Chapter Text

The first thing Saiki felt was weightlessness.

Weightlessness as well as short bursts of almost pain.

It was bright.

Too bright.

And it was making it hard for Saiki to think.

Not that there was anything to think about.

Everywhere he looked was a large expanse of a field. A beautiful, nostalgic looking field filled with blue flowers.

Forget me nots.

Ironic considering the situation.

The sun was also nice.

Not too hot.

Just warm enough to nap in comfortably without waking up with a nasty burn or rash.

Saiki wracked his brain to remember something, anything, that led him here.

He was walking home from school when he met with...akechi? Mikoto?

No that doesn't make sense.

Maybe he teleported in his sleep again?

But he felt free here.

No voices constantly overlapping in his brain, no fears that he'll accidentally hurt someone just by flicking his wrist or looking in their direction.

Maybe this was for the best.

...

Sometimes when Saiki opens his eyes, he's briefly away from the field and instead in some kind of metal facility before blinking and being right back.

Saiki was smart enough to know that his consciousness and body were in two separate places. And honestly, he much prefers where his mind is.

Sometimes he can smell copper and smoke. And sometimes he can hear the fizz of electricity or feel the burn of whatevers happening to his body.

Before it all returns back to the field.

He's tried exploring but there's nothing to explore. Just an infinite expanse of grass and flowers. The deeper he goes, the flowers seem to change and the grass yellows. Instead of the beautiful blue forget me nots, in their stead were a mixture of black roses and begonias.

Something told Saiki that he shouldn't stray too far from the familiar blue flowers. The others brought up some uneasy feelings that won't help anyone in this situation.

It was awfully boring here, but Saiki didn't mind. Whatever this place was it was definitely messing with his ability to think rationally. If he were fully conscious he would have probably escaped by now. But right now all he wanted to do was stare at the beautiful scenery and nap.

And so he laid down in the impossibly soft grass and rested his head, falling into a peaceful slumber once again.

Notes:

This is my first properly angsty fic!!! I got the idea while listening to 'language of the lost' and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to throw saiki through the ringer
