Chapter Text
Kaito blinked at the familiar ceiling. Trying his best to sit up, he sighed when he felt his body was too hot.
Then, he touched his forehead. There was something, probably a cool pack was placed on his forehead. He turned to his side. There was a jug of water and a glass. The water was warmed too when he touched it.
“I thought Ahoko went to the school…”
He whispered to himself. Kaito after that startled when the door was opened and Kudou Shinichi entered his room with a tray in his hands.
“Oh, you woke up.”
“Eh… EH KUDOU! WHAT ARE YOU DOING–”
His coughing cut him off. Kudou quickly on his side, rubbing his back. When his coughing died down, Kudou gave him a glass of water which he gulped slowly as instructed.
“You're as energetic as ever even in this condition, huh?”
“Well, don't you have classes?”
Kudou just hummed. He took the bowl on the tray, opened it and oh, it smelled nice. Kaito just watched how Kudou sat on the bed beside him.
“I do. But, Nakamori-chan told me that you have a fever so here I am.”
Kaito just silence and wondered why Aoko had told the detective. It wasn't like they were dating or anything.
And yes, after the new year there wasn't any progress. They just met up more often than before only. Kaito wanted to cry at the reality.
“Here. Open your mouth.”
Kudou offered a spoon of porridge. He looked serious and Kaito wondered if he didn't realise how… domestic this looked.
“I can feed myself.”
Kaito tried to insist but when Kudou pouted at him, he gave in. He opened his mouth and Kudou fed him.
“This is good. I didn't know you can cook.”
The detective grinned at him with pride.
“Well, I've been living alone in that big mansion since I was 14 years old. Of course I can cook. Can't let Ran cook for me everyday, can I?”
Kudou blew the porridge and fed him again.
.
“Hey, Kudou. Why are you doing this?”
Kudou blinked at him after putting on a new cold pack. Kaito just stared at the detective while lying on his bed. ready to rest after taking the medicine. Then, Kudou turned red.
“Of course. I'm… I’m your boyfriend afterall.”
There was silence. Too much silence.
Kaito instantly sat up.
“WHAT?! SINCE WHEN????”
“As I thought. You don't remember, do you?”
Kaito just gaped, waiting for an explanation. His headache suddenly came back at him and he winced in pain. Kudou made him lie down again.
“Well. It was the first time we met as our real persona. We were talking behind the girls and suddenly you asked me out. And, I said yes.”
“But, why can't I remember?”
Kudou closed his eyes and chuckled.
“Probably because you fainted instantly when I agreed. Might be due to the shock or something.”
Kaito blushed at how uncool he had been at that time. A thought occured to him.
“So… we're dating this whole time? And, Aoko knows about it?”
Kudou nodded and he couldn't believe it. This whole time he had made himself fool using Akako's magic.
“I can't believe this…”
“Is this why you act weird sometimes? Trying to be cool and everything? Because you wanted to make me like you?”
The detective laughed when Kaito nodded. Oh how much Kaito wished he could record the angelic sound.
“You're an idiot. Well, that's what makes you interesting.”
Kaito pouted.
“But it's your fault too. Why didn't you tell me we're a couple or tell me that you… like me…”
He turned his eyes back to the detective. Kudou, however, was blushing hard and sputtered.
“It’s- it's because– it's embarrassing!”
Kudou fidgeted his hands nervously. Seeing that, Kaito sat up while his head was pounding again but he fought back. The magician took Kudou's hands and gripped tight. Indigo eyes stared back at Azure eyes.
“I love you, Kudou.”
Kudou's lips wobbled for a moment and smiled shyly.
“I love you too, Kuroba.”
Kaito leaned nearer to Kudou. Their lips almost touched when he felt his lips suddenly was pressed against something hard.
“Idiot. You have a fever so don't give it to me either.”
Kaito looked at the chocolate on his hand. Kudou quickly stood up.
“Happy valentine…. Kaito.”
And he ran away, leaving Kaito alone in his room with a chocolate in his hands. The magician tasted it after spacing out for who knew how long.
“It's sweet.”
He lied down back, puting his arm on his forehead. Kaito then sighed, feeling his body getting hot again. But, he wasn't sure if the reason was the fever or something else.
“Guess I'll bring him out on a date once I recover from this fever.”
He remembered how the detective had said he loved him too, how he had been blushing hard. Most of all, how he had said Kaito's name with a fond tone.
“I'll make up for all the wasted time. Just wait for me, Shinichi.”
.
“Aoko! Why didn't you tell me we're dating?!”
Aoko laughed hard at him. The magician twitched in annoyance and stabbed the steak on his plate more roughly than normal.
“Because it's funny to see you trying to flirt with Kudou-kun. I mean, you look like an idiot and not to mention all those embarrassing pickup lines.”
Kaito blushed at that and just ate his food aggressively.
