Chapter Text
Dear Ray,
I’m glad you liked the poem. I wrote it for you. If you imagined my voice in your head reading it to you like you said you did, I hope you imagined it soft. I think I would’ve said it in a quiet moment. One of those times we run out of things to say and we just sit in silence together. When there’s no pressure to come up with something new; we can just exist in each other's breath. I think I’d have said it then.
You and the night are quite the pair. Should I be jealous? You know what? Whatever, Ray. You two deserve each other. I’ll be over here with my dear mornings and normal sleep schedule.
In all seriousness though, I’m glad you’re getting time to think, compadre. It sounds like you’re working through a lot. I know letters aren’t ideal, but if you ever want to talk about it I’m here for you. Hell, I’d walk all the way to Maine if you needed me to. That being said, you do have a tendency to think yourself into the ground. Don’t let your brain keep you from that beautiful life of yours. I think working at the autoshop will be nice. Nurturing that connection to your dad has gotta be good for your soul. I know how much you miss him. Plus, mechanics are hot.
As for me, I’ve been writing a lot. Like a lot, I feel so inspired these days. Sioux Falls is so special. We don’t get much snow like this in Georgia, but I think I might love it? I know it goes against everything I’ve said about the cold but I changed my mind dammit. I guess I just never had someone to enjoy the cold with. I don’t know much about being a sibling, but Collie really feels like the brother I never had. He’s been taking me sledding in the afternoons. We like to go right around golden hour. There’s this place in Tuthill Park that has the most perfect view of the sunset. It really takes the pain out of the uphill hike, and then when you ride down you just get to enjoy the purples and oranges as they melt into the horizon. It’s amazing, Ray. I’ve been a lot of places and lived a lot of lives, but none quite like this. I can’t wait to tell you all about it when we get back to school. Not too long now…
Love,
Pete
