finally put it to an end. She reached into her pocket and spoke out to Asriel with her usual playful voice.
“Hey. I know you don't like it when I do it but.., wanna try?
She waved around a box of half empty cigarettes in her hand trying to compel Azriel to let loose just this once.
“A little couldn't hurt.”
“Was this your idea…?” His demeanor started to tense up again. Asriel never paid any mind to her smoking habits but she's never asked him to join her.
“Yeah,I just thought you should mellow out a bit, and this is what helps be so…”
“Fine. But just this one time. Dess pulled out a cigarette and put it in Asriel's mouth before grabbing one of her own. Asriel was scared, terrified even the only thing he could do was focus on her eyes. That's what kept him together.
“Dont move, kay?”
“Mhm…”
Dess pulled in close and pressed her lit cigarette against his, filling the air with smoke.
“Alright, first you're gonna wanna inhale.
Asriel used all his force to inhale, nearly swallowing the thing.
“Not like a damn vacuum cleaner!”
After she showed him the ropes they spent what felt like forever lazying around on the ground.
“Okay, actually it wasn't as bad as I thought.”
“See man, you just gotta mellow out. We should definitely get going though. My mom might actually lose her head this time. She's always tweaking over the smallest things.”
“Haha yeah…” Asriel paused for a moment while coming back to reality."
“MY MOM! I didn't tell anyone where I was going. She probably thinks I'm dead in a ditch somewhere…”
“And you went and tensed right back up…” Asriel shot up from the ground and ran off towards his house in a frenzy.”
“Azzy! Wait up, take one for later, you can have my lighter.”
Oh, uh thanks..see you in class tomorrow!”
“Later loser! Wait, tomorrow's Saturday…oh well he's already gone”
Running through the dark empty roads Asriel finally reached his house completely out of breath. Oddly enough the front door was wide open. Entering the house the first thing he noticed was Kris sitting on the couch.
“ Hey bud… now I know this looks kinda bad bu-”
Kris picked up their hands and started to sign “You’re fucked dude”
“Where have you been?” Torie stood behind Asriel towering over him. Not much could make her this upset so he knew this might be his last breath.
“I was just-”
“Decembers mom called and said you two were here having dinner, I don't remember that happening, I never even heard you walk through the door.
The following lecture he received wasn't a pleasant one and it certainly didn't help with stress relief. He was sent to his room unable to think about anything for the rest of the night.
