Chapter Text
“That's such a nice movie!” Aoko said excitedly and everyone agreed except Shinichi. Seeing that, Ran grinned at the detective.
“That's because you slept all through the movie.”
“I'm not!”
Shinichi blushed furiously. Kaito then pulled out his phone and showed the picture he had caught earlier.
“Oh you're sleeping alright. And your head on Ran-san's shoulder. Look, weren’t you cute here?”
And everyone laughed at Shinichi. The detective could just groan at them.
“If Hattori was here, he would support me.”
“Sure. But he isn't, is he?”
.
“Then, see you tomorrow,” said Ran to both Ekodas once they had to part ways with them. Aoko grinned widely and said goodbye to her back. Kaito, however, managed to tease Shinichi before went back.
“You better have a good sleep tonight or you might land on Ran-san's shoulder again.”
“Can you stop it!”
Shinichi looked away and Kaito laughed loudly. Watching the magician and the detective made Aoko and Ran giggled together too. Few minutes later, Aoko and Kaito finally walked away.
They both were laughing. Ran watched them and took a glance at Shinichi. More specifically, Shinichi’s expression. He was sad and looking hopeless. Ran turned back to the front.
“So, when are you planning to confess to Kaito-kun?”
She saw how her childhood friend tensed for a moment before relax again.
“I don’t know.”
“And why is that?”
He turned his back and walked. Ran followed him. His face was looking forward and for a moment, his back looked so small for her.
“Because I have no chance of winning against Aoko-san and you know that well.”
Ran wanted to say that he was wrong but instead stayed silent. She asked again, “But you won’t let him go?”
“No. I do love him after all.”
Shinichi’s smile looked too painful. It did not suit someone like him. Someone so strong, kind and arrogant at the same time. Ran after that changed the topic to the case he solved the other day. Shinichi beamed up at that and slowly, his mood became better. Ran grinned inside.
For now, she wouldn’t interfere and would only watch how Kaito’s and Shinichi’s relationship went. After all, it was Kaito’s fault for always flirting with everyone and Shinichi’s fault for being dense. The only thing they needed to do was just talk and boom– a happy ending.
It would be a different story if Kaito did hurt the detetive though.
.
It was during the movie. Ran was watching intently and then suddenly there was a weight on her shoulder. She turned and there was a sleeping Shinichi leaning his head on her shoulder. She couldn’t keep herself from smiling.
‘He probably slept late reading his novel yesterday. Just looked at his eyebags,’ Ran chuckled at her thought.
Then there was a hum.
“He fell asleep, huh?” said Kaito softly who was sitting beside Shinichi on the other side. Ran noticed the magician was staring at Shinichi with somehow… fond eyes. Ran blinked for a moment.
“Yeah. He probably slept late again reading his novel. The problem was how to wake him up later. He sleeps like a rock.”
Kaito chuckled at that and suddenly he apologized to her. Ran was confused for a second. The confusion was gone when Kaito pulled Shinichi’s head away from her shoulder. He landed Shinichi’s head on his shoulder instead.
“Keep it a secret alright?”
Looking at how Kaito grinned widely at her with his index finger on his lips made Ran want to laugh. There was also blush on the magician’s cheek despite the darkness surrounding them.
“Sure.”
They continued watching the movie after that.
