Chapter Text
“Kaito. Hey, Kaito.”
He felt his body being shook and slowly opened his eyes. The sun was bright and he blinked, forming the blurry sight into his mother.
“Mom?”
“Go take a bath now or you don't want to be late, do you?”
10 years old Kaito frowned at his mom and glanced at the sight with a pout. Then, a white shirt with trousers hanging on the knob of the cabinet was all he needed to see before realizing today was his first day in magic school. He gasped and quickly went to take a bath.
Today is the day!!!
He squealed excitedly while brushing his teeth. He put on his clothes by himself, insisted on letting his mom help and said that he was old enough to do it all alone, and ran downstairs. He sniffed the pancake on the table and ate it.
Chikage could only chuckled at her son's attics.
“Let’s go, Kaito.”
Chikage held out her hand and once Kaito finished putting on his shoes, he took his mom's hand. With a grin, he hummed at his mom and they walked out the house together and towards the Ekoda Magic School.
“Where’s Dad?”
“He went earlier today. He doesn't want to be late for the ceremony afterall.”
.
When Kaito watched his father walk onto the stage and take the microphone, he started to vibrate excitedly. Who wasn't proud when they saw their parents walk on stage? Especially as the headmaster of the school? He stopped though when his mom pinched his knee playfully.
“Good morning to all parents and students. I’m the headmaster of the school, Kuroba Toichi and we welcome you to Ekoda Magic School. It's such a pleasure to have all of you here and we really hope all of you can enjoy your time here.”
A few minutes later, everyone was clapping loudly and Kaito's heart swelled with pride again. He wondered if he could be a great mage like his father.
“You will. After all you're both mine and Toichi's son,” was what his mom said whenever he asked her. He smiled brightly and was really grateful for having such powerful and gentle parents.
However, that didn't stop them from threatening him, knowing full well Kaito was going to make chaos no matter where he went.
“You better be at your best attitude or no sweet tonight. Promise me,” Chikage glared at the child in front of him and Kaito only nodded with a grin. She glared harder and Kaito flinched.
“I got it.”
“Got what,” she asked with her eyebrow raised.
“I promise that I'll be at my best attitude… for today at least.”
Chikage heard the last part but decided to ignore them. Well as long as the kid didn't do anything for the first day, Chikage hoped everything would be fine.
“So see you—”
A cry cut her off and before she knew it, her son had run off. She shook her head and followed her son.
.
“Don't want to! If Dad isn't there, Aoko doesn't want to be there either!”
Ginzo could feel himself panicking when his daughter, Nakamori Aoko started to pull his sleeves while crying. He looked around and saw how everyone was staring at them. He turned his eyes back to his daughter.
“But don't you want to be a mage like your mom?”
“But I want to be there with you too!!!”
Ginzo sighed and before he could try to calm Aoko, another voice called out at them.
“Hey, my name is Kuroba Kaito. You look cute. What's yours?”
A boy smiled cheerily at Aoko and Ginzo's mind halted for a second. Kuroba? Wasn't that the name of the school headmaster?
He watched how Aoko was surprised at first before sniffing a little. She looked up at Ginzo and Ginzo just nodded and smiled. Aoko looked at the boy again and answered.
“Nakamori… Aoko.”
“Aoko-chan then. What's the class you're in?”
“1-B”
Ginzo watched how the boy brightened at his daughter's answer and said he was the same. The two kids continued to converse and Ginzo felt relieved when Aoko started to smile again.
Then, someone was beside him. She was a beautiful woman and he knew without a word that the woman was Kaito's mother. The wife of one of the powerful mages in the country.
“Then, we'll be going,” Kaito said while holding his daughter's hand. Ginzo just smiled and waved at them.
“Yeah. Take care and make sure to keep your promise,” the woman said while waving to the two kids too.
“Your son is such a good kid.” Ginzo told her once both kids were out of the parents’ sights.
A groaned, “Please you don't know him.”
Ginzo could only laugh.
.
“Hi everyone. I'm Sato Miwako and I'm going to be your homeroom teacher. Since it's your first day, let's start with basic knowledge of magic. Which are mana and elemental—”
Kaito tried to listen properly but to no avail, he eventually lost his focus because he just wanted to do magic as soon as possible. He was sitting beside Aoko now and wondering what kind of elemental he had. Afterall, his father had air elemental while his mother… had none.
His mother once told him that she had been born in fighter village, thus the low mana and couldn't produce any spell and elemental. However, she was glad that Kaito had a high amount of mana to allow him to enter the magic school…. Too high though when they were having entry testing. But oh, hadn’t she said something about how grandmother had fire elemental?
Having fire elementals are cool too hehehee
His focus returned when Miwako-sensei finally talked about elementals.
“Most elementals pass down from the family. If your family has air elementals, there are high chances for you to have air elementals too. And, we have four elements, which are fire, water, air and earth. Each elemental has their own special spells. And, you can only make the spells that involve your elementals. For example if you're a water elemental mage, you can't do any fireballs spells or quicksand spells.
However, it's a special occasion if you have two elements. You can combine both elements to make a more powerful spell. Now, let's see what kind of elementals all of you have.”
And hearing that, Kaito vibrated in excitement. He wondered what kind of elementals he had. He really hoped his was like his father. He wanted to fly around in the sky and maybe controlled the air to move faster like her mother too.
He turned to his friend and asked, “Hey, Aoko-chan. What kind of element do you want?”
Aoko thought for a moment before smiling sadly.
“I want water. My mom had water elementals before and I love how the spells were always beautiful.”
“Had? Don't tell me your mom…”
Aoko nodded and Kaito apologized to her. She then shook her head, saying she was fine.
“What about you?”
“Air elemental! My father is an air elemental mage and I really want to be like him,” Kaito said with a grin. Aoko seemed like she wanted to say something but suddenly, the teacher called out Kaito's name.
Kaito quickly stood up, and walked to the front of the classroom with nervousness in his gut. Once arrived, he looked up and felt more nervous when Miwako-sensei stared at him like she was staring at his soul. Afterall, she had known Kaito since he was a baby.
Thus, Kaito wouldn't get away if he made any trouble.
He gulped and slowly put his hand on the magic ball. He watched how the magic ball suddenly glowed and seconds after, there was fire swirling in it like a tornado but with fire. Kaito’s eyes shone brightly.
“Oh, amazing! Now, that's rare. As expected from Kuroba Toichi's son.”
Kaito startled when Miwako-sensei suddenly rubbed his head. He pouted at her when she laughed.
“You have two elements, air and fire. They suit you, Kaito.”
Miwako-sensei said softer than usual. Kaito beamed at that and hummed. Kaito walked back to his seat while trying to ignore the murmur of his classmates when the teacher said that he was the son of the headmaster of the school.
Aoko looked at him with excitement once he was seated beside her.
“You have two elementals! That's amazing Kaito. And Aoko didn't realize until now but you're the headmaster's son, aren't you? The son of one of the great air mage right now! Aoko bet you're going to be an amazing mage like your father, Kaito.”
Kaito listened to his new friend's rumbling about his father with a smile. He loved whenever people talk about his father. Really, his father was so famous and everyone was really looking up at him.
Fire and air, huh? I wonder if I can be like my father.
