Chapter 2: Panic room

Summary:

Rags has a bad time :)

Notes:

I said probably one chapter. I lied. I’m too interested in the perspective of this character for just one chapter.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Rags strolled out into the hallway, her classic sh** eating grin plastered across her face. She stopped in front of Gangle’s room. Pulling a key from her overalls, eternally grateful for the extra pocket space cartoon logic provided her, and swiftly unlocked the door. She looked around the space and scoffed. Her eyes glanced over to the sketchbook which laid open in the desk. Her face turned a furious shade of red. An anime style sketch of herself in the maid outfit stared back at her. Of course Gangle would draw that
Rags stormed over, snatching a marker from the desk and covering the drawing with ink. She loathed that absolute dweeb. Another burst of irritation coursed through her and she chucked the marker at the wall.
With her mood officially soured, Rags stomped out of the room. Or at least tried to. She didn’t notice her arm snagging against the door hinges. She tried to continue forward but the metal caught on her plush skin wouldn’t let her.
A wave of frustration washed over her. Gritting her teeth, she yanked her arm back. Her stomach twisted at the loud rrrippp that followed.
“F***!” Rags yelped, clutching at the tear across her arm.

The world seemed to blur around her as Rags stared down at the stuffing spilling from her arm. She drew in a sharp inhale. It came out as a shallow gasp.
For a second, Rags was frozen. Then she bolted.
Through the doorway, down the hall. Her mind was a mess, unsure where she was going or even why she was running to begin with. She couldn’t decipher what was happening, just letting her instincts control her as she raced forward, shoving down the colorful figure in her path without even a glance back to see who it was.
Rags rounded a corner, nearly falling from the speed at which she turned. She skidded to a halt in front of a door, taking no notice of the crossed out, smiling face on the placard. She fumbled to unlock the door, one mitten shaky, the other attached to a torn, understuffed arm. Finally triumphing over the lock, Rags shoved her way inside, rushing in to curl up against the wall.
Her breaths came out quick and ragged, leaving a dull burning sensation in her chest. She suddenly became painfully aware of the sharp stinging radiating from her arm. Why did it hurt so bad now? Was Caine messing with the pain sensors again?
For just a moment, Rags felt a little more regulated and she decided to see where she was. Why had her panicked mind decided that this was the right room to break down?
Rags looked up. She regretted it immediately, her eye widening as she took in the grassy shade of green that surrounded her. Immediately her chest tightened and she felt the panic seep back in.

Notes:

That’s all for this chapter (sorry it’s really short). I doubt anyone’s actually reading this but if you are, I hope you like my writing. Next chapter prepare for a different character perspective >:)
