Chapter Text
Jouno leads the students into the huge building, he hears mindless chatter, loud footsteps, as well as several fastly beating hearts. How troublesome. He hears All Might still blabbering on to the students about how powerful the hunting dogs are, and how much they will learn from them. Jouno wonders if All Might and Tecchou are related in some way? He starts to hear the faint familiar hum of Tecchou's heartbeat, as well as Teruko's faster one. It’s still different without the old man, yet Teruko still calls herself the vice captain despite his betrayal.
“Woah he looks so serious…doesn’t he, Momo?” Uraraka whispers to the black haired girl next to her, hands slightly fiddling in anxiousness. With her quirk Uraraka thinks she could maybe beat him in a fight, but that demeanor still freaks her out…
“Yeah, I suppose he does” Momo whispers back, hands interlocked with her girlfriend. Looking around the beautiful and clearly expensive building, meant to support weight or something else powerful…usually you only see those types of buildings in quirk training arenas, why do they need them in Yokohama?
Jouno grabs the doorknob based on memory, hearing the gasps at the large room. He’s aware of the advanced technology, and the insane amount of weapons in the room, plus the huge training arena where he and Tecchou usually end up destroying the turf or a pillar. He hears Teruko's head snap up eagerly, walking over, hand on her hip, based on the sound of nails tapping metal rhythmically.
“Students of class 1A! Welcome! Welcome!” she claps, a sharp sound eagerly. “We’re gonna whip you all into shape- Oh All Might! Lovely seeing you again!” she chirps, bouncing up and down slightly.
“Oh Young Teruko! I’m seeing so many people I haven’t seen in months!” All Might steps up grinning. “So what do you have planned for our students today?” there's a soft click noise as All Might's teeth click together in a huge smile.
“Oh you know typical military training!” Teruko laughs gleefully. “It’d be no fun to tell you all now!” she gushes. She looks around confused before eyeing Jouno down. “Jouno!” She barks. “Go find Tecchou! He was just here!” she groans, muttering something about Tecchou ruining everything.
“Yes Vice Captain” Jouno mutters, before following the faint heartbeat outside, he goes behind Tecchou’s figure before kicking him hard in the back, sending him flying a good 4 feet. Jouno smirks at the sound of Tecchou hitting the floor. “Vice Captains asking for you” He articulates. The soft shuffling of Tecchou getting up without even a comment annoys him.
“Oh, apologies.” Tecchou murmurs, walking slowly towards Jouno. Suddenly Jouno feels something sharp dig right into his foot and he jumps cursing.
“What the hell! You insolent ass! I told you to stop stabbing me already!” Jouno bickers, voice rising already. Tecchou just continues walking unphased by the yelling, Jouno following beside him still complaining.
“I told you to stop kicking me outside of sparring.” Tecchou replies bluntly, pushing Jouno's face away which causes him to get punched square in the face. Tecchou just pauses for a moment, so does Jouno before Tecchou huffs. “You could’ve hit harder. That was sloppy.” he comments and Jouno’s face goes completely red as Tecchou opens the door for him like a true gentleman. Ignoring the stares of the bewildered students at his bloody nose, and Jouno’s repeated yelling.
Teruko just stares at them both slowly getting angrier. “Seriously! We’re supposed to be training these kids! Instead you two are fighting like children, you go clean up!” She points at Tecchou. “And you!” she focuses right on Jouno who went quiet as soon as she started talking. “You’re going to be in charge of handling our first training exercise! The obstacle course you designed!” She’s pointing in his face despite being much shorter, Jouno pauses before smiling softly.
“Oh well, follow me left then” he murmurs happily, voice low and smooth. He smiles softly walking three paces to the left then shifts his body slightly clockwise before walking through another door. He hears gasps of horror, and that fills him with great delight.
You see, the design of the obstacle course was meant not to look too threatening but clearly a struggle, even for those who are decently trained, yet Jouno hid in secret traps, and other mechanisms to give them a much harder time. He loved designing it, using his blind friendly technology he was able to design it on his own then just have it built by someone Fukuchi hired. Jouno made this specifically with quirk users in design, heat/cold resistance, spikes on the ceiling to prevent flying, also puzzles you have to stop and pause to solve, not something you can just run through or use brute force.
Jouno turns around to face the large group smiling. “How about one of your teachers go first? A demo round?” he heard murmuring, and then picked up heartbeats. Amusing, he can tell these students aren't taking it seriously. They might believe it’ll only be a bit straining. Jouno chuckles.
All Might smiles brightly. “Here I'll demonstrate! It’s only right!” He steps up grinning closer to the closed eye man. “So! When should I start?”
Jouno chuckles looking up towards the voice. “You have ten minutes. Starting now..” a timer starts going on the wall above the room and All Might grins at the challenge beginning the obstacle course. First there's a rock wall, maybe fifty feet? All Might knows he could probably just jump powerfully enough to scale the rock, but he knows that wouldn’t be a good example. So All Might grabs the closest rock looking around, the rocks are spread out a bit, requiring good precision to make it. Suddenly his hand starts to burn horribly, welts forming.
“What the hell” All Might mutters, sweat dripping down his face suddenly jumping to the next rock on the wall, two feet up, this time it's a freezing sensation that greets him, his hand rips back at the sudden feeling of pain almost losing his balance. “Screw it” All Might mutters, launching himself all the way to the top using his quirk. He immediately hunches over sweating…he used too much of his Quirk just for this part. He’s been struggling to hold up with his quirk this long during the field trip already, at this rate he wont even last the full ten minutes!
9:45
There’s next a bar obstacle, maybe 75 feet across. Yet when All Might looks down there’s spikes covering the bottom…theres no chance to fall otherwise someone without a flying quirk would be dead. All Might dreads the thought of that, of one of these students even facing this. What type of sadistic “obstacle” course is this? All Might knows he could complete this easily, but he still feels worry for the students which slows him down as he leaps and grabs the fifth? No, maybe the sixth bar in the mechanism. He feels the bars rotating, he locks his fingers over his thumb to keep himself in firm place before swinging towards another bar. He grips onto this one as well a smile creeping back up to his face. This wasn’t so bad. He ends up at the end of it with exactly 8:30 seconds left on his time. He would have been able to do it quicker if he didn’t have his mental dilemma.
The next obstacle is a thin tunnel, claustrophobic for All Might but he squeezes himself in. He shuffles on his stomach trying to force his broad shoulders into the tunnel. He hears a sickening pop, but to keep an example he keeps shuffling. He’s been through worse fighting villains, he can’t be brought down by a military obstacle course. His shoulders burn, his chest is heaving, and he can hear his heart thumping, feeling his power draining too quickly. He grunts forcing himself through it in less than two minutes despite it easily being two kilometers easy.
He stands up gasping for fresh air, rubbing dirt off his suit, he didn’t even process there was dirt at the bottom of the tunnel. He smiles anyways trying to pop his shoulders back into place, trying not to show the amount of pain he’s in by power exhaustion and just from his injuries. The next obstacle is…nothing? He frowns looking at his time 6:15. That doesn’t make any sense? There’s a door at the end, possibly the finish indicator, it can’t be this easy though. His eyes scan over the walls. 6:13. Looking for any small buttons or grooves, but there's nothing too obvious. 6:10. He takes his first step then ducks on instinct, narrowly avoiding a sharp spear coming right at his head. So that's what game the Hunting Dog is playing. All Might grins running ahead easily jumping over and ducking when appropriate weaving side to side to avoid projectiles, bullets, and other knives.
He makes it to the door and frowns at the buttons with weird indents on them, no letters or colors just these dots protruding out. He gently runs his fingers over them, they are familiar but he can’t remember the exact code. Come on All Might…You’ve encountered so much harder codes, how can he not just remember this exact one? He presses one for experimentation and there's a bright green button that appears to the side with a few more of those dots “ ⠃⠥⠞⠞⠕⠝” he runs his finger over the bumps again. He then remembers a signing he did for a little girl. She had a long white cane and her pupils were shifting outwards. She was Six, her name was Himari, and she loved bright colors since she could see certain ones if bright enough. All Might remembers, and he signed on what he later learned was called a slate and stylus duo so the little girl could feel his name.
When doing later research because he wanted to connect better to his fans even those who are disabled he learned the girl most likely had a condition called Exotropia as well as some other cause which caused her blindness which he couldn’t nail down. It really opened his eyes to blindness as a spectrum, and he changed a lot of his products to be designed with those raised dots as words so even blind children could enjoy his products.
All Might tries to think back to Jouno, what would Jouno like to write here, he’s assuming it's already in alphabetical order hopefully. He thinks back to Jouno as a person, always kind of sarcastic, quick tempered, but also quiet around most people. He looks around for clues about what he’s supposed to insert there. He shuts his eyes before feeling around, he feels the cool temperature of the walls, he feels a soft gust of wind, he smells the clean earthy dirt on his clothes. Wind. He smiles, that's not natural for an indoor environment where clearly everything is intentional.
He runs his fingers over the alphabetical braille till he counts down to W. I. N. D which appears more as “⠺⠊⠝⠙” before pressing the green button and getting inside a simulation of a rough river. He frowns looking at his time. 3:58. crap, he took too long on that puzzle, his students will also be stuck on it if they aren’t aware of how the blind read. He dives into the river, maybe 3 kilometers in length, he fights against the current despite his weakened body. He frowns and dodges to the side before a rock comes rushing down the current, so he’ll have to be diligent. He frowns getting air, his costume feels tighter than usual due to the water and his hair is limp.
All Might feels the current dragging him back, almost like a power washer. He keeps kicking though narrowly sliding under a large log, His legs ache after a bit, the large current pushing him back as well as this being a great depth, usually All Might is better on the ground, although he has been trained harsher under the water, he just can’t use anymore of his power without burning out completely. He gasps feeling the murky bottom, soft pebbles, dirt, and something hard. He keeps swimming anyway, making it up to shore towards the final door…with a lock. 0:55. Where would a key be? He frowns kneeling down digging through the dirt looking for something, anything.
He suddenly leaps back into the water desperately. 0:34. He digs through the dirt ignoring the stinging as the dirt mixed with water gets into his eyes, and the burning sensation in his lungs, he ignores it diving for the hard feeling, he sees red in the water but he ignores it, ignores the pain in his fingers. He finally rips the box out and leaps out of the water and runs over to the door and unlocking it. 0:09.
“Well that took you long enough” Jouno comments laid back in a spinny chair. “Even Tecchou has beaten that faster.” He grumbles, smelling the iron in the air, oh blood. “Go clean up” he grumbles ignoring the panting and the gasps from students and worried kids checking on him. Quite dramatic. He hears someone's stomach and turns away frowning, one of his least favorite sounds. Teruko's happy laugh fills the room once she sees All Might.
“What happened to you? Aren’t you the old #1 hero? You should listen to Jouno and clean up!” She wipes her face dramatically pretending to cry from laughter. She claps All Might on the shoulder amused then wrinkles her nose because of the dirt. “I hope your students are able to precede you after this example” She makes dramatic tsking noises. “So who’s next!” She looks over the students who are staring horrified after seeing their hero struggling after that.
Bakugo steps up scoffing. “Ill do it.” He grins proudly. “All Might must just be having an off day, now that we know what to expect, it should be easy enough” He cracks his knuckles, sparks already flying off them. Jouno just grins opening the door, the timer starting as Bakugo runs in. Jouno hears a loud explosion and the kids gasping and talking. He tries to drown it out though. Teruko pokes him giggling.
“You’re annoyed?” She giggles clearly trying to irritate him.
“Must you be so childish?” Jouno mutters, pressing a button to speed up the rotation of the bars on the set, as well as to shoot quirk blocking tranquilizers at random spots on the obstacle, maybe he’ll dodge, maybe he’ll be hit. Jouno can’t tell yet, he hasn’t heard the needle go through the flesh yet.
“Well the Captain isn’t here and these kids suck!” She whisper yells a bit too loudly and gets a side eye by some red haired kid. “Quit looking at me like that!” She barks. “It’s true!”
“So you bother me instead, what about Tecchou?” Jouno asks, raising his head up to where he assumes she is. He hears Teruko’s heartbeat pick up in excitement.
“Awww!” she gushes giggling trying to pinch his cheek despite him moving away. “Of course you think of Tecchou right now!” She sees his cheeks flush red, she’d say it was embarrassment, though if you asked Jouno he’d say it was anger.
“What!” Jouno yells drawing attention from Aizawa who starts eyeing them down, Bakugo is banging on the braille puzzle trying to explode through the wall, which would have been amusing if Teruko wasn’t being such a brat. “He’s the only other person here! That doesn’t mean anything!”
“Where is Tecchou anyways?” Teruko asks, sitting on the edge of Jouno's chair much to his annoyance. She presses the flamethrower button based on Bakugo screaming in pain and Aizawa starting to yell at her to stop. “Oh dammit, we’ll come back to this” She grumbles jumping down. She barks orders at some medics she had on standby who end up wheeling Bakugo out for treatment.
“Why would you have flames in an obstacle course meant for teenagers?” Aizawa demands angrily, going up to the shorter woman. She scoffs unamused.
“You’re training pro heroes yet they can’t handle a little heat? Or just dodge it?” She shrugs. “Besides, it'll teach him to be more observant!” She grins, really not seeing the harm, they could probably put one of the ADA kids who are younger then them through this and they’d be fine!
“He probably has severe burns now! You could have killed someone if he wasn’t so heat resistant!” Aizawa's voice is rising genuinely angered at the thought of his children getting recklessly hurt.
“You signed waivers dude, maybe they should’ve read the fine point” Teruko grumbles. “But fine if you’re being such a baby, We’ll tone it back a little bit, no more fire.” Teruko huffs clearly not pleased. She points at some random kid who wouldn’t shut up about “Kacchan this” and “Kacchan stop!” as well as writing in some little notebook.
“You!” She grins as the kid flinches. “Yep! Your turn now!” She laughs and slams on the button that opens the door. “Timer starts now!” She laughs as the kid bolts in there dropping the notebook onto the floor which some brunette girl with a bob picks up for him. She then just skips back over to Jouno already bored seeing the kid mutter to himself through the glass while doing the freaking rock wall.
“So what were we talking about again?” Teruko smiles, poking Jouno’s cheek much to his annoyment.
“Must you touch me?” He asks, Eyebrows scrunching in annoyment, lips going down.
“Well of course!” She claps him on the shoulder. “It’s a team bonding exercise!” she wraps her arms around his neck trying to hug him, Jouno exhausted just accepts it so it’ll be over quicker. At least she doesn’t climb all over him like Tachihara.
Somehow three students end up with broken bones, several others with burns, bleeding, or bruised heavily. Jouno mostly listens to the complaints quietly, enjoying the students whining, while Teruko talks and makes snarky comments about performances, or just talking about random stuff, random gossip about people Jouno doesn’t even know, he’s pretty sure it breaks some sort of no discussing personal life rule.
Teruko, once finally the last girl, some invisible girl who you can only see the gloves of fails out at the braille part like 65% of the class, starts to talk about the next section of training excitedly. “So next is swordfighting! I’ve heard that for some reason your extracurricular sword fighting class has no one from your exact class? How disappointing.” She hums very dramatically for 3 seconds looking over the students before one who has a humungous bruise over her face which matches her hair for some reason raises her hand.
“Ummm, why do we need swords? Rarely anyone without a quirk relating to blades uses them anymore?” Jiro asks nervously.
“Well I’m glad you asked! To be a hero you need to be trained in all sorts of weaponry! Not just reliant on quirks!” She chirps happily. “Besides! Tecchou is our best swordsman and will help you guys with form and gentle sparring!” She claps her hands. “So follow me!”
They go into the large sparring room where Tecchou is doing pushups on the floor only using one hand. Kirishima's eyes light up at the manly display right in front of them.
“Woahhh” He murmurs and Denki eyes him curiously but doesn’t comment.
“Tecchou!” Teruko barks annoyed. The man looks up curiously. Finally standing up gripping his sword softly. Jouno raises a brow but doesn’t comment surprisingly. Tecchou stands up humming.
“Oh, well we start with a display of proper form and basic moves.” Tecchou murmurs calmly. He unsheaths his sword smoothly. “Jouno, Join me?” He murmurs looking right at him, despite knowing the other man won’t see it. Teruko makes a whistling noise grinning wiggling her eyebrows, Momo and Jiro make eye contact smiling, Jiro raises a brow and Momo nods softly.
Jouno scoffs at the opposite side of Tecchou. Teruko grins. “This is one of my favorite shows” She murmurs. Aizawa looks over confused. Tecchou’s stance is steady, knees slightly bent, feet lined up with his shoulders, Back straight, Jouno mirrors this.
“3…”
“2…”
“1…”
Teruko squeals happily as Tecchou bolts going for a Do-strike, blade going towards Jouno’s stomach, Jouno dodges sharply sword meeting Tecchous with a loud clang which makes Izuku's eyes widen in amazement. Teruko makes comments occasionally explaining the names of different dodges, some familiar as well as certain strikes which they’ve seen in movies but not often in person.
It’s almost like a fluid dance, clanging swords, sharp dodges, flexible movements, the walls despite looking so steady earlier dented by Tecchou landing a kick in between slashes, sending Jouno right into the wall, it dents with a horrifying thud, yet Jouno still gets back up and right back at Tecchou punching him square in the face. Tecchou grunts yet nearly slashes Jouno in the neck.
After five minutes Tecchou has Jouno on the ground, edge of sword pointed at Jouno's chin. Jouno scoffs, finally getting up, grabbing Tecchou's offered hand.
“So do you understand?” Tecchou asks the kids who have open slacked jaws.
Teruko is snickering. “I think we’ll need some one-on-one training.” Tecchou and Jouno haven’t unlinked hands yet but no one comments. Tecchou offers real swords to the children; they gasp in excitement gripping the handles tightly.
“That’s too stiff.” He comments looking down at Uraraka’s hold on it, fixing her hands not noticing her red embarrassed face. “Much better” he nods, looking back and seeing Jouno sparring with some kid with six arms. Interesting, should he be given three swords?
Mineta is talking and making comments towards Momo giggling reaching up trying to touch her chest despite being short. “Ohh come on Momo~ just one little touch, a little peek even?” Denki frowns trying to pull him back
“Bro, just leave her be” He smiles apologetically at Momo as Mineta is complaining about it just being “teasing” and just a soft flirt. Teruko frowns softly looking at Jouno who just walked away from Shoji.
“People like that deserve to suffer” He murmurs, smiling darkly, like he always does before making someone wish they were dead. Teruko just chuckles.
“Sorry Jouno, this one's mine.” Teruko frowns. “Justice comes before all.” She draws her sword before smiling and skipping up to Mineta, using her ability to appear older with a fuller figure, knowing he’ll be more interested. She smiles at Mineta sweetly. “You wanna spar?” She sees the drool almost dripping out of his mouth. Disgusting.
“Oh well of course! How could I not want to? with a beautiful lady, such as yourself!” He winks grinning. Teruko smiles while drawing her sword.
“Lovely.” She touches his shoulder using her ability to turn him back to age 5, his face contorts in confusion then horror touching himself all over as he’s quickly aged up to 67 just for her own amusement then back to 5 and before he can scream she reverts him back and looks at him confused.
“Are you alright?” she asks quickly, reverting her own body back to what it was before, listening to him scream in horror, falling to the ground and crying, rocking himself. Honestly Teruko only reverted him like four times, most of her other victims lasted a bit longer than that. She looks around seeing Aizawa death glaring at her, quirk activated even though she doesn’t have a quirk…so she doesn’t know why he thinks that would work.
“I don’t know what happened!” She cries out in “concern” perfectly playing the confused innocent woman, maybe if Aizawa wasn’t so angry about all his students getting hurt and thought rationally for a moment, he would see Jouno with a slight smirk, Tecchou also has paused and allowed this without interruption despite Mineta's age.
Aizawa shoves Teruko out of the way to look at Mineta, snot dripping down his nose and tears shaking and rocking himself. Aizawa kneels down in front of Mineta confused.
“I-I was a child..then I was-” Mineta bursts out in loud agonizing tears once again. Aizawa, puzzled, barks at his students to back up, all looking with slight worry, despite Mineta's reputation.
“Take him to med bay” Tecchou articulated plainly, Not an ounce of worry on his face. Aizawa frowns as he’s led to the bay by some other government employee where Bakugo, All Might, Tsuyu, and Koda are all laying there, All Might covered in a private curtain room, probably just shriveled out of his hero body. Tsuyu got punctured by a spear in the leg, and Koda got frostbite on the rock climbing course due to hesitating a bit too long.
Aizawa leads the shaking crying boy to lay down next to Koda’s bed, luckily he’s knocked himself out with all this crying, yet Aizawa still can’t tell what caused this outburst. He was talking about his age changing? There’s something seriously wrong with this place. Aizawa frowns, walking into All Might room, the man in his civilian form in a hospital gown, probably due to the small tear and dirt in his uniform.
“All Might, we need to talk” He mutters pacing in front of his bed, The smaller man looks up at him still smiling, yet softer.
“I feel like we should as well,” he sighs, rubbing his temples. “It’s only what? 10:25 yet several students have been seriously injured enough to be sent here despite it only being basic training.”
Aizawa nods in agreement. “It seems a bit harsh,” he murmurs. “Yes at UA we’ve put them through hard stuff but fires being blown at students with no warning, weapons being impaled, that could’ve killed them” he pauses before leaning in quietly. “Mineta’s having a mental breakdown right now.”
All Might sits up with worry, feeling a bit more energetic after his break. “What happened to him?” All Might asks, peeking through the thin fabric to see Mineta laying on one of the hospital beds unconscious.
Aizawa takes a moment of silence, trying to think of how to express his thoughts without sounding crazy. “Well, the female Hunting Dog took him to spar, then suddenly he’s on the floor crying, the woman is confused, and he’s bawling out that he kept…changing ages? I believe he said.” he makes eye contact with All Might who is deep in thought, clearly conflicted.
“I’ve heard things.”
“What?”
All Might's fists clench the blanket around his lower body. “About Yokohama. There’s rumors here about the people…usually only quietly murmured about, are different.”
“Different how?” Aizawa’s eyebrows furrow.
“Too powerful, despite being quirkless they have one of the strongest militaries and people who have lived through breaking through Yokohama's barriers, then escaped come back traumatized, disfigured and rambling about impossible things.”
“Such as?” Impossible things, what could he mean?
“Talking about powers…how they were more powerful than any quirk they’ve ever seen.” He frowns. “There’s also been reports of children born quirkless randomly developing these intense quirks then going missing, just to be seen later in government secret organizations or in Yokohama.”
“So you’re saying…” Aizawa looks at Mineta and thinks about the hunting dogs, insane capable soldiers, with lower failure rates than some pro heroes. “That woman used something on Mineta? Genuinely changing his age?” Aizawa's eyes open in pure horror.
“Don’t jump to conclusions…Yet someone I truly trusted, a hero from long ago, told me about this before he died.” All Might looks up misty eyed. “That’s the true reason I came here, to figure out what’s truly going on here, before others get hurt from Yokohama's evil.”
Aizawa frowns, nodding. “We’ll figure it out All Might, we’ll find proof of whatever’s going on here.” He awkwardly pauses looking at his feet. “Apologies about your friend.”
All Might nods. “Thanks.”
They sit in silence for a while, maybe ten minutes, maybe an hour, before Aizawa hears muffled gunfire and frowns immediately bolting towards the sound, prepared to defend his students from whatever horror has gotten in here. He slams the door open seeing the white haired man with red streaks cover his ears in annoyance, fists clenching.
The students are holding these pistols with headphones laughing trying to shoot different targets, oddly enough Iida has really good precision, though he shouldn't be surprised, that kid excels at these sorts of activities even at UA.
“What’s going on?” He asks, confused looking at the time 11:15…damn it's been a while. Izuku steps up smiling softly holding the gun.
“Oh! Well the Female Hunting dog was teaching us how to aim and properly use guns safely!” He points to Teruko who is helping Uraraka aim properly, guiding her hands. Jouno’s more towards the back with Tecchou the two men quietly talking.
“Hm…” He eyes her suspiciously looking for any signs of a quirk, she looks perfectly human, no visible quirk identifiers. He looks back towards the other men, Jouno seems to always have his eyes closed, could his eyes possibly be abnormal? Hiding his quirk by keeping them shut? Tecchou also looks completely human. If All Might's theory is true then how could these allegedly powerful people have not even a single clue about their quirk.
“He’s deep in thought.” Tecchou comments quietly to Jouno. “He keeps looking around between us hunting dogs and military officers who are around here. He may be onto something about Teruko's stunt” He whispers, barely audible even to himself.
Jouno scoffs, grinning darkly. “Of course he’s onto us, Did they really think we wouldn’t have cameras in a government operated building? As well as the fact I heard the whole conversation. They think we’re some insane quirk users who have adapted, not the reality of what Teruko’s gift could accomplish.”
“That does make sense. So he’s assessing us for quirks.” Tecchou stares right at Aizawa who’s talking to some pink haired girl who just completely missed her shot.
“That’s what I just said isn’t it” Jouno snarks, clicking his tongue.
“It’s too loud for you?” Tecchou asks, looking at his partner curiously.
“What makes you think that?” Jouno raises a brow.
“All the gunshots even with your earbuds must be hurting your ears, how about you go train? Or go fill out some paperwork” Tecchou rests a firm hand on Jouno's shoulder guiding his body towards the door. Jouno’s entire face contorts to anger and slaps his hand away.
“I’m perfectly fine in this room, and I don't need you infantalizing me.” Jouno states, really trying to hold back the urge to punch Tecchou in his stupid face.
“Oh apologies, that was not my intention.” Tecchou frowns realizing he’s upset his teammate.
“Whatever, don’t let it happen again.” Jouno scoffs, turning his back to Tecchou, immature yes but it does slightly lessen the ringing in his ears.
Luckily without Bakugo or Mineta the shooting range was not too bad, all students no matter how bad of aim didn’t hit each other which was good. Teruko still lectured them for 30 minutes afterwards about needing to practice and them being nowhere near as good as they should be for future pro heroes. They spend about 20 minutes in drills teaching how to safely disarm a gun and unload it safely, which is information any gunowner should know. Using a quick demo round with both Tecchou and Teruko showing how (typically) you can disarm it, as well as one singular alternative. There’s of course more but it becomes 12:15 which is the scheduled lunch hour for both students and the Hunting Dogs so they are all led to a large cafeteria.
Typically the Hunting Dogs just eat in the shared common space but instead they take the smallest table with Aizawa. The students are split up into 3 main groups with little subsections. Teruko sits by Aizawa since the lovebirds on the other side, no matter how much they bicker, refuse to be apart. She isn’t pleased by it, but has already been briefed about Aizawa’s suspicions and finds them amusing, she could tease him a bit she supposes.
She opens up her takeout bag, she’s a hunting dog she barely has any time for meal planning, let alone actually cooking! She got something from the nice Udon place which is about 3 blocks away from the Detective Agency. She opens her takeout bowl, eagerly eating no shame. Jouno’s face wrinkles in disgust at the slurping and smacking of her lips, but doesn’t comment.
Aizawa decides to start a small conversation, possibly to lead into asking about the possibility of them having quirks, and figuring out what the hell happened to Mineta. He’s a hero who’s seen horrors, you can’t blame him for being suspicious of everyone.
“So what do you have planned for the rest of the day?” he asks, eating a small thermos of fried rice. Tecchou looks up from his meal, cooked broccoli with wasabi? No, Aizawa must be seeing that wrong.
“Quirk accessibility. Hide and Seek, and finally everyone's been graded and will have a personal meeting discussing how they can improve and what they need improvement on.” Tecchou responds, covering his mouth with his hand since he is eating in between words.
“Hide and Seek?” Aizawa asks, confused how that could correlate to Hunting Dog training, they don't seem like the type to use children's games as training exercises.
“Yes, Vice Captain's idea. We’ve utilized it before and it’s proven useful for endurance and stealth skills.” Tecchou’s voice is muffled due to his food now eating some sort of meat cut up small.
The table fills up with quiet chatter between the trio, nothing major from Aizawa, mainly Jouno scolding Tecchou for his food choices, Teruko adding random comments about her day and complaining about people unphased.
For the hour lunch is going on, Aizawa tries to observe these military workers, yet they seem so…normal and quirkless. Mundane lives, talking about drug busts, nothing about going against quirked people, nor about the Port Mafia surprisingly. He supposes he can’t be too disappointed, after all he couldn’t have suspected them to let it up this easy.
Meanwhile Izuku's group is slightly nervous, Uraraka, Jiro and Momo quietly talking, a bit empty without Tsuyu. Iida is muttering about how messed up this place is, eating his perfectly balanced meal. Every food group filled out and portioned.
“So that was tough…? Wasn’t it guys?” Izuku offers awkwardly. Uraraka offers a small smile before responding.
“Yeah, I’m still sore from that obstacle course.” Uraraka laughs softly.
“Isn’t it weird what happened to Mineta though?” Jiro asks, lowering her voice. “I mean I hated the creep, as most of the girls did, but that was insane.”
Momo nods, swallowing a portion of her food. “Yeah no, I mean how does that just happen? Could it be a seizure?” She looks up.
“No.” Todoroki speaks up, frowning. “My brother…he had a seizure once, my father hit him hard on the head, then a week later he started seizing during dinner. The doctor told us it was because of head trauma. That was different, unless that was a different type of seizure usually it’s rare to be able to talk especially as clearly as him, it seemed more like a panic attack if anything.”
Everyone pauses, staring at him with horror and pity.
“I’m so sorry that you had to see that Todoroki.” Izuku puts a hand on his shoulder softly, trying to comfort his friend who had too hard of a life.
“Sorry, I overshared.” Todoroki murmurs looking back down at his food, embarrassed for his accidental trauma dumping on his friends.
“No, No. It’s okay.” Momo smiles at Todoroki, “We love that you’re comfortable to share stuff with us, no matter how sad” everyone else murmurs in agreement smiling at him.
Teruko suddenly with no warning stands on top of the table knocking Jouno and Tecchou’s food to the side clapping loudly as everyone goes quiet. “Lunch is over!” She basically yells, smiling wide and happily. “Now! Much to your enjoyment!!! We’ll be doing quirk evaluations! Yayyyy!”
The students perk up happily talking, excited to show off their quirks to these quirkless military officers, proving after the obstacle course and weaponry failures that they were humbled on. Teruko leads them out head proudly up high, interested in seeing quirk users in action. They end up in a mock stage area and Tecchou frowns softly looking at Teruko confused.
“Oh yeah I had this room redesigned! You guys will showcase your quirks best you can! Then we’re going to rate you at this table- Tecchou, tell Jouno where his seat and nametag is!” She chirps happily, of course having to add some sort of charm into this day, I mean it's basically a paid day off since they already have a babysitter! She eyes Aizawa grinning. “You just go sit in a corner or help them prepare I don’t know!” She laughs sitting on the right side of the table she set up. Usually she’d like to be in the middle but she doesn’t want to have to narrate for Jouno and can leave Tecchou to handle that.
They sit lazily and quietly while waiting for the first kid, there’s a few bullseyes, a little track around the stage and otherwise they can demonstrate on one of the hunting dogs!
“Stop breathing so loud!”
Tecchou’s face starts to go pale from literally not breathing and Jouno huffs smacking him in the stomach which causes Tecchou to gasp in air.
“You two shut up! The children should be coming out soon!" She huffs, annoyed.
A kid with bright yellow hair and a black lightning bolt comes out grinning.
“Name!” She looks at her checklist which is mainly scribbles on the side.
“Um Denki Kamanari” He grins relaxed, his posture chill.
“Mhm, so show us what you can do” She looks up at him grinning.
Denki grins and sparks start flying from his hands suddenly the charge explodes and Teruko nods amused. Holding up her card.
Teruko: 6
Tecchou: 8
Jouno: 4
Denki shrugs, stumbling back towards the back of the stage and Tecchou frowns looking at Jouno’s rating.
“Why so low?” he questions, curious about his partner's thought process.
“I heard his heartbeat flush up, his muscles started trembling badly, he overuses it and it harms his body, how could I give that a higher vote?”
“Ah, that makes sense.”
“You guys are so stupid.”
Kirishima walks out next cutting to the chase and turning on his quirk, his body quickly hardening. Tecchou eyes look interested, and nods.
Teruko: 8
Tecchou: 9
Jouno: 6
By the end of the quirk evaluation Teruko ended up voting Mina the highest with a perfect 10 since she liked the idea of acid, Jouno's highest was a 6 which he gave several students, Tecchou's highest was Kirishima.
The Quirk evaluation was standard, nothing too flashy and no accidents, clearly the students were confident in their abilities, Honestly they got bored at the flashy displays as a few different points. Jouno specifically commented on disliking Izuku's since he could hear his bones cracking, and disliked the thought of him stupidly injuring himself.
Teruko barely even remembers it, Quirks are less cool visually then abilities nothing too special in her opinion yet they are powerful so she understands the flashiness, if the Hunting dogs were more public and justice wasn’t so demanding she’d love to have time to be some public figure like these heroes, she doesn’t understand how they can balance hero work and trying to be celebrities. Justice is always needed so even if she had the option for a flashy life, she’d choose this job all over again.
She grins thinking about the hide and seek plan now. The Hunting Dogs are of course the hunters, the students will high and become the hunted. Every test so far today was scoping them out for this Hide and Seek, Seeing who to worry about with which weapons. To see what skills the students have. As well as to grow their own skills so they’d have even a slim chance against the three Hunting Dogs.
“Alright brats! Time to play hide and seeeeek!” She laughs happily, her eyes glinting with a wild streak. The children start to pile up around her, interested and confused about the sudden childish game, even from Teruko.
“Okay rules for you guys!” She laughs looking over the students eyes narrowing with a wide smile. “You can try to use lethal force against us, or quirks! If we’re close enough, weapons will be scattered against the arena! You can harm each other of course! For resources and such, or ally together!” She hums. “Rules for us…Well we can’t use lethal force of course! No serious injuries, We will have tranquilizers to knock you guys out, that will count as tagging, as well as rubber knives that release ink which will also count as being tagged, avoid the ink or being tranqued for 6 hours and you’ll win!” She laughs. “So you guys understand?”
