Chapter Text

Turns out he could, he was so stupid. What had made him think he could go and take the creative player on his own!? He found the room, but Recallingman teleported to him, fighting him and draining his resources. The fight was intense, Nufuli was more skilled than the other but the voidling switched between gamemodes and that made it tricky to do any damage.

The creative gamemode player talked about how he wasn't the villain, how he was doing this for his own good, he kept monologing the entire fight thinking Nufuli was paying attention. He wasn't.

Nufuli couldn't accept it, not yet, not ever.

He still had to avenge Dimofyy and prove himself to Loonac to gain his trust back, he just had to keep dodging the others attacks. But it didn't matter, because in the end he got too careless, too cocky and he got stuck in a spiderweb, this was it. This battle wasn't winnable, he realised it when the voidling broke his chestplate, Dimofyy's chestplate. It felt really cold all of the sudden.

Recallingman lifted the mace above his head, and flew to the top of the room so he could kill Nufuli in one hit, the guardian knew this was it, no armor or totems left, this was his end. He waited for the other to finally end his life as he closed his eyes, but it didn't come. It was like the other had vanished… or teleported. A private message from Loonac surprised him, it read “U good?” and he knew the other had something to do with what had just happened.

A loud piercing sound spread throughout the room, Nufuli scrambled to get his com on the other side of the room, a call from Loonac was accepted as soon as he got his hands on it. If the other did what he was thinking…

“Bro, What did you-” He questioned the other quickly before cutting himself off.

He heard the snowman let out a small giggle on the other side of the line, “I knew you would do something stupid.”

“And I couldn't handle the thought of losing you.”

“Dude! What happened to you?" Loonac exclaimed as soon as Nufuli arrived at the base, his voice was stained with worriedness, "Why are you half naked?”

Nufuli sighed, “Remember when I said I would pay it back to you, didn't I?" He saw Loonac wince as he stepped towards him, did he distrust him that much? Unbeknown to the guardian, the snowman winced as he saw his injuries that weren't there before. If Loonac had gotten there sooner he could have stopped the other from getting hurt. His expression fell at Nufuli's next words. “I honestly thought I was going to die.”

“Bro,” Loonac said dejectedly, he stepped towards Nufuli this time. “Why would you not tell me?” He questioned the other, “Makes no sense..” because if it did, why would Nufuli put himself at risk like that.

“I-I just,” Nufuli stammered, his arms closing around the shorter one. Loonac was cool to the touch, makes sense the other was a snowman afterall. “I couldn't put you at risk like that again.” Oh. Oh! No way Nufuli was blaming himself for all that happened, right? When did he even- his thoughts were interrupted by the guardian.

“Like I got you killed and Dimo banned,” Nufuli squeezed him tighter, not enough to run out of breath. Loonac melted into the taller one's embrace, Nufuli was really warm. “I couldn't even kill Recallingman.” the guardian let go of the snowman stepping back.

“Yeah, but you almost died.” Loonac told him firmly but not unkindly, his voice wavered too.

“I could have killed Recallingman…” Nufuli repeated, as if trying to convince himself instead of the snowman.

“Right, you could have,” He didn't really enjoy physical contact that much but Nufuli needed him now. Loonac leaned against the guardian, offering comfort and grounding the other. “Could have died too.” he reasoned, trying to make the other realize just how much was on the line.

“I'm sorry Loonac.” Nufuli said, but he didn't hear it.

Loonac sighed this time, “Next time, please tell me before you do anything, bro.”

“Next time?”

“Knowing you there will be a next time.”

The two talked for a long time, about everything and anything. They shared everything with each other, just like before. Thanks to that, Nufuli realized that Loonac didn't lose trust in him, Loonac was simply worried for him. The guardian's own guilt had blinded him, and made him forget that Loonac was mourning Dimofyy too. Even worse, he was there when the white dove died and he couldn't stop it, not like he could do anything anyways. Nufuli's heart ached for his best friend's wellbeing.

He was brought back from his thoughts when Loonac said he had a way to kill Recallingman. His friend guided him to the first voidhole they had made together, it was changed now, there was another room built out of chiseled deepslate and inside of it there were chests but most importantly, a enderpearl stasis chamber and a nether portal.

Loonac started to explain his plan, It genuinely blew Nufulis mind. One of them would jump into the void with lots of god apples to survive the void damage, the other would go to the control room and teleport Recall to the player in the falling in the void, then that player would race back and pull the stasis and get the other player out of the nothingness.

And just as Nufuli suspected, Loonar would be the one jumping in the void while he dealt with Recallingman. It was hard to accept, Loonar was the only one he had left so he had to make sure all worked according to what they were planning here.

The two of them got to work and raided multiple ancient cities and trial chambers getting over a stack and a half of enchanted golden apples combined.

_ _ _

This was it.

Their last chance to kill Recallingman and continue on with their lives.

Loonac jumped into the void letting it drag him down until he didn't see the bedrock anymore. The infinite black mass was cold, freezing, and that was saying something considering he himself was a snowman, constantly running cold.

Both of them were in a call, Loonac could hear how the other raced to get to the nether, Nufuli pearled through the portal and instantly the server crashed, it would stop them not now, not ever.

He could hear how Nufuli yelled at himself to be faster so he could get the snowman out of the terrifying abyss. He could also hear the moment their target showed up and started to chase Nufuli down, until they reached the control room.

Loonac chugged the enchanted golden apples one after another, waiting a little in between for the extra hearts to go away with the void damage. So little time had passed and he was already down 41 apples, he only had one stack left.

The snowman hoped the other would hurry up instead of chatting with the creative mode player, he could only hear Nufulis part of the conversation but he was sure the voidling was trying to strike a deal with the guardian who didn't give a shit about whatever the other could offer.

Adrenaline coursed throughout his veins as he heard Nufuli count down, he teleported Recallingman to Loonac, a cold shiver went down his spine. And a weight on his chest lifted as he heard the others screams and then ban message. Now he could only wait for the other to make it back in time and activate Loonac's stasis chamber, and get him out of this wretched freezing abyss.

“Bro, we are cutting it close!” Loonac whined as he took a look at the twenty apples left on his inventory.

“Im coming, I'm coming , Loonac!” Nufuli yelled as he stepped through the nether portal, finally flipping the trapdoor down so Loonac would teleport up here…

But, he didn't.

The guardian only stared in horror as Loonac yelled for him to flip the trapdoor in the coms. “I-I flipped it bro!”

A cold shiver went through Loonac's body, he only said one word as he continued to fall farther and farther away from the world, from Nufuli, “Oh… I guess this is it, huh.”

“Loonac! I flipped it, I flipped it, I swear!”

The snowman only wished he could see Nufuli one last time, and say goodbye properly. Maybe even see the stars too, the ones Nufuli talked so much about. “Well,” he started, tears fell down his face, and hearing Nufuli's soft sobs on the other side of the call he knew the other was crying too. “It was nice being your teammate…While it lasted." He spammed the few fireworks he had left but it was too late, he was too far down to even reach the voidhole they had made.

“Please don't blame yourself, Nuf.”

Nufuli fell to his knees as he saw the death message, his soft cries turned into full sobs and hiccups. He needed Loonac and Dimofyy by his side and neither of the two were here, not anymore.
The guardian reached for one of the chests, the one which held all of Loonac's things and took his friend's chestplate and put it on, the red trims felt oddly fitting now. Next he grabbed Dimofyy's debug stick and clutched it tight against his chest without breaking or bending it and cried.

His friends were gone, and now he was alone.

Just like everything started.
