Brenda exited the bedroom to find Sharon on the couch with a book. “Rare to see you up before me.” Brenda acknowledged as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
Sharon had always been a night owl but parenthood and her job had necessitated that she get up early so she ended up averaging five hours of sleep per night so that she could accomplish both. Now that she was retired, she often didn’t get out of bed until ten or eleven when Brenda was working, though she made the effort to wake up to spend the days with her on the weekend.
“I’m excited for your long weekend.” Sharon grinned, patting the spot next to her on the couch. “I have planned a bevy of activities.”
Brenda joined her and laid her legs over Sharon’s lap. “Let’s hear it.”
“Firstly, we’ll drive down to Winchester. There’s a little walking mall and a lot of cute shops and an ice cream parlor. Then we drive to our Airbnb on a little farm and in the morning we start the Fauquier wine trail. There are so many wineries, we’ll have to narrow it down to three or four, one more night at the Airbnb. Then we have a nice breakfast somewhere and we return home and relax for the rest of the day.”
“You had me at wine trail.” Brenda grinned. “In all seriousness, that sounds great. When I told you to plan the long weekend, I didn’t know what I was expecting, but I didn’t know it would be so detailed.”
Sharon clapped her hands together. “I’m so glad you’re excited because I’m very excited.”
Brenda leaned forward and cupped Sharon’s cheek to kiss her softly. “As soon as I’m done with my coffee, I’m going to get dressed.”
“No rush. The whole point is spending time together and getting enjoying ourselves.”
