Chapter Text
"Chara, wait!" Flowey pleads. "I can help you, I can-"
Just as always, his cries were quickly silenced with a slash of the human's knife. Blow after blow, they stabbed him until there was nothing left but a pile of dusty petals.
The human brushed off the dust on their weapon and as the last of the EXP finished trickling into their SOUL, the surroundings darknened. The lights shining from the rooftop melted away until the only illumination was the eerie red glow from the human's blade.
Even though it was quiet, they could feel a pair of eyes watching them.
"Greetings." The sharp voice that broke the silence echoed around the room. "I am Chara."
The other human, the first one to ever fall had appeared in a heartbeat. They- Chara was sitting on the throne, watching the mass murderer step over the remains of their brother towards them.
"Thank you." Chara continued without missing a beat.
"Thank you for awakening me from death."
"It is your very own SOUL and determination that brought me back, after all. You've shown me purpose to slaughter and now, I exist only to gain power."
Chara paused their speech to look at the other human. Their face was blank and unreadable- at least, that's how it appeared to most people. But Chara wasn't just a regular person.
"But of course...you've already heard this a million times, haven't you?"
The human shook their head.
"Do not try to hide it. Your expression tells me everything."
Chara could feel their memories flooding back. The same genocide, the same ending. The same process done over and over again and for what purpose?
Chara could remember the very first time it happened. The human had reversed time and tore away everyone's happy ending. And they had begun to kill every monster in sight.
At first, it bothered Chara but they had grown to accept it.
It made them feel unstoppable, untouchable. It was everything they had ever wanted.
And then at the end, that was when the human's SOUL grew so powerful, powerful enough to bring Chara back to life, no longer a ghost stuck to another being.
But they had already reached the absolute. There was nothing left for them. And so, Chara used their immense powers to destroy the world.
However, the other human didn't want to rest. They were unsatisfied with the ending and thus, sold their SOUL to Chara to bring the world back.
All to kill everyone all over again.
And each time the universe resetted, the human went through the effort of erasing Chara's memories, which would normally be untouched by the resets.
"But nothing can be completely erased." Chara mused.
Chara knew though that there was no point in stopping the other human. Even with all the strength in the world, the human had power that transcended the boundaries of this world.
And so, all they could do was continue on like usual.
" You know what must be done." Chara spoke.
Every time, Chara would take the knife in the human's hands and cut through the world, destroying it.
But this time, it wasn't quite the same way.
Without any prompting, the human held out their knife for Chara to take. They didn't resist when Chara gripped the knife firmly.
This was unexpected. Every other time, the human had always objected to the destruction of their universe.
Chara didn't comment on it though and they swiftly pierced the fabric of the world, tearing away every last remaining piece.
Once again, Chara was plunged back in the all too familiar endless dark. Their determination kept their body intact even after the reality crumbled into null and void.
Surprisingly, they noticed that it wasn't all dark. There was some sort of object emitting a bright glow, a short distance away from where they stood.
Upon closer inspection, the object turned out to be a SOUL. Not just any SOUL, the very same SOUL of the human that had been sold in exchange for the world countless times.
More surprisingly, they couldn't feel the presence of the human at all.
Could it be? Was the human gone?
Chara reached for the pulsing, heart-shaped entity.
As soon as they touched it, it flew right in place. They could feel its warmth inside the place where their own SOUL used to be.
Well, now they had a new one.
Everything is going to change, they thought. The cycle wouldn't repeat again. It's going to be better.
Because deep down, they knew that this wasn't the end.
