The Bat Family

Chapter 14: Awkward Apologies

Summary:

Batman, his sons, and the boys have a talk and it's a bit awkward for both parties. However, throughout the conversation everything comes to a happy standpoint.

Notes:

Okay.... So my personal goal to finish the chapter/story was in progress however, things came up. And here's the list.
- Lack of motivation to finish and writer's block
- Was dealing a few personal matters
- LOST the chapter so had to rethink and rewrite what I lost. I had written it down a physical piece of paper but lost that paper
- still getting easily distracted (sorry!!)
I wanted to finish this on December, but couldn't which was the personal goal I wanted to do. So, I do apologize for the wait. I was finally able to finish both the chapter and story! Again I apologize for the wait, but I hope you all enjoy the final chapter, and I want to say thank you for all the kudos and comments, I'm really glad you all like this sequel and I do have some other stories in the works, and I'm planning on re-writing a few in the future so be on the lookout for those. With that being said, I hope you enjoy final chapter, and I want to wish you a good day/night!

Chapter Text

“We’re here to apologize.”

Hearing those words caught the boys completely off guard. They wanted to speak up, but each of them didn’t know what to say or how to even respond.

“You guys don’t need to act so surprised.” Jason said, a bit annoyed with their stunned silence. All of them still stayed quiet, but Superboy was the one who spoke up first.

“Sorry, it’s just um… we weren’t expecting that.” He was still a bit shocked about what was happening in front of him and the others. Over the last few hours the four of them had been worried about their boyfriend, and trying to convince the bat bros how Robin knew the dangers of being a hero. Now they’re suddenly hearing them apologize.

“We understand that we might have… overreacted.” Tim said calmly, but his brothers, and father could tell that saying “overreacted” is his way of sugarcoating the fact that the four of them would’ve killed the boys and made it look like an accident. Before Tim could continue, Batman was the one to step in and talk.

“What I said before, it was from anger and protection as a father. For that I apologize deeply.”

After saying his apology, his sons said their apologies one by one. Jason and Tim apologies went on and sounded sincere, but when it came to Damian’s turn, he was a bit stiff.

“As the eldest brother I’m a bit more protective, however, our little brother has shown that we’re a bit too protective. With that being said, I do apologize for my behavior earlier.” Despite sounding monotone, the boys could tell that he was sorry, or at least they think he is. After Damian gave his somewhat apology, the next one to go was Tim.

“After talking with our little brother, we saw how upset we were making him with all of this. We just.. really care about him. Do know that we are really sorry.”

After Tim’s apology, it was Jason’s turn, and his brothers and dad could tell he didn’t want to say it, but after receiving an elbow bump from Tim, Jason tried his best. Emphasis on the word tried.

“I know… that you guys tried your best to protect him, and that… we have been a bit…. protective… okay, too protective.” Jason forced out, but to him he made it sound like it was physically hurting him. “But, yeah we’re sorry.”

Tim gave his brother a proud nod, Bruce looked a bit relieved, and Damian looked like he apologized enough for a lifetime.

The room fell into a long weird silence, but the boys were exchanging looks with each other wondering which one of them would be the first one to speak. Wally being the silly brave one decided he was the first one to speak.

“Soo… I’m guessing this is the part where we say ‘apology accepted’?” With his question Kaldur elbowed him a bit hard.

“I’m just checking! With the bat family there’s rules!” Wally said, rubbing his arm.

Superboy stepped up with his voice steady.

“We… um… appreciate it. Really. It wasn’t easy for any of us.”

“Yeah, this whole thing sucked, but thanks for the apologies.” Roy added on.

Damian was about to say something, but Bruce stopped him.

“Dick, come out.” Bruce said with his father's voice sounding soft.

Dick came out from behind the wall, looking down on the floor. He could tell that everyone in the room was a bit annoyed that he wasn’t in bed resting, but knew that nothing could stop him from listening.

“So you heard everything?” Jason asked as he walked up to his little brother.

“Yeah I did, and I appreciate it.” Robin answered, hugging him.

His other brothers joined in on hugging Robin, after a sweet brother moment, Kaldur stepped up towards them.

“We would never endanger him intentionally, we care about him.”

“We know that, I guess it was more about us… losing him.” Tim replied, while looking at his baby brother.

“If something did happen, we might have gone a bit… homicidal.” Jason said jokingly.

“A little?” Roy said skeptically with a raised eyebrow.

“Roy.” Dick warned.

“What?” Roy said, shrugging. “I mean, they looked like they were ready to bury us in Gotham.”

“No one was getting buried,” Bruce said firmly.

“Relatively speaking,” Tim added.

“Hypothetically,” Jason muttered.

“Metaphorically,” Damian finished, absolutely lying.

Robin groaned a little before letting out a small chuckle. Wally walked up to his boyfriend and towards the bat bros and Batman.

“So… apology accepted. But, uh, maybe next time instead of threatening to break our bones, you could just say you’re worried?”

Damian looked offended. “That is what we did.”

“Not in English, demon spawn,” Wally shot back.

Jason snorted. Tim choked on a laugh. Even Bruce’s mouth twitched.

“Alright,” Jason said abruptly, clapping his hands. “Apologies are done. Dick needs to rest.”

Tim gasped. “Yes! He needs to rest!”

Damian immediately stepped between Robin and his Wally, picked up his little brother, and proceeded to carry him back to the infirmary. This however caused his other brothers and boyfriends to try and take Robin in their own hands. Batman was finding this a bit amusing, and even though Robin was a bit annoyed, he smiled. Despite the chaos, despite the bats being… the bats… everything really was okay.

Notes:

After finally getting rid of my bad writers block, I was able to write the first chapter of the sequel to the story. Also I wanted to thank those who liked the first story and from helping get some inspiration to help make the sequel, and I hope you all like it.
