Chapter Text

The transition from the cool, misty peaks of Luminaris to the sun-drenched plains of Pyrrhos was a journey of a thousand colors. For Namping, every mile traveled was a new page in a sensory encyclopedia he was finally allowed to read.

A year had passed since the ritual at the Whispering Falls. The permanent bond mark on Namping’s neck—the sun-and-jasmine vine—had matured into a deep, shimmering gold that pulsed in sync with Keng’s heartbeat. The Gray Veil was now nothing more than a faint shadow in his memory, a ghost story he told to the children in the palace nurseries to remind them of the beauty of the light.

As the royal carriage crossed the golden threshold of Pyrrhos’ capital, the heat hit them like a physical embrace. This wasn't the suffocating, magical heat of the curse; it was the honest, warmth of a land that loved the sun.

"Look, Keng!" Namping leaned out of the carriage window, his eyes wide with wonder. "The sand—it really does look like spilled gold."

Keng sat beside him, his arm draped comfortably around Namping’s shoulders. He no longer looked like the frostbitten warrior. He was restored, his skin bronze and his scent—cedar and spice—now carried a sweet, floral undertone that belonged solely to Namping.

"I told you," Keng said with a chuckle, pulling Namping back against his chest. "In Pyrrhos, the world doesn't just whisper; it roars. You might find it a bit loud after the quiet of the North."

Namping turned in his arms, pressing a kiss to the pulse point on Keng’s neck. "I’ve had enough quiet for three lifetimes. Give me the roar."

The welcoming feast was a grand affair. King Zee and Queen Nunew had traveled from the North to see their son’s new home, accompanied by Thomas and Kong. They sat at the table with Keng’s family, the air a chaotic, beautiful symphony of scents.

Jimmy and Ohm presided over the wine, Ohm laughing as he showed Nunew the scrolls he had written about the "Prince of Silences."

"He’s hardly silent now," Thomas remarked, watching Namping engage in a debate with the generals about trade routes. Thomas leaned back, his hand resting on Kong’s shoulder. "I used to fear you were taking him away to a different kind of cage, Keng. But I see him now. He’s more himself here than he ever was in Luminaris."

"He was always this man," Keng replied, his gaze never leaving his husband. "He just needed the temperature to be right for him to bloom."

Late that night, after the drums had faded and the fires had burned down to embers, Keng and Namping stood on the balcony of their private chambers. The desert air was cool, but the stone beneath their feet still radiated the day's heat.

Namping leaned back against Keng, closing his eyes. He didn't need to see the world anymore to know it was there. He could hear the distant call of a night bird; he could feel the breeze ruffling his silk robes; he could smell the dry earth and the distant jasmine gardens he had insisted on planting in the palace courtyards.

"Keng?" Namping whispered.

"Mmm?"

"Can you still feel it? The cold?"

Keng tightened his grip, his nose buried in the crook of Namping’s neck, inhaling the intoxicating scent of his mate. "Only as a memory. A reminder of where we’ve been."

Namping turned around, his sapphire eyes reflecting the vast, star-studded sky of the South. He was no longer the 'Statue Prince' or the 'Ghost of the North.' He was Namping, the Sun-Bringer of Pyrrhos.

"I used to think that being saved meant someone coming to take the pain away," Namping said softly, tracing the mark on Keng’s neck with his thumb. "But you didn't just take it away. You stayed in it with me until we turned it into something else. You didn't just save my life, Keng. You gave me a world worth living in."

Keng leaned down, their lips meeting in a kiss that tasted of honey and fire—a kiss that held no traces of winter.

"We saved each other, little star," Keng murmured against his lips. "The sun doesn't shine without a world to warm. And you are my entire world."

Below them, the city of gold slept in peace. The Gray Veil was gone, replaced by a horizon that promised nothing but light. The song of the jasmine and the cedar was finally complete, a melody that would echo through the history of two kingdoms for a thousand years to come.

Notes:

We have finally come to an end. This is my first full-length story after almost 3 or 4 years and I had so much fun writing this. I have several plot ideas and drafts written down and I'm still deciding which one to release first.

One idea is kind of anchored to KengNamping DMD Friendship Reality era and I might go with that one since I have several chapters already prepared. If you've been in the fandom long enough, you might know that their lore is crazy.

Thank you for reading this story and I hope you enjoyed.

Notes:

KengNamping came and dug me out of my fangirl slump after four years since the first ship I followed split up. Safe to say they got me hooked and now I'm writing stories starring them.

Updates will come as I already have the chapters planned. Hope you like it!
