Chapter Text
— Scully—
1 week later, back at the office
She sat waiting for her partner in the basement. Mulder had to pick up some final intel on their previous case, so Scully just decided she would eat her low fat yoghurt in peace.
She had nearly finished it, when she heard the footsteps approach from behind her. The door slammed open, and in walked her partner. He smiled as he saw he. She noticed the file he had in his hand.
“Enjoying your yoghurt Scully?” He asked.
She nodded happily.
“I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news.” Mulder told her. He didn’t look happy about it.
Scully put the empty cup side and gave him her full attention. “Go ahead.” She told him.
“I’ve made some inquiries, and the prototype is gone.”
This confused Scully mightily. “How is that possible?” She asked him. “We watched it being dragged out of the water?”
Mulder nodded. “Apparently there is no record of this.” He told her.
“We wrote the file.”
Mulder nodded at her. “Yes. But apart from our file, it’s nowhere to be seen. The moving company doesn’t exist, no agency took ownership of it the moment it left Devil’s Lake.”
“It’s missing?” Scully asked him.
Mulder nodded. “Whoever was contacting Woods to buy the prototype, probably swooped in. My money is on this CGB, or Busch.”
Scully sat in silence for a while. When Mulder went on a conspiracy tangent, she usually tried to restrain him, but this time he seemed to have been bang on the money. She looked at her partner. She sighed. It was never easy for them.
“So we caught a serial killer, who murdered 4 scientists and 1 journalist.” Scully summed up. Mulder nodded.
“We lost a really valuable prototype, and it’s possible a Belgian cryptid is still roaming North Dakota?”
“That’s about the gist of it yes.” Mulder said, nodding unhappily.
“Well at least we have something to be grateful for.” Scully told her partner.
“What’s that?” He asked.
“Nobody is bothering us for losing a prototype because it’s being covered up.”
Mulder laughed at her quip, and put the file back in one of the cabinets along the wall.
